Assume?

I made no assumption, I took you at your own word as per your GP comment in which you were quite emphatic.

The Chinese government calling an event the "Peaceful Liberation of Tibet" doesn't negate many others in the world calling the same event the "Chinese invasion of Tibet".

Rinse, Repeat.

Orange hydrogen is the new green is a recent thing also, for those that have an interest.

This is extremely location dependant.

Not everybody in the world is effectively forced to drive. Sure, maybe if someone has the misfortune to be an US city they have no other option but there are other places that are not like that and cities with good public transport and relatively low car usage.

They're likely thinking of Zuse's Z3 of 1938 rather than the somewhat later Max Newman / Tommy Flowers build of 1941-1943.

You can still hitch a ride on a pearling lugger to the horizontal falls and shoot them with a homemade sea kayak in real life .. and as yet there's no VR / AR plugin for that in the digital world - at least not one with real whirlpool stoppers, salt water crocodiles, and warm equatorial water sharks.

It's a two month old article - the reporting on Musks contributions is more recent.

There are no checks because (US) Supreme Court judges aren't subject to any laws making non declaration of gifted RV's and expensive holidays illegal.

That said - yes, they need anti corruption / bribery regulation, fixed terms, and those terms to be co-prime wrt political fixed terms.

and offer up actionable suggestions to reduce deaths:

In addition to the high number of bat deaths, the paper identifies factors that could help reduce fatalities. These include changes to turbine design and placing wind facilities in locations where bats face a lower risk of being killed. "Collectively, these results suggest that siting strategies to reduce bat fatalities are possible, but species-specific approaches could be beneficial."
I appreciate the time you took to consider and answer, I'd put it to you that there's more to it than geographic isolation.

There's nothing preventing Wongi folk from buying a pair of DGX Sparks and having them shipped out to Kalgoolie and they're literally on the same ground as the Australian component of the SKA - some of the more advanced signal processing instrumentation and racked supercomputers on the planet.

I hear talk of making AI centres isolated in space, etc.

Re:Radiation Map of the World on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:01PM (#50332176)
Good addition, cheers for that.

For context that above is processed and reduced data, for those that care.

The raw data (which was once online (and may still be, having shifted)) is full 256 channel counts + height + distance to ground + raw GPS packets + post processed GPS position + etc... straight out of the airframes (and additional "meta" data - the concurrent calibration runs, stripping weights, raw GPS base station packets, etc).

The data linked above is three values per grid cell post process - the full spectrums are normalised, then U-K-Th (Uranium, Potassium, Thorium) decay product peaks are extracted to reconstruct estimated U-K-Th values for a grid cell (and a pseudo colour image created from those three values)

Great for background environmental radiation mapping - useless for spotting out of band "stray" radiation events not of a natural origin.

For that you want to subtract a NASVD kernel from the data and look to the leftover peaks between the big three daughter decay peaks ( and similarly for removing radon smear, etc ).

There was no claim that it scaled, merely that it should not continue.

My point is that AGW is sensitive to the source of burnt fuel and not to the act of burning fuel alone (although it is a balancing act between carbon released and carbon captured - thrown out of balance during the anthropocene by the act of dragging up "old" carbon from the depths).

And there was vastly more energy potential in the Hiroshima bomb than was actually released - of the 64 kilograms of uranium in the bomb, less than one kilogram underwent fission, and the entire energy of the explosion came from just over half a gram of matter that was converted to energy.

By the above banana logic; How many Hiroshima atomic bombs worth of energy were in the Hiroshima bomb?

More is measured than is passed on, that is true.

The entirety of Fiji, and most of Mali should ideally also be online / available - but can be a tricky find (ditto many other places about the globe).

Before and after Pokhran-II India, (1998) should also be an interesting study that might be tricky to hoard the data for.

If only I'd had the foresight to indicate that cosmic & radon removal weren't something to fuss about on handheld consumer click counters <doh> - thank you for chipping that in.

Might be worth pointing out the principle reason preventing radon removal from a click counter, no matter how sensitive, is the lack of a channeled spectrum bucketing counts by energy level, and the main reason cosmic cannot be removed is the lack of channeled stacked height descent readings allowing a ground level current cosmic estimate.

> When capturing open-air terrestrial tracks they are more or less uranium and thorium detectors.

and Potassium also- just all bundled together as a total count with no discernment.

Still, perhaps one day in the future, just as modern GPS carry a coarse ground / ellipsoid separation model in order to return 0 elevation at the seashore, perhaps rad counters will carry a coarse global radiation background model to focus on counts over and above the expected.

( again, unlikely due to lack of real sensitivity and channel bucketing )

Re:Radiation Map of the World on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:31AM (#50326060)
Pretty much, there are no shortage of ways to merge such data badly.

Many devices, uncalibrated and drifting, poor time normalisation to address counts accumulating when lingering, ... ffs they probably don't even adjust for cosmic or radon ...

( TBF the last two are pretty picky objections unless you're going hardcore geophysical professional )

Re:Radiation Map of the World on Sunday November 01, 2026 @08:37AM (#50325576)
That's not a radiation map of Australia ( https://radiaverse.com/country/au#2.82/-27.05/133.28 )

This is a radiation map of Australia: https://www.ga.gov.au/bigobj/GA13928.pdf ( gridded data available for d/load )

The first being a very few submitted tracks of handheld click counters with limited accuracy and no reporting of the peaks across the breadth of gamma spectrum; the second being a decades long high resolution 256 channel 40 litre crystal pack calibrated, normalised, geophysical survey of the entire continent.

A cultural love of the dunny.

Just as Australians share a love of the BBQ with parts of the USofA.

Most of Australia does that, TBF.

Yes, there's litter in Australia of course, but most Australians are taught from a young age to leave nothing but footprints and trek out whatever they bring with them when moving about a city, a park, wild areas.

Relative lack of litter and glares from Australians when tossing stuff on ground as a tourist is apparently enough to make a number of those daft "10 things about Australia ..." videos and listicles.

Dandy. It's different to cash.

Some do that, yes - not everybody can (eg: small communities, limited travel, few people with cash that want to buy basics)

It's highly improbable that any in the SF lunatic fringe works the annual harvests as Agricultural scientists measuring nutrition.

Again, is there any evidence that actual people are actually suffering a nutritional deficiency solely on the basis of eating GM Vs non GM equivalents?

For pragmatic reasons methanol is more probable: https://methanol.org/what-fuels-shipping

and that production of hydrogen (as a base for either ammonia or methanol production) will likely come via electrical cracking .. but it might also come as a result of atmospheric carbon sequestration in ultramafic rock: https://phys.org/news/2026-09-orange-hydrogen-western-austra...

In practice it can be even more fine grained:

> then pay us so we can buy them.

If a government pays out money then people can buy whatever they chose, not just food, clothing, and shelter.

Some governments have implemented schemes that issue variations on constrained cards (not generic money) that can only be used to obtain "necessities"

Energy costs, of course, vary by location - so that linked report is the Australian national science (both theory and very much applied) body determining that conditions in Australia are such that the economics of nuclear power here have costs greater than that of grid scale solar + batteries + other storage technologies on horizon and being firmed up.

That'd only happen if the kids watching had no exposure to women being engineers though.

Even as a child in 1960 I watched women fix aircraft, lifting out engines and stripping them.
