Re:A society that runs on stimulants is badly broken on Sunday August 30, 2026 @08:57PM (#49504459)
So the article should be about how we are an addicted society to accurately capture the essence. You can be addicted to anything - good or bad or indifferent. And that's definitely the culture...

I guess I am a little bias here too - if my caffeine intake goes near 200 mg for the day then I get shaky. I have a friend who can toe the line at 700-800 mg! Which I read the other day that is the 'danger zone'.
Re:Tell HN: PayPal Blocks GrapheneOS on Sunday August 30, 2026 @08:53PM (#49504432)
All true things. I'm suggesting for the user, who chose to use GrapheneOS - why did they choose GrapheneOS? Many think an OS or doing one thing or another 'protects' them - and they certainly can, but from whom and why? I have a GrapheneOS phone but I would never do any PayPal transaction on it.

Is this not what most companies are turning towards? It's one giant bait and switch operation lol - especially if private equity gets involved!

I don't know how we do it. I am much more clearheaded without coffee or anything of the sorts.

Mixing PayPal with GrapheneOS defeats the purpose of GrapheneOS. Your PayPal account will tie the digital signature together....unless you're using a false identity I guess...

Substack is dead. Give it two years max if it doesn't change its business model.

I think you are correct too. I was throwing a less apparent (and yes less significant) reasoning out there.
for now I guess we just need to wear blue man group outfits....
I think #2 would be a great business idea for some smart people to aggregate some satellite imagery with AI and you could create such a thing to monitor the glaciers and maybe lead to some predictive aspect which could aid an early warning system.

I think #1 requires a LOT more nuance than carbon levels.

I'd hope he did! I hope all of you do to. This isn't information you want so easily publicly available. It's a pretty easy request.

I see this also being a natural psychological thing too. Chinas population is so much greater and there is pride involved in using "Chinese" made just as there is "American Made" here in America. Obviously the user base is throughout the world, but Im sure nationalistic pride plays a large role here. Any time some subject comes up as China overpassed the U.S. in this or that, it's just like okay they have many times greater the population. Now, if they surpass 200 fold in any venue, then that's some other worrisome problem.
