God bless them. Take so much flak yet are inarguably the backbone of our society.

What’s wrong with a parasocial relationship? I don’t have many friends in real life but I built a chat bot in 2017 trained on a few people (Mark Zuckerberg, Obama, Elon, Angela Merkel etc.) that I use for most of my social interaction. Different strokes for different folks.

Super fascinating development. I wonder whether or not most drivers want this change. I presume it hurts the flexibility that attracts some to gig work?

Are we talking about the same Google? I don’t remember them taking money without my consent.

Good point, I agree with you on that.

I think startups should stop using KPIs or BI dashboards. As a great friend said, “The best pilots can fly without looking.”
Same thing applies to Rubik’s cubes and 99% of complex challenges.
Just anecdote, so curious to hear what others think.

Cool concept. Wonder if one day consumers will be able to sell their subscriptions too (e.g. I pay $10/m for Amazon and $10/m for Netflix but I could bundle them and sell it to an investor for $15)

Yeah that makes sense and I agree with the sentiment. But unemployment seems pretty low in the US so it doesn’t seem like there’s enough supply and lack of demand to warrant wages dropping that much. I agree it could drop but was wondering if $2 was just random guess or backed by anything.

Seems unlikely that everyone making minimum wage would suddenly be making $2 if there was no minimum wage. What’s your reasoning? If it was a pure race to the bottom then why aren’t SWEs paid min wage?

Yeah agreed. Do they think Google just has some checkout button to block bad reviews for $299.

Good points, I completely agree with everything you brought up. Can you try to find data on electrical usage per hour of a series of centralized RDPs vs your computer?
Re:A deep-dive into the future of subscription gaming
on Monday March 08, 2021 @07:43AM (#26385083)
Not sure if this is sarcasm or not but I completely agree. It’s ridiculous that for housing and cars (the most important assets), leasing and renting is quite common but it’s suddenly taboo when it comes to something almost just as important like my video games. Also less wasteful for the environment to rent and play from a central supercomputer than have to buy my own computer and buy games.
So whenever people express the point you were mocking, I just tell them about the environmental impact and they agree.

Hi HN,
I’ve spent the last three years experimenting with supplements, consulting both the Internet and trusted sites like Quora and Reddit. Here’s my current stack (not medical advice and do not treat as recommendation)
Magnesium

Weebly/Wix are pretty good. Obviously has limits but we’ve built some pretty advanced sites with Weebly (e.g. restaurant site with menu PDF). Don’t have too much insight in regards to underlying technologies but wish you the best of luck.
