Re:Life with Down Syndrome on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @11:15AM (#50353890)
Taking advantage of this post to encourage others to look for volunteer opportunities in your area.

Growing up my mom worked closely with children/young adults with disabilities so I was exposed to people with down syndrome from a very young age and I am so incredibly grateful for that. Today I just try my best to keep her work going.

Re:NetBSD adds a new beginner-friendly text editor called atto on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:38AM (#50290801)
Genuine question: Are there a lot of "beginners" hopping on NetBSD?

I feel like most people who even know about NetBSD would be technical enough to at least function at a basic level in something like vi or nano.

Re:Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:33PM (#50251316)
Except the conclusion from this article is that only open-weight Chinese models are the ones to be concerned about.

"Guides you to the "aha!" moment — YOUR moment, not the AI's"

This seems like yet another attempt at encouraging people to continue to utilize AI without relying on it.

> I reject your anecdote and respond with my own!

Can we not just agree that, as with everything else, the type of person who falls into this career also falls on a spectrum.

I don't see it as mutually exclusive that both type of engineers exist and both are equally deserving of their takes on the situation.

> other companies are catching up

Catching up? BYD has already surpassed Tesla and looks like the gap is going to continue to grow.

Re:Mozilla Introduces Firefox Enterprise on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:50PM (#50074778)
I wish this was true. At my org we had to add Chrome to the base image because otherwise we get so many tickets/calls about it even though we provide it via an internal software distribution service that any user has access to. People like what they like and are very resistant to change.
Re:Beauty in DVD Menus on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:50PM (#50009261)
I have fond memories of DVD menus from back in the day. I specifically remember getting my hands on an early release of 300 that was made for reviewers and was blown away by the beauty of the menu especially considering that menu was maybe meant to be seen by a couple thousand people at best.

I wish I still had access to it because looking now it was distinctly different from the actual release DVD menu.

Re:Move in C++ without a std:move on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @10:08AM (#49536489)
I swear I was staring at these two examples for longer than I care to admit wondering if I was just blind or dumb or both.
Re:GPU World on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @09:40AM (#49521901)
This comment is needlessly pedantic. Surely you're able to understand what their implication is.
Re:Nitter project received cease and desist on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @05:04PM (#49440612)
Yeah, this is such a tired lazy response by people and is definitely not true anymore. Spin up a new account on a fresh device on a network I've never been on. Click a random video and scroll. Usually the first 3 or 4 scrolls is porn or someone being killed.

Anyone saying there isn't an insane amount of porn and worse on twitter is either lying or hasn't been on the site since it turned into the cesspool we have today.

Yes, it's almost like that's why there _was_ a rule in place to prevent IPOs like this from being shoved down everyone's throats so quickly without further testing.
Interestingly some zip codes just don't seem to work, but this appears to be an issue on AMC's side as I tested the same zip codes on their "find a theater" page and got the same results.

Very cool idea nonetheless.

Anyone have a link to the source code for this .exe? Would love to see _how_ it's extracting them.
Re:Men Who Stare at Walls on Monday April 27, 2026 @05:44PM (#47927763)
Yes. I swear every day I see a "new" fad targeted at fixing one's attention and every time they're doing so much mental gymnastics to not use the word "meditation."
> my first knee-jerk reaction wouldn't be "this is for pretending to be human"...

"Write commit messages as a human developer would — describe only what the code change does."

Eh, while I agree with you on the permeation of reddit culture on this board, this post is in no way clickbait or political in nature.

In fact, the title of this post is literally copy and pasted from the problem description.

Re:I haven't used a mouse for 14 years on Wednesday March 18, 2026 @02:36PM (#47429617)
I'm in the same boat when it comes to gaming. Primarily use a trackball mouse and have used it for some games like World of Warcraft or Path of Exile but a traditional mouse is still king for any FPS game.

I did learn recently that Zowie released an ergonomic version of their mouse that I plan on checking out though. Unfortunately there's just not a ton of options out there for ergonomic gaming mice.

I immediately think of Terminal Coffee[1].

Been experimenting with charmbracelet's[2] stuff recently to do something similar. Still very early stages so nothing to show off yet but would highly recommend it for anyone else looking into creating a TUI app/business.

Re:ADS-B Exposed on Tuesday October 14, 2025 @12:06PM (#45581708)
Interestingly it seems to line up quite well with population density maps.
Re:ADS-B Exposed on Tuesday October 14, 2025 @10:28AM (#45580470)
Very cool project.

Little bit of trivia regarding the "strange hole near Mexico City"[1] from the README.

This is a 12-kilometer exclusion zone around the highly active Popocatépetl volcano to prevent incidents stemming from volcanic activity.

Re:If you are harassed by lasers on Friday September 26, 2025 @05:48PM (#45391351)
My brand new Netgear router I just bought is so bright it's actually blinding if I catch a glimpse late at night so we might not be out of the woods just yet.
Re:Yet Another TypeSafe and Generic Programming Candidate for C on Tuesday September 09, 2025 @05:46PM (#45189685)
You do understand people's concern here though right?

Because it seems like you're being purposefully obtuse at this point.

Re:iPhone dumbphone on Monday September 08, 2025 @03:40PM (#45172927)
To quote someone else in this thread: People live different lives.
I had pretty much the exact same experience even with a childhood diagnosis and extensive records indicating I only responded well to stimulant-based medication.

The whole process became so burdensome I just gave up and now I self medicate with Nicotine pouches.

Not proud of it and probably not the best alternative but it helps me focus and keeps me out of the stress of the constant back and forth that healthcare providers put you through.

Interesting. They don't appear dead for me (and yes I have showdead set).

Edit: Ah, nevermind I should have looked further back, that's my bad. Apparently the user must ave been un-shadowbanned very recently.

Correction: The right detests regulation on the things they like at that given moment.

If it doesn't affect them directly, or they can't perceive how it will affect them directly, they simply do not care.

Eh, for me eating them alone can make the experience last upwards of 8-12 hours.

Meanwhile using the lemon tek the experience is consistently around 4 hours in length.

For me, this is the ideal trip length. I'm very rarely looking to spend my entire day tripping.

Look up lemontek. Drastically shortens the experience, makes it much more consistent and the lemon juice overwhelms the flavor of the mushrooms.
This reminds me of reading Accelerated C++ back in the day and I think the part that stuck with me most from that book was the idea of "holding the invariant in your head" (I'm paraphrasing a bit).

It made me think a lot more about every line of code I wrote and definitely helped me become a better programmer.
