Re:The Nixpkgs core team has disbanded on Saturday August 08, 2026 @06:11AM (#49220372)
The amount of monthly contributions has doubled in the last four years alone, from ~7k to ~14k commits per month. Why did I take six years as a reference? Because 2020 is the year nixpkgs really started to pick up traction, and the growth has been almost linear ever since.

Your argument only holds if I were to say "it grew to its current amount of monthly contributions in 2020 and then stayed constant, without growing any further."

Re:The Nixpkgs core team has disbanded on Saturday August 08, 2026 @04:17AM (#49219846)
"we've also functioned without one for ~20 years"

I'm sorry to say that this is a highly ignorant reaction to the situation. Nixpkgs was nowhere the size it is now in terms of contributors and packages, the growth in the past six years was enormous.

38°C in Mannheim today. Might go above 40°C on Saturday, which never happened here before.

You may also want to consider the EUPL, which is OSI approved and despite the name not limited to the EU.

First time I read this interpreation regarding CC-BY-NC model weights, are there any sources to back it?
Re:Hetzner introduces GPU server for AI training on Wednesday September 25, 2024 @08:49AM (#41646845)
Actually rechecking the terms of the GPU server, it states:

> Cancellation period: 30 days to the end of the month

To me that indicates it's not possible to order the server for only a few hours.

Re:Hetzner introduces GPU server for AI training on Wednesday September 25, 2024 @08:48AM (#41646826)
Thanks for the link, seems like a major flaw to combine hourly pricing with a setup fee. :')
Re:Hetzner introduces GPU server for AI training on Wednesday September 25, 2024 @08:41AM (#41646760)
That's incorrect, dedicated Hetzner servers do not have hourly pricing. That only applies to Hetzner Cloud.
Hetzner has an affordable hosted offering of Nextcloud which we use at our company: https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share/

Re:Building a WoW (World of Warcraft) Server in Elixir on Thursday September 05, 2024 @09:12AM (#41456311)
I was active in the WoW server emulation scene somewhere around 2008 to 2012 and fondly look back on that time. Especially the German forum darkwow.de (and later mmonerds.de) is one of the reasons I got into computer science and I'm still in touch with some of the former members. Ten years later I got an MSc degree in computer science and programming is one of my most profound hobbies.

Re:Zed on Linux Is Here on Wednesday July 10, 2024 @05:18PM (#40931571)
NixOS 24.05 contains an older version of zed, as feature updates are generally not backported to stable NixOS releases. Try running the package from nixos-unstable instead.
Isn't CUDA still incompatible with the open kernel driver?

Re:Redis is forked on Tuesday April 16, 2024 @03:02PM (#40055915)
As far as I know, Garnet is not a Redis fork, but a new software that happens to implement the Redis protocol to be compatible with its clients.
+1 to this, migrating our build setup to Nix + nix2container decreased our pipeline duration for incremental changes by a lot, thanks to Nix's granular caching abilities.
Re:The race to replace Redis on Friday March 29, 2024 @05:23AM (#39862070)
I think the point BartjeD wants to make is that due to the nature of MIT licensing, they could run away with your contributions anyway, even without a CLA. Furthermore, Redis didn't have a CLA if I remember correctly and the relicensing is solely based on the what the previously used BSD license allows.
