There is a fundamental issue when 50% of consumer spending is being done by 10% of the population.

https://www.marketplace.org/story/2025/09/17/top-10-of-earne...

This is the root cause as to why fast food and other companies do not care to keep raising prices, and why fundamentally, even things that "rich people" can enjoy are getting worse, be it media or video games or anything else.

A destruction of the middle class results in a worse society for all, not just the people that earn less, that's not a hard concept to grasp but whatever... I don't think many people will want to change their ways until it is too late.

Re:Grieving the Loss of Details on Saturday October 10, 2026 @10:02PM (#50039095)
This is me basically, I use LLMs on the browser for specific queries rather than you know, have it abstract my work into a black box...
Re:Shipping JPEG XL in Chrome on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:11AM (#50003553)
Now kill WEBP.
No, but these ridiculous valuations and over buying will shut down, and in return most of these level of models appearing after a while will cost ~100$/month or higher, the costs of hardware/land/energy etc are too high for the current costs so these companies will go down under
Re:The NASA/ESA Mars Sample Return mission has been canceled on Monday September 21, 2026 @09:15PM (#49795655)
Since the start the whole program was simply a scam, that is all there is to it, everyone involved knew it was a scam.

I can guarantee you that China will bring back samples before the US, simply because their program was built to bring back results, practically, while NASA's was meant to subsidize PHDs of people involved, while baiting people with "aliens!!!!1", there is no reason why the state should be funding the PHDs of people involved with niche/weird research rather than focus on what the vast majority want and support NASA for.

You can have obscure research as a side mission, not the core, while blatantly lying too.

Because it was, it completely defaced all copyright and similar laws, like there is ZERO ground to stand against China now regarding theft... it's so weird how this is being allowed.
Re:Claude is no longer available for minors on Friday September 11, 2026 @08:59AM (#49657704)
The real reason they're doing this is because most minors can't pay lmao
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @10:32PM (#49637645)
This looks absolutely horrendous especially horrendous to hold, yeah, no thanks.
Re:Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settings on Sunday September 06, 2026 @09:42AM (#49586476)
Absolute piece of garbage browser, just use firefox and or ladybird once it comes out
Re:GPT-6 Astra on robot arms on Sunday September 06, 2026 @08:15AM (#49585772)
It's still shit but I wonder, what is really the thing anyone is trying to accomplish here?

Genuinely.

It's trying to rob people of opportunity to ever migrate and or seek a better life? not just between countries which will very obviously be restricted if actual AGI is ever achieved. Why would you ever give the chance for anyone to come to your country if you do not need their skillset? It would also prevent rural people/town people from going to the big cities.

The obvious end goal is to create a bunch of different "permanent" classes or at least they hope so, I think however you can expect a ton of violence to come from this and people will wish they never invested the resources into this, something beyond what the french revolution ever was, I'm not saying I think it should happen or not, I'm just pointing out the obvious outcome of robbing people of value/worth/dreams in their life.

They will always "avoid" stuff because there is no real antitrust anymore just the illusion of it, it stopped with Reagan.
Re:The ChatGPT/Codex app bundles a full copy of LibreOffice on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @09:07AM (#49535630)
They will never do this
Re:Hang on to Your Firefox on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @11:00PM (#49531213)
If I was dealing with the same type of "person" that's only "contribution" to every github repo is to just go and ask for language policing I would intentionally be as prickly as possibly to them while telling them no.
Re:Hang on to Your Firefox on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @10:57PM (#49531198)
The only real threat to firefox is ladybird, that's it, Brave and other chromium browsers are not it.
app stores always seemed dystopian to me

"human speaks at... tokens"

Yeah, stopped reading there, this is obviously some deranged sam altman paid blog post, I can't wait for the bubble to pop just so his newly launched chip falls flat on his face.

Considering that WoW came out in 2004 and people STILL sometimes call Rogues "rouges"... doubt it.
Re:The Golden Rule for Becoming a Better Writer on Sunday August 23, 2026 @05:47AM (#49407420)
Yeah, I don't think anyone is missing anything from someone who doesn't know/like how to read, sorry.

There's other mediums to express ideas that isn't books if you are functionally illiterate.

Re:Copyright does not protect AI-generated content in EU on Thursday August 20, 2026 @08:55PM (#49382347)
Why would copyright and patents exist when the US blatantly stole the entire world's knowledge to train their AI models (and China distillled from it)
Re:Meta's blockbuster trial draws parallels to big tobacco on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @08:36AM (#49360727)
Hopefully META loses so they can stop this forceful age verification at OS level garbage being financed by META, f..k META.
Re:How Bluesky draws its logo on screenshots on Monday August 17, 2026 @09:00PM (#49339824)
This is what made me avoid chrome since release, I tried to right click a youtube channel background as a teen wanting to use it as a template to make my own channel background on photoshop... turns out they had disabled it, while I could on firefox.
While I like that LLMs won't be able to produce the entire internet anymore, I am worried that the real reason for this move is for Anthropic to claim everything is theirs even though they STOLE humanity's collective knowledge including billions in private property worth of knowledge (or maybe even trillions), and all they do is regurgitate it, but now with a watermark on top as if it was theirs.
Lima, Peru... daytime and night time temps are +8-+3 (single day, might be the coldest of the year) degrees celcius, usually should be like 18-16 celcius daytime, it's at 26-21 (single day, might be the coldest of the year) with +6-+8 being the most common... already past mid winter and there hasn't been a single "cold" day yet.

Pelicans are mass starving so are sea lions as cold based fish have left the shores, no long sleeves or sheets needed to sleep, it's been summer prety much all year... never seen this in 31 years of life... supposedly 98 was bad although this one is projected to be worse... summer temps might hit 39-34 celcius on average if things keep going this way when normally you have 31-27 degrees during summer, considering most houses don't have air conditioning I can definitely see a lot of heat related deaths happening and a potential food crisis forming.

Re:Magnitude 7.7 Earthquake – 68 km NNW of Ende, Indonesia on Saturday August 15, 2026 @02:48AM (#49308338)
It's more likely related to planetary positions and or solar cycle/activity, "recent studies suggest a notable statistical correlation between specific solar magnetic milestones and the shifting phases of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation"

Like in theory it doesn't make sense that el niño causes earthquakes, yet there seems to be more prominent ones during el niño however if both are related to sun cycle/activity it would make more sense (seeing how the moon affects earth as well)

Re:I'm switching my phone from Android to Linux on Thursday August 06, 2026 @03:11AM (#49193497)
It always seemed insane to me that people accepted so easily to have everything locked behind "app stores", crazy garbage, even worse having SO MUCH PREINSTALLED BLOATWARE OUT OF THE BOX.
Re:Stolen Buttons on Saturday July 25, 2026 @01:28PM (#49049620)
Yeah, let's take the remaining fun out of the web, everything needs to be gray and plain.
How about we regulate private corporations so they can't take a "gamble" that's equivalent to a private company giving everyone ferraris on the idea that they will eventually all become formula 1 drivers and give back 10x the ferrari's cost?

Even better, that "gamble" will have to be rescued by taxpayer money.

Every time, this is getting old
The quick state in which we're devolving into a dystopia will eventually be studied a hundred years from now...
