So your entire argument is to be smarmy and condescending and refrain from being specific because you have no actual argument.

They can't keep getting away with it.

You just made some people very excited and happy.
Re:Spooky C++ on Sunday November 01, 2026 @10:10AM (#50326391)
string_view is something like this

    struct string_view { const char * ref; }
Where ref comes from the temporary string constructed via Sanitize("foobarbaz"). When that expression is done, the temporary string is destructed, leaving a dangling pointer.
Again. Very specifically said the stock recovered. That's a positie.
Re:Spooky C++ on Saturday October 31, 2026 @10:06PM (#50322116)
string_view is literally a reference. Copying a string_view just copies the reference.
Re:Spooky C++ on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:08PM (#50321833)
He means the string value of the variable admin_id, not the variable name admin_id.

And the bug comes from the temporary string object created when he passes in the string to Sanitize.

Sanitize("foobarbaz") -> creates temporary string -> string_view from temporary string -> returns string_view of temporary string

temporary string destructed

operations on returned string_view -> oops, use after free.q

Re:Spooky C++ on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:07PM (#50321825)
Oh this is nasty. But the proposed solution of making admin_id a singleton is weird.

The real fix is don't pass in a temporary to the sanitize function.

I'm not reading an article to infer whatever point you're making. Either make your point, or admit that you are just being contrarian because you hate Drumpf
Bruh. You are not being specific. I was being specific.

The stock price recovered. This is a fact. From 20 to 60.

Cannot be argued.

The business will take time to recover. There is no other way. Either it takes time to recover, or it never does. One year is not remotely enough time to know.

So nothing specific. Gotcha.
What could someone say that would convince you the bailout is working as intended.
The bailout was in Aug 25 when INTC was < $25.

It closed today above $60.

That's a stock recovery.

I was very specific. I said stock. That's a recovery.

The bailout was a year ago.

It takes forever to do anything new in hardware.

This is unfortunately a VERY long game.

Well yes, that's why they need the bailout. They are getting smoked.

Big companies are like big ships. Takes a LONG time to turn.

Game is not over yet.

It did the temporary job. INTC is doing the work. Things take time.
Trump admin, to their credit, seem to have somehow figured this out.

They bailed out Intel and the stock recovered.

Might do the same.

Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:27AM (#50303582)
Yeah I get the backdoor issue.

If China is smart, they'll make the entire pipeline available open source.

Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:29PM (#50298307)
> Almost every regulated business in the US cannot run Chinese models

Do you mean Chinese hosted models?

Because if you're avoiding anything from China, you're going to be sitting in a shack on the side of the road.

Exactly. That's why I specify it that way.
It's the judgement of "trivial" where I find issues.

Most calculations are trivial.

You just need to give an instruction something along the lines of "any initial calculation or derived value must be computed through the use of a $LANG program."

Pretty sure the LLMs could implement tax calculations better than the average accountant, were they given the rules.

Re:No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:07PM (#50225294)
They will do that, but then it won't work, so they'll blame the underlings and force them to work harder.
Re:No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector on Saturday October 24, 2026 @04:10PM (#50224675)
I doubt it.

People are, on average, too stupid to make good use of AI to the point where you can actually gain massive productivity.

The pointy haired bosses are going to do their usual approach: force people to work more, claim success, move on.

This is not intended to be derogatory but I notice the he/hims and the transgenders are always cracked af.

I wonder if not having to deal with women as a straight man frees up some part of the brain for more productive uses.

Unfortunately, I love women so I can only be an application programmer.

I worked in corporate america for years.

They WILL fire some people.

But the entire substrate of corporate america depends on empire building.

People need people.

AI will never fully replace people because PEOPLE literally can't replace people.

Therefore, people will always be needed.

Be likeable. Learn to kiss ass. Be competent. Be aggressive.

You will be fine.

I'm not skeptical, but I'm wondering how you can scale this beyond just code.

To me, it makes sense that we start being more rigid in how we specify so we don't ever need to look at the code generated by LLMs.

Ok yeah I guess a nice package for running agents is useful with respect to those things. The Dropbox vs mounted ftp drive analogy.

Of course I’m the type to mount a ftp drive like a moron.

Re:What Is Gridifcation on Thursday October 22, 2026 @04:27PM (#50200554)
They're calling it gridification but most normies call this quantizing.
Why not just use containers...
