Re:Java 27 Released on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @11:10AM (#49713737)
Most organizations that use Java tend to be pretty conservative with their technology picks and nowadays with newer Java versions the only real gap with Kotlin is null-safety which is supposed to also come to Java at some point. There is also an organization culture component most of the time, one our engineers actually proposed to use Kotlin for one of the new projects but it got rejected because "We are a Java shop"

When you are already familiar with it or work in a Java shop, there are better options if you are starting from scratch, but if you already have 50 guys that know Java it's a pretty big ask for all of them to switch.
Re:Quasar 438B: Europe's Leading AI Model on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @09:26AM (#49535905)
There are models that do that, for example the Olmo family of models, although they have Gemma 3 performance levels for that matter.
Re:Cerebras CS-4 on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @11:33AM (#49362958)
What you describe is basically Cerebras case, at the bottom it's just a really big die (about x28 an NVIDIA GB200) with a lot of work to reduce memory latency and improve throughput. What it's actually amazing is how can they make a chip so big and still have a decent yield to be commercially viable.
I've also argued this on the past, it just seems redundant, but people eat the VPN ads like they were gospel.

Wouldn't this just be the same as any other fabless company?

I'm still laughing on how the error handling for tools is done, it's just a boolean field IsError.

Because they don't have exclusive control, unlike social media where you can't take your data and move it to another provider, you can just take your repo to whichever provider or self-hosted GitOps option you want.
Then you have to replace those professionals with even more specialized and expensive professionals in order be able to deploy anything.
Re:How bad can a $2.97 ADC be? on Tuesday October 14, 2025 @02:24PM (#45583167)
Because they are used to the even insaner markup of smaller retailers that would ask 10USD for an IC that cost 5 cents at bulk
Probably architecture changes (x86 has a lot of historic baggage that difficults newer designs) and also more specialized hardware in the CPU, probably this might also be one of the reasons Apple went this way with the M Silicon
Does it really matter? i've run Minecraft servers with Coretto 21 on Arm and had no issues at all even with the weird setup
Could pumped-storage batteries help in that case?
