News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

dozerly

Yes. It’s pretty trivial to pivot to, for these non-training/inference roles it’s just building systems where agents are the core implementation detail.

I always assumed it was the down arrow affecting it, but I have always giggled at the fact that people with sharp eyes have to endure the bad posts while others do not
Re:GitHub Incident with Actions, Pages, and Webhooks on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:18PM (#50308889)
A completely different, non GH controlled status page had to be made to accurately report status for them.
This is the harness’s job. Incentives are not aligned for inference providers to own the harnesses.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:33PM (#50283419)
I can sit here and think of things, but I am not a multi trillion dollar company. If I could come up with the next big thing that helps people, I would be capitalizing on that skill already not sitting around on HN
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:58PM (#50280007)
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say we want useful innovation
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:57PM (#50279990)
The people who made Apple what it is today are long gone. The planks have been fully replaced
Re:CorridorKey 2.0 on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:27PM (#50252633)
They explicitly call that out and mention if folks want to use it for paid projects, to just reach out. Thats a caveat obviously, but the intentions seem noble
Re:JetBrains Thinkrail on Sunday October 25, 2026 @07:09PM (#50236964)
It seems very likely that they are looking at cratering usage statistics and panicking.
Re:JetBrains Thinkrail on Sunday October 25, 2026 @07:07PM (#50236946)
It’s a shape that gained adoption and so now everyone is jumping into that solution space instead of innovating.

We are due for another innovator that adds a net new, valuable facet to the development experience soon.

Re:Learning to live with Waymos on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:34PM (#50175765)
Yep, I don’t have to worry at all, it’s so refreshing
Re:Learning to live with Waymos on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:47PM (#50175461)
Waymo’s feel so so so much safer when walking and biking around. They actually give you priority.
Well, for each individual, there’s some level of disincentivization to act according to social and moral code. That’s kind of where shame and laws are supposed to come in to regulate. We are in a post-shame world it seems
I sincerely hope we can recover from this moral bankruptcy in some way, it’s going to be pretty dismal if not.
Re:Someone behind the software on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:41PM (#50143362)
A practical problem with the intuition approach is that you have no possible way to measure two people’s intuitions against each other. In smaller organizations that’s fine, but anytime you get larger you can’t weigh the intuition of 50 people against each other
Re:Java sealed classes and exhaustive pattern matching on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:37PM (#50143327)
Sigh, I so very miss writing Scala.

Your entire comment hinges on this assumption and I don’t think it’s sound. Their intention is to make money at any cost.

Re:OpenAI discloses four more rogue incidents on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:18PM (#50132999)
One can only continue to hope and continue to vote for due punishment to come
Re:GLP-1 may slow biological aging on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:15PM (#50132961)
Comparisons like this, while seeming to make sense using “common sense” rarely impart any value or scientific meaning. Maybe it works like that, maybe it doesn’t.

If as a result of less caloric consumption you’re starving your cells of needed nutrients, maybe that’s the one that degrades earlier.

Re:How the Claude Code team does code review on Friday October 16, 2026 @09:32PM (#50126970)
They aren’t claiming that the doing less by itself changes the rate in this sentence. They are saying that the rate changes when you slow down, probably due to having more time to focus, which in my opinion is likely.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Thursday October 15, 2026 @09:57PM (#50112897)
Other demos, like the humanoid robot one, were entirely fake so wouldn’t be surprised.
Re:Show HN: How Random Are You? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @10:45PM (#50081761)
Well clearly there’s a modulo operation in there and nobody knows how they work
Shocking. The people who aim to benefit the most have done something to benefit? I would be surprised if any of the big fossil fuel industries have not been doing this for decades.
Yes except the analogy is better served as trillions of people watching, relaying license plates instantly, with other trillions of people doing pattern matching and math calculations to figure out where each license plate will be tomorrow.
Seems like payment processing would do well to be a public good instead of a for-profit venture to me.
I’d be more than happy to use a secure, fraud-safe payment system that does not give me airline miles if it meant everything was cheaper to begin with. Part of the problem with CC companies is they do many things that are tightly coupled and are positioned well to profit on them.
Re:How California Closed the Montana License Plate Loophole on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:11PM (#49998154)
If a race to the bottom is incentivized then federal oversight needs to maintain some standards… if a states policy consisted of being able to murder someone from another state, we have federal policy to keep that in check. States rights does not mean unchecked states rights.
Re:How California Closed the Montana License Plate Loophole on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:32AM (#49988655)
Idk, I just have zero faith that corporations are not dumping money on the law decision makers for favorable outcomes.
Re:How California Closed the Montana License Plate Loophole on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:00AM (#49988424)
Yes, the fact that states can race to the bottom of requirements to promote themselves as LLC havens is a broken system not an intentional one.
If they destroy things that were servicing public good like jobs, the market they are selling into, etc, it becomes the governments job to care. If you are advocating for zero oversight of corporations by government I don’t think you’ve seen the consequences of the last 40 years of the US. Monopolies only serve the owning class at the expense of the people.
