They may want to make absolutly sure no wifi signal emit from the device. Turning it off in the setup page is definitely not enough.

The wifi chip may emit signal during boot. The device may get accidentally reset in the field. SpaceX may push an update that messes with the settings.

PS/2 keyboard/mouse are interrupt driven which saves power on laptops. While USB ones are polling based which require controllers running all the time.

I believe that's power saving in action. A single operation at idle is slow, the drive needs time to wake from idle.

This is really a bad idea. For people who use anti-censorship tool to protect privacy, this can leak their identity though DNS.

Re:Why is my dryer radioactive? on Thursday May 18, 2023 @04:40PM (#35993753)
I don't think it has negative ion generator. I guess the fan itself can generate ions, that's why aircraft have static dischargers.
Re:Why is my dryer radioactive? on Thursday May 18, 2023 @04:28PM (#35993640)
It's interior. No ventilation. I guess it's ionizing the air and bringing radioactive dust particles to the whole room. The radiation level is still very low so I'm not worried.

My geiger counter activity goes up when air conditioner is working. Never figured out why. This could be a good explanation.
