Just remember that Silicon Valley started when a few tech founders moved from New Jersey to California and created an ecosystem. LA movie industry was the same. Both industries were in New Jersey. Lesson is to create a scene.
Please edit the first sentence out. Keep it civil.
As far as your claim, it's fine to say let the market sort it out, but perhaps consider that pension funds and index funds now represent a market distortion that means anthropic crashing is harder and even if it does would happen after the mandatory purchases by the index funds which is basically a transfer from the public to the insiders at anthropic
$900b contract spending / $30b = 30 years of revenue.
That’s wild. They have committed to absolutely insane growth with no margin for error.
I am working on something similar if you want to collab
I think you’re missing my point. Your argument is valid in how things have been until now: the dreaded off between self hosting and vendor hosting clearly came down in favor of vendors because as you rightly point out they patch known security issues more frequently than most self hosters will. But I argue that has flipped because ai is exploiting unknown vulnerabilities so the larger vendors represent a more attractive target to get access to lots of info rather than self hosting.
With the speed of exploitation hitting right now your analysis will be out of date in a few weeks to months. We are about to have very palpable fear hitting all software vendors. It will be seen as irresponsible to use centralized systems
Then buy hardware and go colo. a dell server off eBay would far exceed what most smbs need.
Let them laugh. Self hosting is much easier with OSS that solves most of the pain that made the cloud transition worth it, and commodity hardware has been cheap and capable for over a decade.
Everyone knows Fort Knox has gold, and where it is, that’s railway, heroku. No one knows where my personal safe is or whether it has anything worth taking. That’s a vps in a colo
You’re technically right, which is the best type of right, but my point is the fragmentation and lower reward will make discovery harder, and the value of searching and cracking less worth the effort.
I had a html game I built for my niece on railway with an open ai API key so she could vibe code changes. No hacker would have looked for it but now I am catching strays because railway was a juicy target. Hyper scalers would be the same. Some random colo not so much.
I actually think it’s the opposite. I think people will move back to their own hardware with OSS deployment like dokku. If everything is more bespoke the attack surface is smaller as is the pay off. Hacking railway got access to lots of api keys, hacking some random vps gets less payoff.
And those that haven’t lived in the south can’t comprehend that it really is the core animating belief behind the entire apparatus of government.
It’s almost like they are trying to go public. Burn those tokens.
Totally this. Or a second screen next to the track pad.
Conveniently left out the most important fact: also has voting control of the world's largest distribution channel and social network. Try again.
Remember when zuck considered a presidential run when he saw how Facebook could sway voters and elections? And then Elon bought twitter for the same reason? We are fortunate for their awkward detestable personalities, otherwise they would have had a shot.
This is an ad hominem attack. It doesn’t matter what the origin of a fact is if it is verifiable and accurate.
Bs. The facts are clear and independently verifiable. The Dutch government saw Jared k laundering money in real time. Trump is literally bribing voters from the stump. We literally invaded Venezuela took their oil and gold and transferred it to an a foreign bank account controlled by the executive rather than congress. There is an actual active market for bribery to buy pardons and get insider information about presidential policy for trading activities. I can go on and on.
Except the team red messages were demonstrably false and related to factual claims. No kings is pure opinion.
That’s a disingenuous presentation of why you added it. Stated clearly, you added it to discredit him, the severity of the contribution that the charges played in harm to him, up to and including contributing to his suicide and to shift the burden from the government and its use of selective coercion to what others are arguing is a victim.
The government was or should have been aware of his mental health history and could have tailored the punishment accordingly so as to not risk pushing him over the edge. The constitution protects against cruel and unusual punishment which includes punishment in excess of the underlying crime, no one would argue his crime warrants death but by proceeding with the threat of excessive punishment on a person know to have suicidal tendencies the government is culpable in the consequences.
To use your example, the government knew he had a history of saying he would drink poison and said “here’s our finest selection of artisanal poisons, we will leave them right here next to your bed”.
The consequences of 6 months house arrest also came with having a felony record which would permanently affect his life making it harder to get a job and a broad set of consequences. And most people wouldn’t think breaking into a broom closet would have resulted in that. I had friends break into the computer lab, use the teachers password to copy games off school computers and get caught: should they face federal felony charges? Definitely not.
Why do you need to add that last sentence?
Thank you for saying this. I am getting tired of current SV speed running culture that actually like the means justify the end. And anyone that says “but ai will save so many lives every day delay is a genocide” spare me, you can’t prove that is true and you don’t get to violate established moral and legal principles in service of some vague and impossible to quantify future utopia.
And to be clear, Aaron should not have been charged under the circumstances.
Or people get sick of it and opt out. There is lots of evidence that trend is accelerating
This will fade. People are tired of it and will start to ostracize this antisocial behavior.
That's a reasonable thought. But a counter perspective is that leaders may have had more integrity and fidelity to ethical behaviors making prosecution less necessary. If that were the case then it would be better to have continual investigation and prosecution possible so there is no shield of power or incentive to hold on to the shield. The check on power is the punishment. The threat of punishment encourages leaders that are unethical to self select avoiding office.
OK. So name some of the infinite ways.
Oh I stand corrected: 65% of people are strongly opposed to data centers and 15% mildly opposed. My bad.

And you are totally right, when futurists predicted flying cars they totally meant a niche obscure technology that nobody uses. Just like people predicting the singularity will transform every aspect of human society now. Interestingly you are accidentally proving my point. The reason that flying cars didn’t take off was perception of safety; just like I said the shift in AI safety and the trustworthiness of the frontier labs is undermining people’s willingness to use AI.
Because we’ve given them limit liability to shield shareholders from the consequences of their actions to encourage risk taking. Corporate governance exists to prevent abuses. We have also separated ownership, governance and execution (shareholders own, the board governs, executives effectuate the boards directives and corporate governance defines the division of rights responsibilities and interactions).
We have all kinds of restrictions on corporate governance and shareholders. Extending it to add checks and balances to the role and responsibilities of a CEO is well within established law. We don’t want a tyrant running the government so we added checks and balances (time to add more asap but that’s another issue) and corporations should have similar checks and balances at this point. I don’t think that needs to apply to startups but definitely should apply to public companies.
