Re:Is Iceland getting ready to join the EU? on Sunday December 29, 2024 @04:14PM (#42543195)
Finland is Nordic but not Scandinavia. Because Norway is not an EU member, discussing a euro opt out doesn't make sense. Thus, OP is accurate in stating that Scandinavia got a Euro opt-out.

UUIDs are 128 bits, so it's 2^128 rather than 2^32

In Stockholm there is an IKEA in literally the most central and most expensive commercial real estate in Scandinavia -- at Sergelstorg. I'm moving into a new apartment now, so it has been extremely useful to have an IKEA by the central train station!
Depends on the orbit you want, I believe. Is your goal to launch in the direction of Earth's rotation or not? Something like that.

Re:PDF Is the World's Most Important File Format on Friday May 03, 2019 @10:35PM (#19823990)
Have you set up a bot that copy-pastes this every time 'PDF' is a substring of a post's title? Seriously, stop spamming.
Of course; it’s proprietary software.
I think the idea is that Borwegian buys a lot more planes from Boeing.
I can imagine that this probably applies to white-collar and corporate crime (anti-trust, tax evasion, etc.)

Do you mind shedding light on how such click fraud is detected?

I mean, regular expressions have existed in discrete maths for decades right?
It would be interesting to compare the Seattle and Boston prices to see if this is the case.

To me, the most important thing is to a) seperate the person from their product b) be constructive. By that I mean saying "this code you wrote is bad and here's why" instead of "you are a bad coder and you should feel bad".
I second this; ProtonMail is great.

So that's how Stratechery is spelled! I have been listening to Exponent for a while and failed to find the site on Google.

As a speaker of the least spoken language availanle on Google Translate (Icelandic), it never accured to me that language frequency could be tied to book prices; it makes perfect sense. A new book here can cost ~$50, which is why I prefer importing English-language books from the US.

True, but you cannot test a small helicopter inside an aircraft, can you?
Re:Ask HN: What's it like to live in San Francisco? on Thursday May 10, 2018 @06:59AM (#17037800)
As Northern European with ambitions to move to a US tech hub one day, I am interested in knowing a bit of your background. Did you go to school in the US? How did you acquire your visa? Were you sponsored by an employer or did you go through the lottery? etc.
I think most Icelanders, including myself, would start off conversing in English as a matter of courtesy; it would be rude to assume that a person of an ethnic minority isn't Icelandic based on their looks. A lot of times they are indeed Icelanders of ethnic minorities, and you avoid a situation embarrassing for both parties, and perhaps make them feel more welcome in the country they were born in.
Copenhagen never getting really warm?!? Last time I was there, it was like 25°!
