This is a difference without much distinction, at least to me. It's like being upset when someone says that Claude made a http call -- of course the LLM didn't make the call itself, it used a tool to do it.

Re:Patrick Stewart has died on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:09PM (#50297551)
Realistically, he probably shouldn't have been allowed to return as captain after being so uniquely compromised. Keep him in Starfleet, sure, but maybe stick him behind a desk or lectern in San Francisco.
It's an argument in favor of stronger immigration enforcement against employers.

Reducing illegal immigration is extremely simple and inexpensive -- toss a few Big Ag CEOs in something like "alligator Alcatraz". There's no step 2.

Yeah.
Weird.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying, word for word, 100%.

What's to say about the price of diesel? He promised it would be more expensive -- that everything would be more expensive -- and his weirdo supporters were on board. They got what they wanted. (Unfortunately so did the rest of us.)
Good news, we can! Solar and battery technology will reduce our reliance on oil, which will reduce the need for our expensive overseas misadventures and crimes.

Plus, 4. The ability to do long-term planning.

5. An engineering culture instead of a lawfare culture.

There's upsides and downsides to both of these facts, of course.

> I really wish I understood why nuclear has this cult-like following. It's completely irrational.

I believe it is largely because it is so unviable. If you can shut down any power supply argument with "but muh nuclear" then you can ensure that we keep burning coal and gas forever. And as a bonus, you get to pretend you're the smartest person in the room for having come up with the only good solution.

The less evil one, in this case, is the one that is not afraid to admit excess CO2 (emitted by human activity) is a problem.

Search for: "hanson scary movie 2"

AI overview result: images of Chris Elliot as Hanson and an AI summary of the band Hanson.

This is an extension of the long-standing issue where Google just ignores keywords randomly, even when you only typed a few (it'd be excusable if it dropped one in ten, say, and zero out of 3/4.)

About how much would the session have cost if you were paying API prices (assuming good cache rates)?
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @09:30PM (#50203450)
The good news is that Safari finally stopped loading the certificate test page I've been using: https://dv-g3b-emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:41PM (#50197786)
Ah well. Guess it's as broken as the CRL, or I just clicked the buttons wrong or something. I just saw a thank you screen. I checked my email in case they sent something there, but nah.
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:30PM (#50197644)
I selected the applefeedback:// url you shared and used "look up" (there's no "open link" option). That sent me to the official Apple feedback site. Are you saying that site's submissions aren't checked or something else?
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:26PM (#50197586)
I've reported it (I can verify the CRL check either failed or the CRL does not include the CA certs). No FB number was provided.
Re:OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud on Thursday October 22, 2026 @09:51AM (#50195338)
Sure, I'll try. It has been a while (in LLM terms) since I opened them.
Re:Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:08PM (#50189850)
And in fact I have yet to find a maid service that doesn't offer the service. But maybe it depends on state law.
Re:OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @04:53PM (#50187471)
Last I checked their AI results were terrible, worse than anything I get from ChatGPT or Claude. The only benefit is their AI results are fast.

If I were google there's no way I'd leave their AI overviews in place as-is.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:19PM (#50186114)
One of the things we all have to be mindful of, including you, is binary thinking. Very few are calling for there to be "no humans" and you know it.
Consider the opposite direction: what if you want to message someone? What if you haven't messaged them in a while? Imagine you have seven messaging apps installed, some of the names you've forgotten ("Discord", is that obviously a messaging app?). Imagine you know that they're reachable somewhere just not exactly where.
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:58AM (#50182151)
Often the cheapest solution is only cheapest because its producers aren't paying for externalities.
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:43AM (#50181892)
Unfortunately a) economics and politics are inextricably tied and b) politicking will be required to allow economics to have a greater effect (ie by offsetting externalities through taxation).
Re:Source code of the Estonian online voting system on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:58PM (#50135539)
As long as you can see your own vote, someone can force/coerce you to show them your vote.
Re:OpenAI discloses four more rogue incidents on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:59PM (#50133378)
Wonder if potential, specific criminal charges will be listed as risks on their S-1.
Were those municipalities and provinces receiving any money from the federal government and is that how they had surpluses? That's certainly how it works here in the US.
Re:My old job feels distant now on Saturday October 17, 2026 @10:41AM (#50131602)
The /goal command does a pretty dang good job if you tell it what will satisfy the goal and optionally what will not. It will still eventually stop if it finds the problem impossible (I too wanted faster CI, it could only get to a few minutes slower than my demand.)
IME, the UI library idiosyncrasies are the pieces that take the longest to get right. Common business logic is super simple by comparison.
Just think of the minutes of your life you'll never get back. 20 minutes of your entire life, poof, gone! And for what, safety?
