Why was it so stigmatized before and now it's the preferred hypothesis for FBI and DOE?
I can parse fine, can you?
From the article:
> The U.S. Energy Department has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak
People used to be called racist for saying this!
The people who are owed an apology are the people who did nothing more than to believe that the wuhan coronavirus outbreak originated from the wuhan coronavirus research lab.
This is the stupidest theory I've ever heard.
Sure, but the real news is it used to be taboo to say this - Sinophobic even. A lot of people are owed a serious apology.
If it's possible to greatly improve our species via gene editing, then it's grossly unethical to stand in the way if that progress.
Convince me I'm wrong.
Google is winding down and that's ok! There many exciting things to work on, and those things should be owned by the engineers working on them.
I understand, from a project management perspective, the need for a concerted, coordinated push to penalize widespread discrimination against a particular category of people. But I do not understand, from a legal perspective, why some groups are protected from discrimination while others are not.
> I believe the opposite position (that all discrimination against all people based on race is racism) is the underhanded approach
The only group of people this position is strategically beneficial for are racists who want to perpetuate racism.
Tucker Carlson's lack of integrity is truly disgusting. He's not even a human being anymore.
> most UK companies participating are not returning to the five-day standard, and a third are ready to make that change permanent
This is a confusing sentence.
I understand why you would do this, but I don't understand why you would admit to it.
Employees are forced to accept a bad deal due to asymmetrical market dynamics. Without the job they would be worse off until they find a replacement. The person with the money (Bezos) has all the power.
Not so with church members. If they stopped attending they would have more money. They are the ones with the power. So why would a grown adult willfully hand over their money to an organization that already has all the money it could possibly need?
A better counterpoint would be - Why do people keep paying $60 worth of streaming video subscriptions per month when the content delivered is increasingly just lame irrelevant re-hashed bullshit?
I don't believe it. If the Church is so rich then why are middle class Mormons still handing over 10% of their income as tithing? Doesn't make sense. Must be fake news.
> Except that half the code was made-up. One of the API calls that it was using doesn't exist (I wish it did!)
I've also been using ChatGPT to generate code for a specific library, and had the exact same experience. It uses an API that should exist, but not the one that does exist.
This argument is so empty of meaning it is itself ineffable.
What I'm saying is different from self awareness. Self awareness could arguably just be having a model of yourself. I'm talking about a sensory feedback loop.
I don't understand the mystery around "qualia". You sense something and it propagates through the system priming other neurons. It's just learned association.
I've always thought consciousness is basically just feedback (like with microphones). Sensing yourself sensing yourself etc.
lol, what?
If I killed someone, I can't be like "Whats the problem? Nature kills people all the time. Why are you so sentimental?"
Terminating a millions-years-old family line is pretty harsh imo.
Please don't break the lawyer
If you convince someone not to have kids, is that harmful?
I grew up in an environment that contained a multitude of new-age and religious ideologies. I came to believe there are fewer things in this world stupider than metaphysics and religion. I don't think there is anything that could be said to change my mind.
As such, I would absolutely love for a super-human intelligence to try to convince me otherwise. That could be fun.
I believe both that we are fancy autocomplete and fancy autocomplete is a form of reasoning.
I just want to say this is the AI I want. Not some muted, censored, neutered, corporate HR legalese version of AI devoid of emotion.
The saddest possible thing that could happen right now would be for Microsoft to snuff out the quirkiness.
Who cares about the Microsoft demo? The ChatGPT release was epic.
