Re:Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full on Monday August 17, 2026 @07:42PM (#49339217)
I fed the image into Gemini and it could not detect that it’s legit or AI, but in addition to the wrong store name, the other banner that’s supposed to day SOFTWARE says TWARE or something like that. It sure seems like AI to me.

It’s not Mandela effect, it’s AI.
Re:The ice machine that chills Chicago’s skyscrapers on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @10:38PM (#36610352)
For anybody wondering, the AC in these buildings can become very cold, so it’s quite an efficient system. I kind of liken it to NYC’s shared steam .
Re:Ask HN: How might HN build a social network together? on Thursday December 15, 2022 @09:15AM (#33999776)
Vine was killed by Twitter. A foolish move given how popular TikTok is now.
Actually, just ask to be an extra. You will get paid, fed, and get to hang out all day on set.
I believe the parent is being sarcastic.
Re:Peter Thiel to step down from Meta’s board on Monday February 07, 2022 @06:50PM (#30253209)
99% of internet posts make claims without sources.

Ye makes a cameo, bruh.
Can we add "Defund the FBI" to the national narrative?
Because the SEC regulates publicly traded companies.
Of course not, this is just the parent poster's opinion. The truth of the matter is that there exceptional individuals who decide to get into software development and software security. The problem with software is that often companies don't invest into securing their software, and that has to be a priority. Perhaps having the SEC force fines for not securing mission critical software is the first step?
Magic mushrooms are now being used to treat anxiety. Just something to consider when dealing with a situation that creates massive amounts of anxiety (being stuck in ice with no way out).
Re:No One Is Prepared for Hagfish Slime (2019) on Sunday March 07, 2021 @11:04AM (#26376917)
The US Navy has figured out a way to create the slime in a lab - https://newatlas.com/hagfish-slime-us-navy/47544/

They’re hoping to use it for shark repellent and ballistic defense.

Re:Microsoft Surface Duo – Dual-screen Android phone on Wednesday August 12, 2020 @07:54AM (#24131096)
Microsoft abandoned their Windows Mobile OS years ago.
Re:Microsoft Surface Duo – Dual-screen Android phone on Wednesday August 12, 2020 @07:53AM (#24131081)
Just curious, is a user supposed to put the device up to their ear to make a phone call? Or is the expectation to use a bluetooth headset?
Re:E3 2020 Cancelled on Wednesday March 11, 2020 @02:21PM (#22548646)
Good idea, but that would mean the game journalists wouldn't have anything to do.
They mean to assign an expiration date to your tokens. Then when you're done testing, still revoke the token, even if you haven't reached the expiration date.
I don't understand why making them available via a prescription would solve anything. I do not smoke or vape, but I have a friend who stopped smoking because vaping was accessible without going to a doctor. He just tried it because he wanted to see if it would work, and it did. He no longer vapes or smokes.
He's a troll. Read through his comment history, it's nothing but "love socialism; hate capitalism" rhetoric.
Re:America's Complacent Class on Friday March 03, 2017 @12:03PM (#13784226)
I agree, you constantly see posts and discussions on the elusive concept of "work-life balance". People don't stop and take the time to address their personal needs and just concentrate on the career.
This is true for large corporations, but smaller startups that is not the case. Smaller companies have everybody wearing multiple hats. Nobody sits around, and if they do, it's time to ask them to leave.
Re:Why I’m thankful for JavaScript fatigue on Tuesday November 29, 2016 @11:53AM (#13064225)
Security is it's own separate issue. There are best practices that must be observed in all frameworks (preventing xss, sanitizing user data). Of course sometimes there are bugs, but the OSS community resolves those rather quickly.
Re:Why I’m thankful for JavaScript fatigue on Tuesday November 29, 2016 @11:51AM (#13064204)
Agree with the author 100%. We want tons of new JS tools and frameworks out there so we can learn and evolve newer and faster ways of developing. I still remember when jQuery first came out and how earth-shattering that was. This inspired so many more devs to create better and easier to use tools.

Agreed, the BS Detector seems more like the "Things I Don't Agree With" Detector.
Re:This Pizzeria Is Not a Child-Trafficking Site on Tuesday November 22, 2016 @01:25AM (#13012046)
Who are you to determine who is fit to vote or not vote? The point of democracy is that EVERY citizen has a say in their government, despite how insane their belief system may be.
When did it become acceptable to post political propaganda on Hacker News?
Re:Zuckerberg in Lagos Land on Wednesday October 05, 2016 @03:20PM (#12646896)
This reads like a PR article that Zuckerberg paid to have written.
Re:GitHub Audio on Tuesday October 04, 2016 @10:39AM (#12635857)
It would be possible if there was a change log constantly updated that was meta data to the stream. In other words, each time something is done on the audio/visual file, log what it was, and version control that.
Re:The man behind the million dollar homepage 11 years later on Friday September 16, 2016 @03:04PM (#12516463)
Agreed, kind of like gambling.
