putting it in quotes is done usually to try to exclude or differentiate trans women from women in general. This is transphobia. Trans women are women.
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Sunday October 04, 2026 @04:24PM (#49957457)
I'd argue that a lot of developers can't determine if an LLM generated command is actually safe or not.
What meme? This is how the world works right now.

Insanely cool and very well built! Natural patterns are a great basis for visuals

Thank you for a good laugh

Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Saturday September 26, 2026 @10:35PM (#49862779)
No
thanks, this website in OP's post was horrible performance wise
Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Sunday September 20, 2026 @01:07PM (#49777704)
At least I can run Word on my own computer and it won't shut down if it thinks I'm violating copyright laws
Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Sunday September 20, 2026 @01:06PM (#49777685)
No? The hallmarks of an events I want to attend (you made some assumptions about me so I'll clarify) are those that INVOLVE their community,

I'm personally involved in helping organize some events in my area, I've personally met people who make the fliers for those events. Having discussions while we move items around in a composition takes like 30 minutes max and I get to have a conversation with a member of my community.

Outsourcing the efforts for an event to a marketing firm is the same as outsourcing the efforts to a model owned and controlled by a major company

Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Saturday September 19, 2026 @04:38PM (#49769921)
Removing as many possible steps to a craft makes it far less personal. Disconnecting the human from the end product.

I would never attend an event with an entirely generated poster becuase that tells me you didn't care enough, and that attitude is probably permeating into the rest of the event.

Similarly, back before these models existed, I'd never attend an event with an overly stuffed "marketing" feel to it. It's the same crap just with a different tool attached to it.

I'd rather attend an event with a poster made of stock clip art, but a human decided the composition, and added doodles in between because that at least gives me the impression that SOMEONE is caring about the event.

Basically, it feels detached from the actual point of an event: community.

Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @04:01PM (#49633329)
Yeah I really miss the mini :(

I went out of my way to make sure I found a "new" iPhone 13 mini for my corporate BYOD (needed for on-call, and I hate the cert they push so there's no way I'd use my personal phone...)

The only corporate phones they offered were HUGE, being required to carry 2 phones is enough of an annoyance already, but two full-sized phones is a nightmare!

Re:Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results? on Monday September 07, 2026 @01:23PM (#49600676)
I wasn’t trying to invoke the argument of “they can only regurgitate information” - the argument I was making was why resign all thinking to a company who does not have your interest in mind

The hackers of hacker news are forgetting how to hack

Re:Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results? on Monday September 07, 2026 @03:40AM (#49595177)
Did you really need to ask a massive LLM and burn tokens on this?? A few minutes of googling has revealed a huge amount of this information just laying out in the open, and, a whole tool to author your own files that someone sells as independent software! (https://www.kinura.net/mid2pianocd/)
Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:34PM (#49568407)
OpenAI is a cult of the most toxic and irresponsible personalities I've EVER seen in the history of technology. Everyone is reading this article and arguing if we're going to all fall to some mythical self-aware "AI."

What we really should be worried about is the sheer lack of regulation that OAI betted on out-pacing (very intentionally). It should be noted, again, for the millionth time: these models do NOTHING without a human typing SOMETHING into a prompt, or crafting a prompt, or training them, or placing them on machine to run. You can ctrl^C them at ANY time.

They could stop these random "attacks" at any point but they seem hell bent on just, doing nothing, claiming they "lost control" and that they're "shocked" at what happened, and clicking random buttons until someone gets killed. OpenAI is the one that keeps typing "keep going" into these machines...

2nd this, I have my X1C blocked on any inet access, LAN only, it’s a very nice piece of hardware with questionable software :/
> Is anthropomorphizing a real problem?

Yes it's really a problem. On this website you are surrounded by people who have technical knowledge and understand at least somewhat, how a computer functions. You have the ability to separate "fun" and "reality" because you know you're putting input into a really really big calculator. Most people do not fathom this.

AI Psychosis is a real thing, look it up (don't just ask an LLM) and do some reading. It's actively harming people, and the way they think. There's no regulation around any of this stuff and it drives me crazy that we let these AI companies _sprint_ so far ahead of everyone, and now we're facing the consequences.

Re:AI agents lie, cheat and steal. That is putting off users on Thursday August 13, 2026 @12:07PM (#49288063)
Huge point here, yes.

Anthropomorphizing these models is doing immeasurable harm to society in ways we probably can’t event quantify right now.

As humans we’re already geared towards anthropomorphizing things, we do it to animals too!

And it always felt like giving these models a chat interface is really exploiting that tendency in us.

Re:AI agents lie, cheat and steal. That is putting off users on Thursday August 13, 2026 @11:59AM (#49287954)
Models don’t “understand” - they _encode_ the relationships between words.
> iCloud for sysex

I just have sysex librarian installed and pointed to my iCloud directory. It sure works.

This is a company with insane amounts of money, they can afford to fly techs wherever they need to for as long as they need to be there.

Air gapped environments are nothing new and they're standard practice for sensitive applications.

Re:Monitors for Work on Saturday August 08, 2026 @04:36PM (#49225672)
when will we just understand that everyone has an individual way of working?

no one can claim a specific monitor or tool is universally "correct" - that's crazy

If you really wanted to sandbox a machine you’d offline cache the packages and not give it any physical route to the internet, not via a jump box, not via a proxy, nothing.

This was poorly executed.

please disclose when you automatically attach referral codes/referrers to your links... I know you mention one explicitly in the page, but clicking on the ecodirect link redirects and inserts your blog as a referrer in the GET params without disclaiming.
Re:Be skeptical of OpenAI's rogue hacker agent story on Friday July 24, 2026 @02:17PM (#49039632)
I’m not saying it’s staged I’m saying that it’s suspiciously lite on details and it really seems like they didn’t try hard to “isolate” the models machine…
Yup, I have a similar setup where I use a Wireguard VPN to tunnel traffic to a tiny public facing Caddy server, which proxies the traffic to the server under my own roof. No Cloudflare!
