Why would someone want to pay the COBRA premiums when health plans on WA Health Plan finder have much cheaper options?

No word though on how many of these are bots or agents

Your logic missed the part where Japan attacked the US and forced it into this war that costed many American lives. Your logic also missed the part where nobody attacked Russia.

Educate yourself about the decision to drop the two nuclear bombs on Japanese. By that time US had more than 100,000 dead soldiers and another 200,000 wounded. Estimates for further casualties required to conquer the 4 main Japanese islands were for another 250,000 dead and close to a million wounded. The Japanese were gearing up for a fight on the islands. They were rationing their fuel (to the detriment of moving food stuffs within their country) and had thousands of Kamikaze planes and hundreds of thousands of soldiers in the Kyushu island (were coincidentally the Americans were poised to start their main invasion).

Dropping the bombs saved countless of American lives - young men who did not even start their lives yet. It was the right decision for the Americans. Not to mention the numerous appeals to Japanese government to surrender.

Do you have a link about the 36 million developers who joined Github in 2025? I think a lot of these "developers" are AI agents / bots, but I would like to know better. Thanks!
Tell me you never borrowed movies from a library without telling me you never borrowed movies from a library.
I did the physical media & Jellyfin install earlier this year. It was not that hard. From the moment I searched “create bootable Linux usb drive” to streaming my first movie on the flat screen TV from a Jellyfin server running on an Ubuntu box took a whole 90 minutes.

The hardest part was figuring out the folder where to save the media on the Ubuntu and give Jeyyfin read permissions on that folder via some Linux commands. It was not that hard because Jellyfin tips and tricks are all over the internet (Reddit for example.)

Well, when they solve all these unsolved math problems they are not 1 inch deep in math....
And then add MIRV war heads. Defense expense grows exponentially and is not sustainable.
I always wanted a law where, in case Congress declares war, each senator and congressman/woman that voted for war has to send their kids and grandkids (if they are between 18 and 35 years of age) to the front line.

There would be no war pretty soon.

In the case of US protesting the increase in costs of living makes total sense: the goal is Dems to take over Congress and use the congressional powers to do whatever it takes to open the Strait of Hormuz (including making reparation payments to Iran and allowing Iran to toll ships going through the Strait).

Is as simple as that.

Plea bargaining. Green river serial killer admitted to more killings (and cooperated to recover some of his victim’s bodies) in exchange for avoiding the death penalty : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Ridgway#Plea_bargain,_con...
Genuinely curious: what weird quirks have you encountered in Excel? Back 10 years ago when I was using Excel daily I didn’t think anything was weird about it (it was actually my favorite tool)
Awesome. Now do one for TurboTax!

Reminds me of the Amazon joke in the 90s (before they barely avoided bankruptcy): Amazon loses $5 on each sale but makes it up in volume.
LOL at “Chernobyl accident was caused by bad control rods”. This seems to imply other control mechanisms worked, when in fact plant engineers could not even monitor the plant operations. They had malfunctioning Geiger counters. Also - plant engineers had no idea how much water was flowing through the nuclear core cooler. Monitors for the temperature of before mentioned water did not exist even on a whiteboard.
If developer's lawyers were better than Oracle's lawyers and stopped those weasel-words in the contract - that would be poetic justice for Oracle.

The joke is on you: HR never tells you why you weren’t hired.
Thank you for the link: it proves my point. Most of business-only airlines did not survive, the only two that survived had to add economy class.
If this was the case and the cattle class would cause airlines to lose money you would definitely see airlines flying smaller planes just for the first class.

Most likely what happens is that cattle class pays for the plane to fly, and airlines make more from first class.

Should have been checked by both. Lockheed should have checked because of contractual obligations; NASA should have checked because of minimal engineering practices (bugs happen in all your dependencies).
Re:The darker side of being a doctor on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:47AM (#49816128)
I think the system will burn down before AMA would allow any US States to import a massive amount of doctors from anywhere in the world. Which maybe is better for the rest of the world - they get to keep their doctors.
Re:South Africa is at risk of becoming a mafia state on Friday September 18, 2026 @11:13AM (#49755553)
I think Russia is more of a dictatorship than a feudal state.

What you describe as feudalism- a czar/emperor/king/absolute ruler at the top with some people under him to carry on orders - applies to any dictatorship.

Feudalism includes (among other things) complete lack of population movement: serfs were not allowed to leave their villages. In Russia today people can (still) leave the country.

Re:We know what a world without work looks like on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @02:16PM (#49730858)
Well, the article seems mostly theoretical. One of the premises of the article is that the capital owners (who thus own the economy, and the political system, and the legal system and the law enforcement) will give the rest of the people enough to assuage economic anxieties.

We know this premise is pure fantasy. For example Michigan which produces so much food it cannot even eat all of would not provide free school lunches for students: https://www.michigan.gov/mde/news-and-information/press-rele...

"the offshoring of manufacturing started in the 50s and 60s and accelerated in the 80s. " - not true.

Manufacturing offshoring started in late 90s in small part due to NAFTA and then accelerated when China entered WTO in early 2000s (thank you President Clinton for this one).

The manufacturing employment trend shows this quite clearly I think: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/manemp

Plus one. My parents experience as well in Montreal. My dad could not understand why Canada bothered to move him and his family and the keep him on welfare. BTW - life on welfare in Canada was 5 times better than life as an electrical engineer in România. My parents never stopped thinking it was a really good idea to migrate to Canada.

The H1B coworkers I work with really go the entire spectrum. The laziest programmers I met are H1B. And there are also some pretty smart ones that I learned a lot from and I continue to learn from.

To say that the H1B are all brilliant is hyperbole.

Re:New $100k H-1B visa fee pushes tech jobs offshore on Monday September 14, 2026 @12:05PM (#49699215)
How was the environment that enabled businesses to lower their cost by admitting China in WTO hostile to conducting business?

BTW - with or without unions manufacturing was profitable in the US before NAFTA and China entering WTO. So your narrative that manufacturing was dying because of labor unions does not hold much water.
