Ah yes cheers to the cheeky beggars...and if they had been caught in the act? What then? Surely they'd have given up their foolish ruse and not injured any local constables for tis' just a game?

Litmus | Software Engineer | Full-time | Remote or onsite in Cambridge, MA / San Mateo, CA

Litmus helps more than 250,000 marketers make email better. Our web-based email creation, testing and analytics platform empowers marketers, designers and agencies to confidently deliver a superior subscriber experience.

We're looking for engineers to work on our backend analytics platform that processes billions of hits each year. We primarily use C#/.NET and AWS services like EC2, S3, SQS and Redshift. We’re not a typical .NET development team. We love C# and parts of the .NET stack but always seek out best in class solutions and make extensive use of OSS.

Re:Show HN: Helium - Simple web automation on Monday December 16, 2013 @09:51AM (#6915004)
Interesting. We have a ton of work put into Selenium already so switching costs would be rather high for our team. But probably worth keeping an eye on this project.

You're going to have some big obstacles to overcome trying to get people to pay for this versus using Selenium.

Re:Show HN: Helium - Simple web automation on Monday December 16, 2013 @08:58AM (#6914678)
Trying to figure out what this gives me that Selenium doesn't? If I already have a large code base using Selenium why should I switch?

Litmus (http://litmus.com) - Cambridge,MA - We'd prefer local candidates but could be a remote position for the right person.

We're trying to solve email marketing and we're looking for a good .NET developer to add to our backend team. We're at 20+ employees and growing - 100% bootstrapped and profitable from day 1.

A typical day for one of our developers might include building a new feature in C# and pushing it to our staging servers, then hacking on some Java Android code to fix a bug, and finally pushing an update to our 1000+ servers.

You should have a strong understanding of .NET primarily using C#. We won't limit to X years experience, but you should be able to impress with your .NET skills. We're happy to introduce you to the plethora of other technologies we use.

Why join Litmus? - Great salary, full health care benefits, 28 days paid vacation (yes, on top of public holidays!) - The technology - it's always the latest stuff and very diverse. - The best tools money can buy. Every developer has an SSD, dual Apple 27" LED monitors, a 10" Android Tablet, an Aeron chair and whatever else you need to be awesome. - Our office space is amazing. It includes killer views of MIT, Harvard and Boston, an Xbox with Kinect, beer fridge, pinball machine, a Sonos sound system and our newest addition an actual robot. - We also buy you lunch, every day.

I'm not 100% sure of the fine details of the CAN-SPAM act but this sounds like a highly questionably way to build an email distribution list.
Re:Poll: would you buy a service that bills only in €? on Friday July 08, 2011 @01:09PM (#2743245)
Sales jumped around 25%, so pretty significant
Re:Poll: would you buy a service that bills only in €? on Thursday July 07, 2011 @04:14PM (#2740102)
I work for a SAAS that started in the UK. They used to bill in £'s, then in €'s and finally in $'s. Found that changing to $'s only significantly increased conversions.

Also, interesting - got another large uptick when we started accepting Amex - we're B2B and many US folks have company cards.

Re:CEO of Svpply: I have no idea what I'm doing on Friday May 13, 2011 @03:48PM (#2545920)
I think it takes some guts to admit publicly the self doubt that every founder probably struggles with at one point or another. So many people out there are documenting their successes and triumphs or maybe doing post postmortems on their mistakes. It's a refreshingly different and honest perspective.
Re:Joel Spolsky: Lunch on Thursday April 28, 2011 @02:45PM (#2494545)
At our company the CEO just takes orders and goes and gets food. If he's out or busy he leaves a prepaid visa and someone else goes. No fancy china but it works. Sometimes we'll order in using foodler.com which lets you do group ordering.
Re:Joel Spolsky: Lunch on Thursday April 28, 2011 @02:43PM (#2494536)
We do this at my company and it's awesome. The idea is it's not at all mandatory. Do whatever you want for lunch. But everyday, at noon, there will be a free lunch served at this location. Most people will participate in that 4 out of 5 days. If they have a deadline, want to meet a friend for lunch, need to run some errands or whatever it's fine. Most often the conversation is about everything but business.

It makes us closer as a team and some of our best ideas come out over lunch when we're not trying to brainstorm or think about business issues.

Re:Why I wake up at 5AM - The value of purposeless moments on Thursday April 28, 2011 @01:37PM (#2494211)
I've often had this thought. I am not a morning person at all. But if I could just sleep 1 hour less M-F I'd have a lot more time on my hands. 5 AM might be extreme but what if you just made it 6:30 instead of 7:30 or whatever. You'd probably feel pretty equally rested and have a better start to every day.

Re:Ask HN: Why can't I make as much as I make? on Monday April 11, 2011 @11:25AM (#2432849)
I think one of the issues is sales/customer generation. Most hackers are good at that - hacking. Not at selling themselves, their services or generating leads and customers.

Re:Poll: Can / Should IE be killed? on Tuesday February 15, 2011 @02:07PM (#2222694)
this is the one place you might have a shot - if google, amazon, facebook, etc - were just like you straight can't use IE or our sites - then maybe, but no chance the big dogs do something like that
Re:Poll: Can / Should IE be killed? on Tuesday February 15, 2011 @01:18PM (#2222451)
So far the most votes are for "IE can and should be killed". Should is debatable, sure. But I'm interested in how. Because I'd argue it can't be done by anyone not named Steve Balmer at the moment.
Re:Please Review my Christmas Present App: Receiving.It on Tuesday December 21, 2010 @12:27PM (#2028512)
Don't think it's working in Chrome :-(
My company used GoGrid prior to me getting here. The anecdotal reviews were very very bad. That being said I've never used them and it was 18 months + ago so maybe they are better now.

We use EC2 almost exclusively but do run some instances on Terremark (http://www.terremark.com/services/cloudcomputing.aspx) just because we had some issues a while back where EC2 wasn't letting us create new instances for like a week and we wanted to have some insurance.

Re:Top 5 Ridiculous Hacking Scenes in Movies on Thursday November 04, 2010 @11:00AM (#1869138)
It's not a movie but the show 24 was always the worst...in less then 1 hour, real time mind you, they would decrypt insanely complicated stuff...but alas I still loved the action on that show
I work for a startup and we scrum every morning. We have some people working remotely so it's a good chance to get everyone on the same page.

Agile - I don't even know what that means. Different people use it differently. So yeah - uh - we're agile.
