Re:Learn to Code, It's Harder Than You Think on Friday December 04, 2015 @11:51AM (#10677375)
No, definitely not. But you could certainly get a few others together, start a band, play some gigs, maybe even make a little bit of money.
Re:A Decade at Google on Wednesday September 23, 2015 @01:02PM (#10266261)
Thank you. I was reprimanded once for essentially "only" being at the office for the defined time we agreed I would be there. I spent some time racking my brain until I decided I wasn't being unreasonable.
Re:Programmer Passion Considered Harmful on Monday March 16, 2015 @11:02AM (#9211812)
I guess I'd just like the distinction that not living and breathing code doesn't equal a lack of passion. I'm passionate about programming. Can't say I ever was about washing dishes. They were both jobs, though, and when I get off work, there are other things I want to do.
Re:Programmer Passion Considered Harmful on Monday March 16, 2015 @10:25AM (#9211577)
I was wondering the other day: is it possible to enjoy coding, be good and employable, and still leave your work at work? I code at home too, but yeah, other passions take priority. You rarely hear about programmers who don't live and breathe code, but there must be a huge number of them.
Re:How to create a handheld Linux terminal on Tuesday January 13, 2015 @04:23PM (#8882693)
That scene had a pretty big impact on me as a kid. Here was a movie with time traveling assassin robots, but that scene always seemed totally believable and possible. I think about it a lot, for whatever reason.

This is truly one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. I can't help but think of the little Atari Portfolio John Connor has in Terminator 2.
Re:You can't win the game, it exists only to destroy your mind on Tuesday December 09, 2014 @11:00AM (#8723447)
I played for a minute or two, said "Huh," and closed the tab. Sure feels like I won.

Re:Nodemailer v1.0 on Tuesday July 15, 2014 @02:35PM (#8038184)
Great, thanks! Nodemailer has been very useful.
I think I addressed that in my comment. The article is a little about emoji, and I addressed that too.
Seems neat, and I appreciate the forward-thinking mentality. But, as far as I am aware, emoji are a fad and won't really stand the test of time anyway. Either way, I guess, it's nice to see these easy-to-use, easy-to-create principals in play.

I believe a copy of that book came with my Gamecube preorder, all those years ago. It's a great book, easy to read, very interesting.
10 years old, and holds true now more than ever.

Purely anecdotal, but a buddy of mine lives in Shenzhen and tells me that Apple's leading the pack in terms of sweatshop conditions. Whether that's completely true, who knows.
As is zoidbergcoin, which is a coin I could get behind.
Re:A Great Old-Timey Game-Programming Hack on Monday December 16, 2013 @09:48AM (#6914983)
The Mega Man games had amazing music too, but I think Metroid still stands out as one of the best examples of fantastic 8 bit music. Haunting!

Re:TV Is Dying, And Here Are The Stats That Prove It on Monday November 25, 2013 @04:34PM (#6797220)
Fair enough. I'd much rather have 3-4 breaks in an episode to surf around online/make popcorn/whatever instead of stuff like this in every show I watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQYwFND7rHE
Re:TV Is Dying, And Here Are The Stats That Prove It on Monday November 25, 2013 @09:33AM (#6794174)
It'll likely manifest as blatant and ridiculous product placement in the original programming, won't it?
Re:Additional FISA Documents Declassified on Tuesday November 19, 2013 @11:47AM (#6762391)
Strikes me as a smooth blend of both. But the segment of the public that inspired this move can see through the translucency and won't be satisfied until they stop giving us scraps and start inviting us to the table, so to speak.

Woah, woah, no need to start talkin' crazy around here.
Re:What It's Like to Fail on Monday November 18, 2013 @03:15PM (#6756650)
Publishing I can understand, but a seasoned sitcom writer -- especially a Roseanne alum -- should have been able to pick up more writing work. I'm not saying he's lazy or entitled or anything like that, just that the world can sometimes be a scary place where you end up in a bad situation just by luck of the draw.
Re:What It's Like to Fail on Monday November 18, 2013 @03:02PM (#6756548)
Frightening and strangely inspiring. Definitely worth a read. Right on for his honest and uncompromising view of his own situation.
Re:Browser logos on Monday November 18, 2013 @10:41AM (#6754783)
Oof. I must be in the minority here. That shiny, 3D logo looks pretty bad to me. Like, a 'New Super mario Bros' kind of bad.
I'll go out on a limb and say that cooking is a tad easier and more accessible than building a MacBook Air.
