Re:XPS9350-macOS – macOS patches for Dell XPS 13 9350

Wow. I used to run Ubuntu on the Mini 9 almost a decade ago (bought it with Ubuntu preloaded) and used Xmonad. It wouldn't have crossed my mind that OS X would run at all on one, given that by their nature, the Mini 9 was meant to be the least expensive Dell.

I work on Linux at Dell. I'm the guy in the hammock in that blog post by Barton. It's a Maxwell Quadro for the reasons I stated.

No, it's Maxwell. There's not a mobile Pascal Quadro that'd work at that form factor and thermal capacity at this time. The Kaby Lake Dell XPS 15 (Precision 5520's sibling) uses a Pascal GTX, though.

For the past 17 years, our policy has been to push vendors to open source drivers and push those drivers upstream. Red Hat and Canonical rarely ever take hardware vendor patches otherwise anyway.
When you're shipping brand new hardware, not all distributions necessarily are caught up even if upstream projects (kernel, X, etc) are.

Apple doesn't ship a 5k display. They ship a 5k panel in an all-in-one. Apple doesn't sell any monitors anymore.

We have more than one (dell.com/sputnik), several of which are less than $1800. If you're in Europe, you can also order online most of our Latitudes with Ubuntu too (should be able to by phone in the US too).

Qualcomm Atheros also has dedicated devs for their Linux driver. Broadcomm stopped making wireless cards for the PC market earlier this year.

Oh, and we've moved the XPS 13 Developer Edition to be in the same place as the Windows version. One side affect is that this (well, the internal details of how that's done in our catalog) makes it easier for us to change up the Dev Ed config options. You can use the OS filter drop-down just above the config carousel to narrow down to only the Ubuntu configs.

That's the URL for one of the older versions. In general dell.com/sputnik (same as dell.com/developers) will get you to the current systems.

It's available in the UK. We've moved the XPS 13 Developer Edition to be in the same place as the Windows version. One side affect is that this (well, the internal details of how that's done in our catalog) makes it easier for us to change up the Dev Ed configs. If you go to http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/xps-13-9360-laptop/pd and scroll to the right ("Next" button) you'll see them.
