What a waste. Let it starve.
Tea party of the early 2010s also played by this rule. Lots of "I cannot recall"s which translates to "I won't even acknowledge wrong doing so why would I apologize?"
Re:ECS, ECS or ECS? What's the Difference? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @05:06PM (#50172676)
This is really helpful. During COVID I was looking into game engine design and the literature definitely confuses these topics. I imagine it's because everyone is writing about their specific experience but giving it the same name. It reminds me of MVC, MVVC, and MVP all being bundled under MVC.
How do you define old? The oldest initial release or the last update?
Re:Beam: Reflection's 501B open-weight model on Monday October 05, 2026 @09:42PM (#49973148)
Yeah it was rhetorical. Search would be implemented as a tool call. Pure intelligence tests would likely have limited tools. But maybe they would have a python sandbox to solve issues like Rs in strawberry.

Is search part of the model or the harness?
Helps that Disney World was built up and not down. Everything is above sea level because it's in a swamp in Florida. Ground floor for guests is several stories up. I feel like Disney World is more comparable to an open air mall than a city.
Profit in video games as an industry is largely the gambling industry hiding under the another umbrella. I'm not even talking about loot boxes. Just old school gambling games like roulette and slot machines but in a digital format. Once you strip that away and loot boxes, the numbers are great for classic games.

Pandemic really ramped it up. Also screen addiction has gone mainstream. In front of a screen 12+ hours a day 20 years ago? Total nerd. Now? Standard behavior.
Re:The job ain't quite the same on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @11:46AM (#49363127)
It's not the same, and there is no going back. We moved another layer up in the abstraction stack, but this shift feels fundamentally different.

I wonder if the people who enjoy the purely agentic version would also enjoy management. Personally, I have said no to more money because I enjoy the ground level work. But that work is just not the same.

Re:Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @01:59PM (#49349765)
I think running a model unsupervised in anything above medium is a sucker move to burn more tokens. The high effort models can be great in limited context, but unsupervised they too often end up navel gazing. High doesn't always mean smarter, but it always burns more tokens. Medium and low seem to be decent for day to day tasks.

Does anyone else hate reading AI summaries of code? Code can be pithy, but at least its terse compared to prose. When you add how verbose LLMs can be, I often end up reading a paragraph to explain a few lines. Or the opposite happens where the summary skips important edge cases or criteria. "You're right, X also does Y. I missed that in my initial analysis," is much too common of a phrase.

I like the idea of using LLMs to transform code into something more readable, and vice versa. I am not sure if meandering paragraphs and linear lists are the best targets.

How can you sanely project the last 12 months forward? We have seen a huge uptick in usage. Last summer AI was a toy to most devs, now every enterprise developer I talked to uses it every day. Coding agent providers are surely going to hit market saturation in the near future.
Re:Towards a Harness That Can Do Anything on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @12:58PM (#48923805)
I think a better term would be bridle, but most people don't know it. But they do put harnesses on their kids and pets.
Anyone I talked to who actually built software found them to be bunk. Occasionally they work, but mostly they just burn tokens.

The only people I know still hyped on this approach were managers who were detached from actual engineering, primarily producing bespoke dashboard and tools.

You missed the crypto hype by a few years. Also zit is slang for a pimple or acne. Not a great name.
Re:Texas is America Inc's new centre of gravity on Saturday June 13, 2026 @04:43PM (#48521249)
So that puts them in the middle? For such a massive state, regression to the median sounds likely.

Bold claims with no examples. Anyone can make a markdown chart with some pros and cons. Description by comparison is weak.
Great, more RTO mandates.
Because these data centers put enormous pressure on local utilities, pay 0 dollars back into the local economy, and get tax breaks. Often they are facilitated by backroom deals with local politicians. This plays both into anxieties surrounding AI and general corruption.

Files became an implementation detail.
Re:Why Most Senior Devs Plateau, and What to Do on Saturday May 23, 2026 @04:06PM (#48250952)
Because we value leadership over craftsmanship. Ever since people like Ford showed that it was not individual skills but optimized systems that make the biggest corporate machines with the most potential for profit, we have prioritized one over the other.
Re:I did everything but my app doesn't attract anyone on Sunday May 17, 2026 @01:58PM (#48171379)
Does it do anything novel? Looks the same as any other basic stock ticker app. Most of the popular ones are made by companies with massive marketing budgets.
We had a private network on campus circa 2010. Streaming was up and coming but not huge. Gnutella was great on the gigabit intranet. You could download entire HD movies in minutes where conventional torrents may be hours.
I would rather see MS Paint art like Slay the Spire than ai slop art. I think you could have done ai art for a demo but it's so obviously ai, it immediately turned me off. And may turn others off too.
Bleh AI card art. One of the best part of card games is the ability to showcase high quality illustrators.
Hosting and public are different. This measure is like saying unless you are painting public murals you haven't made real art. The take is just so wrong it's hard to know where to start.
I build stuff that people use every day (judging by the flood of tickets I'll get if I ship a bug), but my public github profile looks like a ghost account. 99% of what I build is proprietary, and is either in a private or self hosted repo.

I'm not sure scanning public GitHub is a great way to identify "do nothing" developers.

Re:Where the Goblins Came From on Thursday April 30, 2026 @01:06AM (#47958359)
Prompt engineering is mostly structured thought. Can you write a lab report? Can you describe the who, what, when, where, and why of a problem and its solution?

You can get it to work with one off commands or specific instructions, but I think that will be seen as hacks, red flags, prompt smells in the long term.
