Re:An architectural comparison of Obsidian Canvas and Heptabase on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:34PM (#50282894)
If Obsidian on the desktop has plugins installed, then opening the same vault with the iOS app becomes absurd performance of "wait a minute", "load another vault". And it takes so long I forget what I wanted Obsidian for. I don’t even know at this point if it loads on iOS at all. Because this "loading" is taking forever. And I am using a few top popular plugins that everyone is using. Obsidian's way of working with plugins on iOS defeat the purpose of using Obsidian. My guess is plugin architecture was decided long before the iOS app was developed. But still, absolutely nothing can be done?
Re:"I'm Embarrassed on Behalf of the Tech Industry" on Monday October 05, 2026 @01:11PM (#49967566)
It's not the tech industry that is at fault, we are perfectly capable of designing and creating humane products and interfaces, experiences. It's the late-stage capitalism that is like an iron mask that makes you see only a money-making field of view and disfigures our faces and crushes our minds in return.
Re:Show HN: Make cursed fonts like Times New Bastard on Friday September 25, 2026 @12:06PM (#49846439)
The difference is that today's tool has a demo website that makes the whole thing self-explanatory. Yours is a repository that speaks "figure it out".

Re:Make your first edit to OpenStreetMap on Sunday September 13, 2026 @02:10AM (#49680549)
The article describes a case that is a perfect candidate to be automated by LM. You don’t have to have real-world knowledge for that.

Would be interesting to see what involves contributing a real thing that’s not found on the net - a fence, footpath, etc. Or contributing a bus stop.

Does the harness apply when you sue Claude model in third party IDE? like Opencode, or third party adds their harness on top, not replacing it?

Re:Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results? on Monday September 07, 2026 @03:02AM (#49594868)
So Fable can act by itself as audio to midi decoder now? No need for specialised models, it just listens like a person and plays it?
Re:I'm a seeing-eye dog for a computer on Monday September 07, 2026 @02:57AM (#49594840)
LM still can not see and understand the desktop app UI on a level that is acceptable for testing. All the advances in coding are from web dev and thanks to the nature of html UIs. Try to develop a desktop app and it’s like working with a legally blind person who can see some part of the screen is they squint in a certain way but surely will miss all minor details.
This is totally absurd because people don’t buy phone based on car integration they have. They buy car integration that works with their phone. And numbers reflect iPhone vs Android market share.
Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Friday September 04, 2026 @10:45AM (#49565432)
Such board already exist as you described, and at that URL
So Down Detector is a kind of quantum observation experiment, observing influences the result.
Re:The asteroid currently hitting front end web development on Thursday September 03, 2026 @07:13PM (#49558428)
She wouldn’t be able to do any of that without you setting it up first. She would not know anything about deepseek, meaning of a folder with index.html file. Would not know even what to ask ChatGPT, “I need a website”? You make it sound like easy task anyone can do, when you provided 99% of otherwise impossible for them to easily obtain key knowledge needed.
Re:The Qantas A380 engine disintegration in 2010 on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @08:54PM (#49544651)
The whole incident was because of 0.2mm offset in a machined part! And the company that made the part ignored the quality compliance process was not fired. I wonder why - did Airbus think it’s their failure not to verify that the subcontractor adhered to procedures?
How robitics may be “scalable”?
I am curious why you list custom renderer as the first requirement? Must a distribution have a custom one?

> We have to think now about how to reduce job losses so that everyone can share in the prosperity that AI creates.

And I thought he is a smart man. This is so last century thinking. We need to prepare that there will definitely be no jobs for everyone and that will be falling all the time, it’s not a one-time event you should “prepare for”. There’s nothing to prepare, we already have funds and productivity to feed and shelter everyone. UBI is not a privilege, previous generations were slaving 9 to 5 all their lives so we can have it. This is it, arrived, and now, enter a few decades of historical period when all of us waiting for government bureaucrats to realise that UBI is a right.

I wonder what about UI review, which model is the best?
Re:I close SSH port 22 (and what I use instead) on Saturday August 15, 2026 @03:57AM (#49308675)
So the best solution according to the article is to use UDP’s feature of not being sent to any port in particular. In ideal hypothetical it should work, but on any public WIFI, and remote networks would not deliver UDP.

UDP was designed as no-guarantee of delivery. Why would you rely on it for this important feature?

Re:OpenAI's Only Ethicist Reportedly Left Last Month on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @06:11PM (#49279310)
Isn’t ethics incompatible with the nature of a commercial enterprise? Now, if OpenAI was a non-profit… as it was intended originally.

Re:Why do we assume everyone should be working? on Monday August 10, 2026 @05:56AM (#49241585)
That’s a misleading generalisation. Yes, it appears like an inflation vector, then if you follow the money it’s not that simple. In a closed utopian town system of 100 people that would cause inflation, in the real world -no.
Re:Why do we assume everyone should be working? on Monday August 10, 2026 @02:09AM (#49239796)
UBI is the inevitable future. We are now living in a time period in history when we wait for government bureaucrats to finally realise that UBI is a right and not a privilege. At this moment more than half of employment can be classified as “bullshit jobs” - inconsequential that would make no difference if they disappeared one day, created to satisfy the requirements of the capitalist economy. We have been productive to feed and shelter everyone for free for a while now, at least 20 years if not more, but the scarcity narrative gets reignited and pushed by politicians who want to distract and blame immigrants or lack of resources for their own incompetence.
Interesting how he works with it, ”do you have access to macOS runner?” , “do you have access to repo?” And finally they will see that the biggest and hardest problem with native development is verification. So the magic word it seems, is “verify pixel by pixel”. But that would limit what you can verify and implement. There should be vision models trained in UI.

Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @11:00AM (#49145282)
I2p makes more sense and easier to do. But t2v is indeed of no use in any serious production, you must have the actor, product or setting communicated to the model visually
Re:How to Exist on Saturday August 01, 2026 @02:46AM (#49131769)
It’s a result of people being less literate. “Existing” is used to describe passing time without meaning. What author should have used is “being”.
Re:I'm 38 and I Can't Support Myself Anymore on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:04PM (#49089177)
More than half of employment is “bullshit jobs” needed only for capitalism. There’s artificial scarcity but artificial scarcity in minds of people is much worse problem.
