dmonitor

Considering practically every smartphone to this day is derivative of the 2007 glass slab hardware design (and software UX), I'd say they were on to something even if it didn't launch with the App Store immediately.

What they offer is an annual subscription on a monthly fee, which is a pretty deceptive offer
Re:Fifteen years later, the Apple Cards origin story on Sunday September 27, 2026 @05:11AM (#49864825)
Even before that, the first iPhone simply not having the brand name of the carrier plastered on the front like every other cell phone felt so nice.

This sounds like some kind of conflict with your privacy settings

Haptic feedback touchpad is vastly superior to the button style. Less force required makes it easier to move your finger while the "button" is pressed. Most higher end laptops use it as the standard touchpad these days. MacOS is also well optimized for touchpads to the point that the traditional mouse experience is somewhat degraded. The smoothness and interactivity of the animations in response to touchpad gestures give a powerful placebo effect for how good the hardware is.

Acceleration is pointless because of the hidden Mini Turbo stat
Re:The Internet I Grew Up with Doesn't Exist Anymore on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @10:57AM (#48747909)
Yeah, whatever pretenses gamergate started with, they got brushed aside pretty quickly in favor of right wing outrage politics. The beginning issue (games journalism being a big club of hollywood wanabes supported by corporate bootlicking) was quickly turned into an angry mob of misogyny and anti-intellectualism.

Around 2015-16 the same stategy was deployed to mainstream politics, which is when I feel internet culture truly died for good. Social media went from a pastime to an engine that fueled real world events.

Yeah, 60fps in Slay the Spire 2 and Risk of Rain is very feasible with just about anything.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a generic "turn a raspi into carplay" firmware or anything of that sort.
Is privacy a concern if the monitoring is locally processed? Apple claims it is.

I say it's amazing how far we've progressed. We could've prevented an entire Seinfeld episode if cameras could warn the user of the presence of nudity in their photos.

They had to have known that free options like Jellyfin were on their tails and pivoted to a revenue model that doesn't rely on competing with FOSS
I imagine a lot of their users (like myself) use Plex because it was the best option 10 years ago and premium was $40 during sales

I personally just have a discord with myself as the only member. With their webhooks API you can even automate the PC side.

It's the unofficial "where's my mouse pointer" macro

At least one DE I've used (MacOS? KDE?) even had it as an official macro that would make the pointer 10x bigger when you shook it

Put it where the capslock key currently goes. Not sure what purpose it serves these days.

most places ban exotic pets that are able to survive in the local climate to prevent invasive species from outcompeting the local feral cat population.
Recursed is really fantastic. There's puzzles in there that took a few days for me to solve

Re:WiiFin – Jellyfin Client for Nintendo Wii on Monday April 13, 2026 @09:24PM (#47760122)
The Wii supports 240p, though, which is very hard to replicate these days.
Just goes to show how much our online behavior and trends are determined by algorithms. The translate button has been there for years, but I guess some engineer flipped the "show international tweets on the timeline" button last week and this is the result.

More important than healing is avoiding damage entirely.

The keys to getting through noita are getting a fast wand to repel enemies and a wand that can dig through stone quickly. There are spell components with negative mana cost and cast time, stack as many of those with a single projectile type spell and you'll make a blaster that can kill enemies safely. The digging wand will let you skip tough sections, tunnel to areas with good loot, let you return to the "sanctuary" zones to edit your wands (if you haven't gotten the "edit anywhere" perk), and such.

Once you have those, you can make more utility wands that let you fly via recoil and whatever else you need.

USB-C devices tend to be mobile. Flexing and disconnecting are much more common.

Tracking down individual values in the sketcher can get annoying too. Just depends on the complexity of your part
Who said anything about multiple NICs? Ethernet port and Wifi modem in AP mode are more than enough
Any PC with a NIC is one VLAN and masquerade rule away from being a router
If the world were to truly come to those stakes, I would just forgo wireless entirely. Running Cat5/6 through the walls is barely an inconvenience, and cell phones are compromised by design, needing to communicate with a cell tower.
I don't think the hardware matters so much as the firmware, which is solved by installing OpenWRT on anything that supports it.

If wireless security is the concern, maybe other people here know better but I don't believe anything convenient will be "secure" in the strongest sense of the word.

The average consumer doesn't want a router full stop. Their ISP hands them an all-in-one modem+router+switch+WAP box and they just accept that the internet lives inside of it.

I have roommates who are engineers and I had to explain to them the difference between Wi-fi access point and LAN when I replaces our wireless router with a router + 3 APs.

You can theoretically use any computer as a router. I've used a Raspberry Pi as a router through a single NIC with VLANs.

I do wonder what the reasoning is behind using safe colors for the Macbooks while giving the iPhone Pro bright orange as one of its three options.
