You don't go to jail for copyright infringement lol
When my guy is in office it's good and normal. When their guy is in office it's bad.
It's not that website owners don't care that they're frustrating users, losing visitors and customers, or creating a poor experience. It's an intractable problem for most website owners to combat the endless ways that their sites are being botted and bogged down, and having to pay for resources to handle the 98% of traffic their sites are getting that isn't coming from real users and customers. By all means, solve it and everyone will be happy.
Yeah the government shouldn't care at all what these foreign nationals might be saying on the internet before letting them into our country.
HN skews heavily towards users with very unusual setups. Using one of the least popular browsers on an OS almost no one in the grand scheme of things uses makes you a statistical outlier on its own. Who knows what other obscure configuration choices could be making the problem even worse for such a user?

But yeah, it's none of that just Cloudflare hates brown people or something.

I downgraded a $250/mo plan but it bugged out, re-added it to my account, and charged me. Couldn't remove it. Contacted support and after a month of no response they closed the ticket.

Created another ticket. After a week they apologized and said something about having a very high volume of support requests.

It's common for people to say things like that and throw in the phrase fiduciary duty. That's what's being referenced here.
48 months for 375 attempted murders isn't exactly getting the book thrown at you. It should have been life.
Re:South Korean president declares emergency martial law on Tuesday December 03, 2024 @09:07AM (#42306139)
This article reeks to high hell of the regime propaganda writing we see about domestic politics:

"Yoon — whose approval rating has dipped in recent months — has struggled to push his agenda against an opposition-controlled parliament since taking office in 2022.

Yoon’s conservative People Power Party had been locked in an impasse with the liberal opposition Democratic Party over next year’s budget bill. He has also been dismissing calls for independent investigations into scandals involving his wife and top officials, drawing quick, strong rebukes from his political rivals."

See the same patterns. You can tell which side they want to paint in a bad light and what do you know it's the conservative side.

It's easy to be smug when you're comfortably sure that any fraud taking place will be in your favor.

HN libtards sperging out over a Nazi story lol. Your social credit score has increased

Use Cloudflare's Turnstile captcha. It's leagues ahead of Google's or hCaptcha. Users never have to click on stupid images, and it works great. You're not going to be able to stop people manually signing up but depending on how they're doing it, you might curb some of it.

These guys have loads of email addresses and can just use a VPN to switch to a new IP in seconds. Often accompanied with a completely fresh browser session that you're going to have a hard or impossible time correlating with past attempts.

Parse the domain portion of the email address and check that against a blacklist of throwaway and fishy email domains. Manually blacklist domains as needed. You can find blacklists hosted on GitHub. Use the Public Suffix List to parse the domain to make sure you don't accidentally ban an entire obscure TLD. Parse down the email domain to remove any subdomain when checking against the blacklist.

If you're really serious, you can use an API provided by SendGrid to check for suspicious email addresses. You can also look into MaxMind minFraud.

Ban IP addresses. Not every spammer is highly sophisticated and sometimes a single, fixed IP will be responsible for many spam attempts spanning months at a time.

Devise a way to fingerprint browers. This can be as simple as a random hash set to some innocuous cookie name. Ban offenders by those too. It's not always going to work but a lot of spammers aren't terribly sophisticated and you'll be able to catch them even if they're IP hopping.

My Windows 11 taskbar looks just how I liked it on Windows 10 and prior. Adjust your settings.
Re:E.U. Censorship Laws Mostly Suppress Legal Speech on Wednesday June 05, 2024 @10:40AM (#40585372)
Europe's idea of conservative is what Americans would call far left. It's all relative anyway. If you're just trying to conserve something left wing against something even farther left wing then it's still left. Mostly meaningless label. Almost no one even knows where the political terms left and right came from. People call Afghanistan right wing as if that means something.
It's because people remember having more money and paying less for things under Trump and they are currently living under the opposite of that.
The 51 states huh
Re:Caniemail.com (like caniuse but for email content) on Monday May 06, 2024 @07:40PM (#40280722)
I wish there was something like BrowserStack but you send a test email and it shows you how it renders on tons of different email clients on various platforms. It wouldn't work for web-based email like Gmail but it would still be useful.
Calling random people on the internet racist is so gay
That's true, I'm just banned but it still lets me comment and that's fine with me. No pesky fake internet points to worry about.
Someone post the pirate link so we can read this.
The US also has demographics that are inherently more violent. Being poor doesn't make you become a murderer or rapist and yet some segments of the population, despite being only a small percentage of the whole, commit such crimes at an absurdly disproportionate rate. Cultural enrichment I think we call it here.
A lot of very bad people want that same future for you. Maybe you'll get your wish.

I assume it was a joke since he then goes on to talk about Dynamic Drive and would for sure know what DHTML stood for.
Should just let the fraud keep her position. It paints Harvard in exactly the light it deserves.
It's sad that you feel like you have to preemptively defend yourself against criticism for implying children shouldn't be exposed to subversive or NSFW content.
By some childless cat woman trying to rationalize being unmarried at 45 because she spent her life working for soulless corporations.
Worth noting this is some straight up psycho behavior.
Re:Netlify accounts are being suspended with no recourse on Wednesday July 26, 2023 @03:55AM (#36874397)
Often it's the case that the less a customer is paying, the more indignant they feel they can be with support. I don't know why this is. You get more reasonable customers with higher pricing. I imagine a free tier attracts all sorts of riff raff.
The Supreme Court is doing a great job undoing many terrible things. Roe v Wade overturned, Biden's student debt wealth transfer scheme illegal, forcing people to cater to every weird thing gay people want illegal, making affirmative action for college admissions illegal. Maybe there's hope for this country after all.
