Yup. What would Brian Boitano do?
Auto-play is a tax on the poor with limited data plans.
Pardon my ignorance here, never worked on this kinda program before, but isn't is actually hard on complex databases like Facebook to actually remove data, better just to mark it as unviewable?
Re:Google and Facebook are monopolies. Does it matter? [audio] on Thursday November 15, 2018 @12:19PM (#18461174)
Anytime a social network starts to show threatening growth, Zuck tries to buy them.
Re:FBI Mysteriously Closes New Mexico Observatory on Thursday September 13, 2018 @10:52AM (#17979051)
Wouldn't surprise me if some meth manufactures found the place to be fairly empty and was operating out of one of the buildings. Only to get caught shipping product somewhere and the FBI backtracked it to the observatory.
Re:Insured, but Still Owing $109K for a Heart Attack on Tuesday August 28, 2018 @02:33PM (#17861506)
I just don't see what value private health insurance companies bring to the table anymore. They are not helping get the best coverage for their patients and they squeeze the crap out of the care-givers until its hardly worth their time.
Re:A peek into China’s top ‘bodyguard factories’ on Wednesday July 18, 2018 @10:37AM (#17558790)
As an early IT job, I worked for a famous boxing promotor who would take end of career fighters and charge them a fee to "school them" into bodyguards and find their first quazi-celeb client. Was fascinating to watch their training at the gym.
Re:YouTube Is Removing Some Nootropics Channels on Monday April 30, 2018 @05:50PM (#16962752)
Would be interesting to know if these "silenced" channels have monetization turned on.
Because, to a lot of people, guns are a euphemism for...
Re:Hidden Cameras in AirBnBs on Wednesday November 29, 2017 @10:14AM (#15807347)
Its a two way street. I had friends put an annoyatron in an airbnb they were staying in and knew I was going to stay in a few days later. So its not just the hosts you have to worry about...
Re:A glut has used-car depreciation accelerating on Tuesday August 22, 2017 @06:47PM (#15077020)
You will get a much better idea of what real used cars cost when you look at the manheim numbers. Going to a retail website like Autotrader or cars is going to add a few grand to the price at least. Manheim is what the dealers pay at auction. True used car prices.
Re:Snap sold fewer than 42K Spectacles, down 35% in Q2 on Monday August 14, 2017 @02:14PM (#15011003)
Legit forgot they were still for sale. After all the hype and lack of product availability it simply skipped my mind that they were now readily available to the masses!
I was using the term in a sarcastic tone around the buying of ad space. I'm a weird bird, apologies for the confusion around terminology.
Didn't Blue Apron and Square Space alone underwrite like half the podcasts in the world last year? Wonder what this means for podcast advertising in Q4/Q1-18
Your assumption is the "local businesses" own their property. I don't know many small grocery chains that own their lots. "All boats rise with the tide". High demand for residential means commercial and industrial zoned lots will also increase in value/rent/lease.
Re:Apple Monitoring Blood Glucose on Monday May 22, 2017 @10:57AM (#14394075)
Loyal to Dexcom for the night and day changes their product made to the quality of life for my mother. But very glad to see Apple putting a foot into these waters.
Oh I get both sides of the debate. I also understand why we put regulations in place. Don't get me wrong, our government has fumbled the ball on a few occasions but generally regulations are only put in place once an industry habitually breaks the trust of our citizens.
Had to stop reading after this quote

"ISPs generally do not discriminate against highly-trafficked websites. If they did – holding a figurative gun to the head of those websites by throttling back speed to those websites – consumers would dump those ISPs in favor of others."

I'd believe this true if any of the large cities I have lived in actually had competition between ISPs.

Re:YouTube Stars Feel an Advertising Pinch on Monday May 08, 2017 @03:48PM (#14294925)
The classic "Musicians make money touring, not selling records."

This is why the automotive Youtube "celebs" are launching GTCon a convention for car enthusiasts to get fans to meet them IRL and buy merch!

Wonder how bad it would be if they didn't subsidize rum production so heavily.
Re:Sweden brings back military conscription on Thursday March 02, 2017 @11:18AM (#13775235)
Its more about creating a delaying force against the "zerg rush" towards the capital than actually defeating an attacking superpower. If they can hold off the attacking force for 24-30 hours, they will have done their job.
Wonder how much of this can be tied to the economy getting better and more people buying/driving (used and less safe) cars when they previously couldn't afford to.
Re:New GM Cruise Self-Driving Video Shows More Mastery of SF Roads on Wednesday February 08, 2017 @04:09PM (#13602136)
I wish they released a realtime cut of this. I feel like some of the quirks have been obscured with sped up footage.
Re:FBI will no longer accept FOIA requests by email on Tuesday February 07, 2017 @12:22PM (#13590877)
Who is going to be the hero that converts FBI FOIA emails into automated faxes and offers it as a service?
Re:Welcome, ACLU on Wednesday February 01, 2017 @03:07PM (#13544555)
Dual citizens?
Re:Welcome, ACLU on Tuesday January 31, 2017 @11:58AM (#13532435)
Maybe because the ACLU is about American civil liberties.
Re:New DEA Rule Says CBD Oil Is Really Illegal on Thursday December 15, 2016 @12:11PM (#13186152)
Trump also doesn't drink, so I don't see him being the leader in relaxing vice laws.
Re:FDA Agrees to New Trials for MDMA as Relief for PTSD Patients on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @03:52PM (#13074582)
Huge fan of EMDR. Worked at a PTSD decompression camp in NH for returning military. Had no experience with that type of treatment till I got to the camp. Blew me away. The changes that can happen after only a few weeks of therapy was impressive.
Re:Apple Abandons Development of Wireless Routers on Monday November 21, 2016 @10:06AM (#13005884)
From my point of view, the market is saturated with all these startups offering mesh wifi services that are already "Apple-fied" in terms of simplicity to setup and activate.

Why bother developing in that space when you can just buy whichever startup matures to the largest market share? Throw those engineers somewhere else.

Either way, Samsung will have their 60% post-consumer bag on the market before Apples.
