You realise it's commonplace *not* to have weekends in China, right?

On the basis of your logic that's a consequence of the lack of union and organised labour

What's the option called for that toggle?
Re:Welcome to 'Le Monde' in English on Monday April 11, 2022 @07:17PM (#30996452)
On the contrary, the BBC has a major right-wing bias and regularly downplays - and even often outright chooses to not report - pieces that reflect poorly on the UK Government (which becomes striking when you read some European or American dailies that report much more freely on such stories).
Re:How LCEVC works – A new approach to video compression on Tuesday April 05, 2022 @01:22AM (#30915557)
Minimal adoption? Don't YouTube and Netflix use AV1 for their highest-quality offerings?

lol Windows 10 is essentially deprecated, dumbass

The iPhone / 3G / 3GS / 4 were so far ahead of what any of their competitors were doing that it can be difficult to conceptualise it in hindsight.

HTC, Sony, Moto, RIM - there's a reason these companies barely exist in the same form anymore. Samsung were the first to consistently catch-up to Apple - largely because they're official strategy at that point was 'copy Apple'

Um... no.

That logic makes no sense

There are numerous reliable sources that have confirmed the existence of Chinese Concentration Camps.

Whether you dismiss them is up to you, but the fact remains that numerous sources have reported on the existence of Chinese Concentration Camps.

The fact that there's an actual genocide taking place in the country is all we need to know - all the other so-called "assumptions" pale in comparison to that reality

What are the varying/conflicting definitions of Communism here, and which one is the 'correct' one?
Congrats! Game developers are the only subset of developers / software engineers worth paying money to / for :)
Re:Dislike button would improve Spotify's recommendations on Sunday October 17, 2021 @04:40AM (#28894928)
Spotify didn't pay Rogan to be exclusive to them?
If you don't understand something that most people have an agreed viewpoint on you might want to spend some time reflecting.
No.

A third-party paying to have a small poster ('Tile') that shows + links to their product is the very definition of an ad.

Yo if someone wants to visit my house/town/city then fuck yeah they need to put up with my shit
Re:Firefox 90 on Wednesday July 14, 2021 @02:04AM (#27830146)
This is ridiculous and hyperbolic on a few points, namely that Chrome's position is way worse than Microsoft's. Even if we ignore the fact that Chromium is open-source, that Chrome is heavily extensible, that Google has demonstrably shown commitment to developing the web in an open manner (eg WebRTC) - ignoring these and other facts, when Microsoft was 'in charge' of the Web (via IE's power) they locked IE down, killed their competition, and literally single-handedly stalled the progress of the Web.

The fact that you say IE at it's peak was worse than Chrome shows incredible ignorance on the matter.

Your anecdote about your friends reminds me of this odd joke from school

There's a senior citizen driving on the highway. His wife calls him on his cell phone and in a worried voice says, Herman, be careful! I just heard on the radio that there is a madman driving the wrong way on Route 280! Herman says, I know, but there isn't just one, there are hundreds!

Re:iOS 15 Humane on Thursday June 10, 2021 @02:32AM (#27457535)
Microsoft's recent history with 'forced UI additions' of this sort would imply it is indeed intentionally user-hostile.
Why the fuck do you need my WORK email address with 2FA verification?

More accurate is 'stolen code without proper attribution'

What's wrong with Monday?
Maybe their quality of life is increased by not having to spend part of their life (and possibly money - I can't think of a free Gmail alternative that's not as bad as Gmail's practices) searching for services that are at least as good as what they currently use?
Isn't this essentially saying:

1. Make Apple build a strong permissions API that covers the filesystem, sensors, GPS, isolation, privacy, tracking protection etc.

2. Force Apple to provide this for free to all developers (allowing them to charge for access to list on the App Store)

?

Re:Robinhood, in Need of Cash, Raises $1B from Its Investors on Friday January 29, 2021 @07:52AM (#25956712)
The reason a Bank is strictly defined is that TW does not guarantee any cash that you have stored with them.

With a bank you have up to £85,000 insured and guaranteed e.g. if the bank fails

Re:Boeing 737 Max cleared to fly again 'too early' on Monday January 25, 2021 @07:39AM (#25902459)
Except Boeing also aggressively pitched that pilots didn't need to be extensively re-trained for the 737
I'm pretty sure only Android is cheaper.

Last I checked Microsoft's signing prices were much higher than Apple's

Re:How Huawei controls its employees in Europe on Thursday January 14, 2021 @03:57AM (#25773885)
Maybe I'm misreading this, but isn't this a good thing?

'Small company avoids being taken over by globalcorp because their employee rights are too strong'?

I'm trying to think of other US-Euro takeovers but right now the only one coming to mind is Microsoft/Nokia... and that's not good story

Of course VSCode is proprietary malware - unless, as you suggest, you build it yourself and get rid of that proprietary telemetry malware (https://github.com/VSCodium/vscodium)

But please don't suggest that we should praise Microsoft because they're decent enough to almost give us a somewhat convenient-if-you're-a-dev way to avoid being tracked?

So this is just a rally that got out of hand, harmless.

I wonder - would you stand up for them if the crowd was a BLM crowd, and the outcomes the same? Would you stand up for them if it were a Muslim crowd, and the outcomes the same?

If you would then that's admirable and consistent, so fair enough

If you're attempting to equate the contexts of systemic, on-going race-based manslaughter to someone fabricating a conspiracy theory (while offering no evidence, threatening other elected officials, rallying supporters, etc) then that is - purely in an academic sense - stupid.
Compared to something like Krisp (since there's no RTXV on macOS) it was difficult because step one was to compile it.

Assuming the rest of the UX journey is similar (i.e. technically-oriented) compared to Krisp's menubar click-to-activate-mic UX it then becomes less approachable

On a tangent - nice work! That people are even comparing it to RTX Voice is impressive!
