I'd get some hate for this on football forums, but targeting needs to be enforced a lot more strictly than it is. The NFL also did a good job reforming kickoffs, they're much safer now than they were, but we need to do something about punts.
I'm kinda surprised its that low. Football, especially at the pro and college levels, has players (especially linemen) taking car crash level hits every single play.
Because everyone's heard that advice, but people don't tend to take action until they have evidence that they, personally, are at risk.
AAPL has a history of sitting on massive quantities of cash tbh
We can and should be the very very loud majority.
This seems like a great excuse to pull over minorities. In general pulling people over for vague "suspicious behavior" without suspicion of a specific issue is a massive violation of everyone's rights.
Thats not entirely true. High trust tight knit communities are the default we evolved for. Where is usually breaks down if people don't have a strong internal sense of guilt is in sufficiently large groups (i.e. cities) where the social dynamic breaks down and people get effective anonymity.
Not to mention, one of the most important things, the absolute best app out there for controlling insulin pumps for diabetics is an open source app you have to "sideload." I'm not usually one to make hyperbolic accusations, but in this case Google attempting to kill sideloading could put real people's lives in danger, or substantially damage their quality of life.
Its like finding out that for many years every minuteman silo in north america used the launch code "00000000"
The first 3DS exploit required Cubic Ninja, a terrible game that sold poorly and was instantly $80+ once it was revealed.
Data centers often come with their very own natural gas turbines right outside to provide power the grid can't supply. This is what happened at xAI's data center in Memphis.
As a Texan,
stop telling people to move here, I-35 just keeps getting worse
Theres no such thing as ZDR unless you self-host. The companies that claim to offer it have histories that would suggest otherwise and are currently so big and powerful that the government won't do anything to them even if it comes out that they completely lied about it.
I'm shocked Bambu Lab hasn't gotten the same treatment.
The thing is "smart tvs" are actually cheaper than dumb tvs would be, specifically because they can make money on the advertising.
Anyway, google TVs (like my TCL tv) let you use them in dumb mode, which is what I do. I just have it wired to my Apple TV 4k (the least bad of the smart tv boxes that support HDCP) and thats good enough for me.
If a physical copy can be, then a digital copy should also be.
If we never passed normal somewhat mundane legislation in "unprecedented times," we wouldn't have passed anything new since September 2001.
There are a million docker-compose files floating around for exactly this that just need a little bit of configuration.
Because the privately owned dating apps measure their success in profits, which gives them a misaligned incentive to ensure people don't meet anyone. Its not crazy to say a nonprofit dating app wouldn't face the same problem.
Anticompetitive behavior is one of the most predictable failure modes of capitalism. Capitalism only works if you have measures in place that protect fair competition and those measures are actually used.
A lot of Chinese name brands are extremely high quality, as good as or better than the American equivalent. Anker is one of the better known examples. However, there is also a lot of unbranded or white label garbage made by the lowest bidder to try to spawn camp popular search terms.
Exactly. For many of us, designing and writing code has always been the fun part; reviewing and whatnot, the parts that are still left for us meatbags, was more of a chore.
Oh I know, but its a bit of an uphill battle
Well, that website has successfully made "Open" feel like a fake, made up word to me. It is quite... something how a word that once meant "this project is FOSS" now just means "we like this word"
Well then I think we are well past the point where they deserve charity.
The biggest obstacles are 3 things:
- Lack of ACPI support means you need to spend time to customize every ROM using whatever device trees and proprietary blobs for every phone
- Most phones have locked bootloaders
- Most importantly, Android apps are built for Android. They can run in things like Waydroid, but certain interactions will be broken and app developers probably won't support it. People want phones that work well out of the box.
So, no. Maybe an actually-open Android fork will gain popularity, but mass adoption of a GNU/Linux mobile OS won't happen.
I don't like the idea of creating microorganisms our immune systems can't recognize.
It is extremely dangerous and we don't need studies to know this. Consider a bacteria which your immune system cannot see. Such a thing would kill you very very quickly. Now, consider that our immune systems are composed of molecules of the normal chirality. They would be completely unable to recognize the molecules mirror life would use.
Can we please stop trying to kill everyone for like 5 seconds? Mirror life would probably be the fastest, most uncontrollable, path to the extinction of every complex organism on earth, ourselves included. If there is a worse idea than building Roko's Basilisk, it is building mirror life.
