Not exactly a superhero movie, but The Core (2003) is kinda related
Re:Tax cuts for the wealthy only benefit the rich (2023) on Friday August 07, 2026 @01:20PM (#49213544)
So do %s/trickle-down/supply-side/g , then, if it's the term that's bothering you. Doesn't "debunking" trickle-down economics then, by extension, debunk supply-side economics? I'm not clear on the meaningful difference
Re:Aspartame is not that bad? on Friday April 24, 2026 @10:07AM (#47890515)
Assuming, of course, that one's body _does_ naturally produce insulin. I'm glad it and other artificial sweeteners exist and are as prevalent as they are.
Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine. Edit out swipes.

Comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive.

Re:Free software scares normal people on Thursday October 30, 2025 @03:53PM (#45764529)
To add on to this, there's no standardized way of indicating what needs to be typed out and what needs to be replaced. `foo --bar <replace me>` might be a good example command in a README, but I had to help someone the other day when they ran `foo --bar <test.txt>`, not realizing they should have replaced the < and > as well as just the text.
It's 3 years old, but this video [1] goes over Tesla's electric brake booster (and its lack of vacuum)

Normally yes, but the L1 Lagrange point always would have an unobstructed view of the sun. Granted, L1 is a lot further away than LEO (~3x the distance to the moon), so that makes it harder and more expensive to get to

Why'd you disable right clicking and highlighting?

Edit: If you're not the author of the post, feel free to ignore :)

I typed "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", clicked "Check Everything", I get a brief spinner, and

[plugin:vite:import-analysis] Failed to parse source for import analysis because the content contains invalid JS syntax. If you are using JSX, make sure to name the file with the .jsx or .tsx extension.
or nothing happens

Edit: if I open the editor, type the same text, and then click "Fact Check", I get the same error

"According to a 2022 study from the Environmental Protection Agency, the average weight of a car is 4,094 pounds."[1]

Going from 1 person of 200lb to 4 people totaling 800lb (in a 4,000lb car) increases the damage by less than an additional car (4,800 / 4,200) ^ 4 = 1.71

Not sure why you’re bringing up autopilot— the MCAS system runs even when the autopilot is disabled.

Edit: Also, how does the fault lie with the airlines? Boeing didn’t document the existence of MCAS in the flight manual or training materials.

Sorry, which video? Your [0] doesn't go anywhere :)
I'm not seeing the reasoning behind intermittent fasting in particular as opposed to losing weight in general. Couldn't the title just have equivalently been "losing weight may negate need for [type 2] diabetes drugs"?
Re:In Defense of Linked Lists on Friday November 04, 2022 @07:40PM (#33475679)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're describing an Unrolled Linked List [1]? If so, neat!

Re:uBlock Origin 1.41 on Thursday February 10, 2022 @02:54PM (#30291561)
I actually found this useful the other day when I was shopping online on a bugged website. After I applied a filter, the loading spinner wouldn't go away, even after it had finished loading the filtered results.

I blocked the loading spinner element and the website worked perfectly after that.

Re:Covid-19 is 10 times deadlier for people with Down syndrome on Wednesday December 16, 2020 @05:09PM (#25449458)
I'm not sure anyone here is saying that anyone should be aborted, but rather that people should have the choice to abort if that's what they decide.
Re:AirPods Max on Tuesday December 08, 2020 @12:17PM (#25348246)
I'm not an audio engineer or a musician but I got custom IEMs and they were a great decision for me. My ears don't work with the majority of in-ear style audio devices out there for some reason-- my left ear is fine but everything falls out of my right.

Back when I flew a lot, I could have my IEMs in but not listening to anything and I could barely hear the engines. There was a crying baby behind me and I didn't know until I took them out (while listening to music almost as quietly as my phone would go).

It goes without saying, but they're also incredibly comfortable too.

Re:Google makes breaking change to publishing Sheets as data on Monday November 23, 2020 @05:29PM (#25192712)
Created issue. A short description of the issue:

Private Sheet public CSV export requires authentication when set not to

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. create a private(!) Google Sheet

2. set public CSV export publication

3. access the endpoint without credentials

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? If you see error messages, please provide them.

You should receive a CSV file, you get HTML5 login form.

Please provide any additional information below.

Setting the Sheet to Public with a link fixes the problem, there's an obvious bug with the permissions taken from the Sheet, not the Export.

Re:US Insulin prices 8 times higher than in other nations on Tuesday October 06, 2020 @03:52PM (#24701662)
Yes, in general it's worse across the board. It takes longer to start working and continues working longer, both things you want to avoid in short-acting insulins.
Re:The joys of owning an ‘OG’ email account on Thursday September 03, 2020 @11:22AM (#24364904)
I've had problems with sites accepting my .is email address too, probably due to similar logic.
Re:Secret gyms and the economics of prohibition on Wednesday August 19, 2020 @05:12PM (#24216578)
That's over your entire lifetime, not a few weeks after getting infected. You don't have a 1% chance of dying in a car accident every time you drive.
2FA with SMS protects against password reuse or leaks. It's my understanding that SMS is weak against attacks targeted at particular people while being sufficiently strong for the majority of cases.
Could always add another dongle with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BKYBKGP maybe?
I can only solve the first one. I click submit, get a "Solved" stamp, and it prompts me with the same problem again.
Re:Hacking Together an E-ink Dashboard on Wednesday April 29, 2020 @05:03PM (#23024276)
The Remarkable (an e-reader with a pen) is fairly hackable, but it's overkill for a dashboard.
Re:Doctors Say Shortage of Protective Gear Is Dire on Friday March 20, 2020 @02:18AM (#22635413)
There are also not nearly as many tests being run as there are patients with suspect symptoms. Yes, the number of confirmed COVID-19 patients may be low, but that doesn't mean that the number of people with the disease is low.

According to the CDC[1], you can contact your healthcare provider for the possibility of a test if (and only if) you are in close contact with someone with the disease or if you're in a community where there's ongoing spread. That's still a very limited subset of people who might have the disease.

There's very limited insight into who does or does not have the disease in the US.
