A classic source of white noise is to reverse-bias a diode or the base-emitter junction of a transistor[1]. This produces shot noise[2] though, which is independent of temperature, so I guess it's not what they are using.

Maybe you should take a leaf out of your own book and revise what socialism actually is, and how the USSR wasn't that.

Re:The shadowy cartel of doctors that controls Medicare on Sunday July 14, 2013 @02:24PM (#6041640)
(I'm from Europe) Does the word "socialism" actually mean something different in the US, or is it just an abuse of notation? I see this all the time. I don't see what worker-owned means of production has to do with the efficacy of healthcare.

I think that might have been intentional :)
Re:Basic income vs. Capitalism on Sunday July 07, 2013 @11:00PM (#6004898)
You seem to be confusing a basic income with minimum wage, which is a completely different thing. The apple sellers are also receiving the basic income, so whilst you are free to raise your prices, others will not, and you will lose out.

Did people like Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek, who were proponents of a basic income, overlook this basic point, or is it in fact you who "doesn't understand capitalism" and is "smoking crack" (your words).

(I don't mean to be hostile, but your tone really doesn't help your argument.)

Re:“Why did you shoot me? I was reading a book” on Sunday July 07, 2013 @08:02PM (#6004205)
Chomsky said this:

"The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate."

Argument from fallacy.

Is that supposed to be read as "phone me" or "phoneme"?
You realise there is a reason that there is no API, right? Nice job on violating Snapchat's terms.

Some routes are very sub-optimal though. But you can't satisfy everyone's needs.

What are you talking about? They are quotes, not "scare quotes" (see how I just quoted you?).

The character is ſ, and it doesn't go at the ends of words, so it would be: The purſuit of happineſs.
You're assuming that it's possible.

I see this happening more and more. Especially with regard to the recent topic of transparency, I don't think hellbanning is a good idea.
Re:The Way to Produce a Person on Tuesday June 04, 2013 @02:55PM (#5821390)
have you considered the possibility that people don't do it primarily to feel special? What do you think is the spirit of charity?

For migrant workers?

For gay people?

Then there's the caning, censorship, draconian drug laws etc. - doesn't seem like that nice a place to live if I'm honest.

Good on you!

Re:If a mathematician wants to cross a road on Tuesday May 21, 2013 @08:26AM (#5743135)
You might want to read up on the principle of least action. Light takes the shortest path, not because it "knows" or anything silly like that, but because that path's action is a minimum (actually it need only be a stationary point). From a quantum mechanical perspective (see Feynman's lectures about QED), light takes all paths, but the sum tends to the classical path, which is the shortest.
Re:How Facebook ruined comments (at least for me) on Monday May 13, 2013 @06:32AM (#5697980)
I find that 4chan's comment system is surprisingly effective, especially being able to mouseover a link to a comment and have it pop up.
But the landlord is also receiving an extra $300. The landlords who increase their prices will lose out to those who keep their prices the same.
Is there any actual justification for viewing spacetime as being discrete, with unit 1 Planck length/time? As far as I'm aware, the Planck length is just a length you get when you multiply a load of constants together.
I'm surprised how popular compatibilism is. It seems like a complete cop-out to me.
Re:Exploration of the Google PageRank Algorithm on Thursday May 02, 2013 @07:03AM (#5643623)
What does G signify? I'm a bit confused as to why taking its eigenvector gives you the pagerank vector.

You seem to be hellbanned; I'm not sure why. This is the last comment of yours I can reply to.
