they aren't socialist. they have large welfare systems but little government ownership of private enterprise. they are generally also high in democracy, 60% of taxes are raised and spent at local level rather than national, which is the opposite of socialist governments who prefer central control

lol #notrealsocialism.
the basic course of all socialist systems is
1 : praise as it does well at first
2 : accusations of external influences when it starts failing
3 : #notrealsocialism

Literally for decades people have been predicting average IQ scores would drop due to social/genetic factors. It's evidence of a successful theory. Society should stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and allow gifted students to excel in separate environments

there are good arguments against central banks (optimum currency areas, central planning limitations etc) but this is not one of them

free market efficiency is an evolutionary concept not accounting one. there's no intelligent design.

He was captured by a rival tribe, smuggled into the country illegally, freed by the victorious force and the first thing he can think of is compensation. not from his owners, or original tribe, but the now government that fought for his freedom?

this is how we ended up with a problem in the first place.

Policies of equality of outcomes are inherently discriminatory. If black people are positively discriminated for then asians are being negatively discriminated against. Since spaces in college are limited when you give one space to someone you take it away from another.
Re:A Billionaire and a Nurse Shouldn't Pay the Same Fine for Speeding
on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @11:55AM (#16629692)
the doctrine of equality of outcomes is evil which is what article is trying to achieve. being successful is not a crime or morally wrong as much as the likes of sanders/corbyn like to fantasise that it is. the fact that one person can handle a fine easier than another is no more consequential that the fact one can run faster than another.
Re:Complete and Voluntary Starvation of 50 days

It's unethical to study extreme fasting as you have to ask someone to put themselves into a dangerous situation. Someone doing so voluntarily (against advise) and being monitored is fine.

Re:Cape Town could be the first city to run out of water
on Thursday January 18, 2018 @06:38AM (#16176358)
even though the dams are almost depleted the city's lack of water is more due to political issues than water management. the government is insisting that the local desalination plant manufacturer (which supplies australia and other countries) operate through a "Black Economic Empowerment" partner which heavily inflates the cost, and most likely will be tied to "the worlds most corrupt presidents" partners in crime, the Gupta family.

i can say for sure the few times ive had issues transferring money overseas tesco customer services claim to be checking the status on an hsbc system
Re:Tesco Bank halts online payments after money was taken from 20K acc...
on Monday November 07, 2016 @07:49AM (#12890609)
i believe tesco is a customer services front end to hsbc, so i doubt that its a bank end/ accounting problem. since its only online payments that have been stopped it suggests a card details leak, including the security code. i imagine this would only affect cards that dont have the 2 factor (mastercard/visa) step set up. perhaps a successful phishing or malware attack which has targeted tesco users

hopefully they hold a general election and Mrs May can continue doing her good work unimpeded for the foreseeable future. You may haggle on the terms of a "clear majority" on the referendum but there is no mistaking the majority the tories currently have over their opponents.

on Monday September 19, 2016 @03:13AM (#12529547)
a good place for NoSql is where you don't know what data you are going to receive. e.g. i get weather data from a number of different sources in a number of different formats. the sources and formats change fairly regularly. i am able to extract the data in key/value pairs but don't know which keys will be in any given set of data. with nosql you can extract any key/value pair and save it to the database without needing to parse the data
Re:How Far Is Europe Swinging to the Right?

personal experience, a person my wife hardly knew begged us to let him come stay in england for a short while so he could establish himself here. where he was staying in rotterdam had been overrun with migrants, he was regularly getting mugged in the street and people were banging on the doors in the middle of the night aggressively demanding money. perhaps a distinction needs to be made between ideological racism and generalisation learnt from experience.

cameron far-right? you're joking surely? if you truly believe this it just shows how shockingly far left we have gone that cameron is considered right wing at all.

i would be surprised if we didnt get visa-less travel to shengen and visa-versa. visa requirements for study are generally pretty easy (can you afford it) and for work are a good thing. most eu countries already require some form of work permit (for tax purposes), they are easy to obtain and amount to the same thing as a visa. travel costs are based on market forces and government policy, we could make travel even cheaper if we left by reducing taxes if we chose to. the costs of operation are otherwise the same

Our membership of the ECHR is a condition of being part of the EU. Without the latter the former becomes optional and we can apply or overrule their findings as necessary. Ultimately the British courts should have final ruling in Britain not the ECHR.

its also the generation with the lowest cost of travel and highest disposable income. their ability to travel won't be affected by leaving the eu.
Re:The Need for a Tax on Financial Trading
on Thursday January 28, 2016 @10:01AM (#10988499)
FTT's are bad. There are no models which show that they generate any revenue having been extensively researched in both the EU and UK. The basic rule is that the more you tax something the less of it occurs. FTT's are not only extremely expensive taxes to administer they also reduce overall economic activity and have been overturned everywhere they have been tried.
