Re:Kids who use ChatGPT as a study assistant do worse on tests on Thursday September 12, 2024 @11:44AM (#41522173)
I like to use it to help me with math problems, or rather when I get the wrong answer to a math problem I use chatgpt to show me the steps and then I am able to review my work.

A loaf a bread is about 2 tablespoons of sugar, which is needed to feed the yeast.

Only thing I think it needs is the option to change the UOM from metric to imperial.

Was Appletalk not installed? It just used a apple printer cable to do networking, this is how I played Warcraft II back in the day.

Re:Ask HN: Best books to understand semiconductor business? on Tuesday October 03, 2023 @02:40PM (#37755863)
Not a book, but Moores Law is Dead & Adored TV youtube channels and podcasts are a great resource.
If you compare firearm & vehicle deaths Firearms Deaths per 100,000 population: 14.7 Motor vehicle traffic: Deaths per 100,000 population: 13.7. You only have a 1 person improvement in outcome with another severely regulated segment.

I doubt putting in a licensing regime would significantly improve anything.

Re:52% of UK gig workers are earning below minimum wage on Thursday May 11, 2023 @10:38AM (#35902789)
For me gig work is side income. I do uber and make $25/hr. Closer to $17/hr. once I pay for gas. But I am on the luck side because I get tipped well.

“God created men, Col. Colt made them equal,”
You should be doing oil changes every 5k (Some say 3k) miles/6 months. Once a year is not enough with the distance you are putting on it. You should have had about 10-16 oil changes. That would explain premature wear on your timing chain (More likely you have broken guides).
I like postbox and emclient. Neither are opensource though.
Would paying more get the results we are looking for? Or does additional funding just pad the pockets of administrators? Also why should we pay more for the poor education of the pandemic? We should be funding alternative strategies.
I thought keepass had shody cloud support, until I picked up KPSimpleBackup plugin.
Re:Mixing diesel and hydrogen provides big cuts in emissions on Wednesday December 07, 2022 @04:30PM (#33900555)
"90 percent hydrogen with an improved efficiency of over 26 percent." Lets see a diesel Cummins Ram would get 25/31 mpg (vs 20/25). Fuel costs $16/gallon hydrogen,$6/gallon diesel so $14.40 + $0.60 = $15 gallon.

hydro-diesel: $0.48-$0.60/mile. diesel: $0.24-0.30/mile

I don't see this being viable without a significant cost reduction in hydrogen, also the storage of the hydrogen is also a problem. If this was a supplemental fuel like a NOS canister, I could see that doing something.

I have always dreaded when I used an app that needed to confirm my bank with and it used Plaid to do it.

These phones are pretty louse tbh. I bought one 6 months ago and 1 month later I switched to a Pixel 6.
Re:Proxmox on Monday November 21, 2022 @05:45PM (#33699213)
I use Proxmox at my work for our various web and windows servers. Works pretty good, now If I could get something newer than sandy bridge Xeons it will perform just as well too.

Mind you the storage was a pain to work with and the cluster had a lot of issues, but they iron a lot of it out in recent releases.

Re:82% of Open-Source Projects Suffer from Tool Rot on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @11:26AM (#33625763)
I have several intranet applications that I need to port to another web framework because of this specific issue. I guess it servers me right for not choosing the most popular framework for my applications.

Looks like a no for me. But I appreciate the effort.
