Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:20AM (#50335860)
There absolutely are "smart" projectors which come with android tv installed, but it is easy to spot them as they are advertised as devices you can use on the go
Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:09AM (#50335756)
It's honestly fine, but it does depend on your tolerance for washed out blacks. I have a 1300 lumen projector, stretched to just about its max size (120") and for me it's alright watching in the day. Then it gets even better as it grows darker. As I said, the main issue is that the dark colors are a bit more washed out
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:57AM (#50303221)
Thats how it always works though? If 1b got stolen from a bank, the value of the bank doesn't just fall by 1b, because suddenly no one trusts that bank to store their money, so the hit on the value of the bank is a lot higher
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:17AM (#50245240)
Well the good part is they didn't get an investment grade credit rating, so at least 401ks won't start buying their debt automatically. For now...
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:13AM (#50245176)
From what I've seen, very buggy currently, and unknown how well they will be maintained. They're definitely not at a stage where adobe should be worried about their revenue, and there are foss alternatives for most adobe tools, that are better than these reverse engineered ones. But if they continue maintaining them and fixing the bugs, who knows, maybe adobe really loses some part of their customer base (although a lot of their individual tools have already been moved to the cloud, thus they can't be reverse engineered anyway)
Re:F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:15AM (#50244115)
Ok, for future reference, the next couple months you see any port, you can be 99% sure it was done by ai given the recent REA news. So if you don't want to see ai posts, avoid the port posts
Re:The State of Context Engineering on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:12AM (#50241518)
I hate that they claim the pricing like that. It's 22.5e, we show our prices VAT included, not this misleading american bs
Re:Overgrown, when plants invade your abandoned tabs on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:07AM (#50241069)
Exactly my thoughts, I love this idea, but would like the vines to grow over the tab items instead of the window itself. the trouble there however is that sometimes my tab icons are literally just icons (or even less) with my tab hoarding tendencies
Yeah, but thats a lower level of abstraction, thus using more tokens, and more importantly occupying a larger chunk of the biggest current limitation, the context
Re:EMudhra Intermediate CA Compromise on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:10AM (#50177929)
Edge on macOS?? You can't even escape it there LMAO
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:26AM (#50166955)
Well presumably the load on the deepseek inference service is a lot higher, probably most users of deepseek use it through them (presumably more in SEA, less in US/EU). And for the users from the EU/US, if they are going to use deepseek, their usage is distributed among all those providers (because of the need for zdr)
Re:MiniMax M3.1 Flash on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:55AM (#50164313)
I mean the efforts you linked are showing there aren't actual nerfs happening, making the alternative explanation of people just 'growing into' the capabilities of models more likely to me
Re:Jev Meets the Trolley Problem on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @05:28AM (#50163441)
Yeah, some may be impressed by lunas 0 kills, im impressed by vons 47, that model knows what it wants
Re:Neural Networks Are Already Clean on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:12AM (#50162827)
What do you mean when you say it's like a hologram?
Re:Neural Networks Are Already Clean on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:37AM (#50162587)
It doesn't mean its memorized all the lat, long points, but it has memorized a map to check said lat long points? Seems a lot more likely a part of the training data is the rough map of lat and long points, specifically for better positional understanding?
Re:Muse Spark Open on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:14AM (#50116973)
First they came for the communists, but i didn't speak up, because i was not a communist
Re:Muse Spark Open on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:59AM (#50115910)
What Chinese AI lab are you aware of that the CCP closed down?
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @09:59AM (#50087901)
Nothing too puzzling really. It was a good assistant specialized for a relatively narrow set of tasks and tooling on a much more modest chatbot architecture. Now it has a wider set of tools it can use, but is also computationally more expensive, so it runs slower. Makes it better if you want to do any task, but if you want to do a task like set the timer, the old model is obviously faster
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @09:34AM (#50087568)
the etymology can be broken down even more, its the prefix a - meaning without, opposite, no. and ergon, meaning work, visible in words like ergonomics, or the ergosphere
Re:GLM-Legal: Advancing Agentic Legal Intelligence on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:57AM (#50071867)
Exactly my problem with this, I wouldn't even suggest trying it to my lawyer brother, as the harness he developed already is probably more effective for the law of our small non anglo-saxon law country
Re:GLM-Legal: Advancing Agentic Legal Intelligence on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:54AM (#50071811)
Most people don't even know what 3rd world means, and just use it as a pejorative for poor countries
Re:Fable Took My Job on Monday October 12, 2026 @06:07AM (#50054076)
Historically I agree with you, but considering how many people reacted negatively to the mathematicians' concerns about development in ai, and people calling them hobbyists, it seems to me someone is trying to create infighting as always. Seems like the reaction may yet again be the mentioned aw-shucks, but they'll find something else to do
Well i mean, the whole idea of discovery is that you're not sure what you will discover until you do
Proofs of open problems are valuable because we are assuming that proving the problem requires some new method or infrastructure in math to prove it. Basically proving open problems isn't actually useful if it doesn't develop new tooling for mathematics, which can help us create new open problems, solve other ones etc.
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Monday October 05, 2026 @08:37AM (#49964061)
IIRC, the antitrust case against them (or a planned antitrust case) caused them to invest in apple, so they actually have a competitor, thus bringing the resurgence of apple in the early naughts
I go to the /active tab after reading through the daily news, there you can see things that were controversial, and the things that are popular will be greyed out because you read them earlier
I would argue you need to prove p=np before using the term arbitrary
Re:Frog and Toad and the Increasingly Capable Machines on Friday October 02, 2026 @08:37AM (#49932809)
No, you're right, the world is black and white, with 0 nuance
How do they counteract sham relationships/marriages. I assume they have to live together for a certain amount of time or something similar? If the marriage falls apart do they need to return the incentives?
Your spelling reminds me of the old Benedict Cucumberbatch jokes
