Re:The AirPods Pro 3 flight problem on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @01:31AM (#45742983)
God I have a similar problem with APP3 on flights only. They seem to allow in this deep rumble vibration that my APP2 did not :( Otherwise the APP3 are much better in office, home, etc.
Re:Google Fiber is coming to Las Vegas on Wednesday January 22, 2025 @06:18PM (#42798561)
I'm surprised Google hasn't forgotten about Google fiber.
Re:3D-Printed Dune Chess Set by Rory Noble-Turner on Tuesday December 17, 2024 @12:59PM (#42443552)
I couldn't find it in the article, maybe I missed it, but does anybody have more information on the printer / material used besides just quartz?
Re:Vim Racer on Monday August 26, 2024 @02:48PM (#41360362)
Maybe i'm missing it, but I think this would be much more useful if it showed what the optimal way to navigate per-target was.
Re:Carl Weathers has died on Friday February 02, 2024 @06:13PM (#39235766)
Just saw this episode yesterday! How unfortunate and unexpected his passing is.
For real, having shared walls is such a detriment to mental health having to hear conversations, music, tv, people taking stairs, it's never quiet. Having your own private yard to have bbqs, play with dogs, etc also sounds amazing.
Re:What Type of Exercise Is Best for Mental Health? on Monday June 26, 2023 @01:59AM (#36476214)
I'm on the unfortunate side of having panic disorder. Some exercise, like weightlifting can trigger panic attacks due to the sudden spike in adrenaline. Steady-state cardio is usually fine.
Re:Ozempic drug supresses desire to smoke, drink and more on Saturday May 20, 2023 @01:52AM (#36009670)
Why do you think Peter Attia is a charlatan? Out of all these longevity & health influencers he seems most realistic & knowledgeable.
Re:Reduced cancer mortality with daily Vitamin D intake on Tuesday May 09, 2023 @02:47PM (#35878729)
Anybody vitamin D deficient even after supplementation? I had mine checked September of last year, it was low even when taking 2000 IU a day, so DR gave me a 50,000 IU pill to take once a week. It's still considered deficient, but not as deficient. I live in Seattle, so not much sun has been out the past 6 months, not sure if that's skewing numbers lower than they are in the summer.
When did you join and how is it going? I had an offer from them ~4 years ago and this was one of the teams that I was in talks with.
Re:Learn Vim (2021) on Saturday February 25, 2023 @01:57AM (#34934538)
I don't really "get" using vim as an editor, but I love using vim bindings in vs-code. I've been using vim bindings for maybe a year now? Didn't really keep track of when I started. I definitely consider myself a novice, and maybe am using vim to 10% of it's potential, but the little bit I do use is nice.

On the other hand, I've never considered typing speed or editing speed the bottleneck in programming, it's usually debugging, solving problems, or reading files with 10k+ LOC and multi-hundred line files figuring out what they are doing.

Re:Build Your Own Fast, Persistent, Toy KV Store on Tuesday February 14, 2023 @11:05PM (#34799968)
Any way to watch the lectures while not a current GT student? I'm an alumni on the OMSCS, but this course was not available before I graduated.
I guess it really depends on your use case? Something like GMail it probably makes sense to have a database more than 16 TiB.
Re:Sugar and fat affect your brain on Thursday January 12, 2023 @01:41PM (#34358383)
From my understanding it's no the dietary cholesterol to worry about, but rather the saturated fat content.
Interesting, wouldn't first party article be preferred to third party?
Re:Sorting with SIMD on Sunday December 18, 2022 @03:36AM (#34035986)
Maybe Google's new "Rune" language will become prevalent https://github.com/google/rune, which supports SoA.
I'm surprised "in-home router-level network caching" hasn't become a thing, really. Lets say you have a family of 4, all with iphones that need updating, windows updates, downloading same games from steam, app store, etc. It could be significantly sped up for whole house to download file 1 time instead of 4.
Ally saving account rates are > 2%. You are not "losing money" in that your total account value is going up, but your purchasing power is going down as it's lower than inflation.
Re:Apply for student loan debt forgiveness on Friday October 14, 2022 @10:14PM (#33210981)
I think most people could consider it a one time personal 10k tax deduction.
Re:The Next Chapter for Learning on YouTube on Friday September 09, 2022 @04:25PM (#32784457)
I'm surprised it's taken this long, honestly. Seeing other sites which in some ways just clone Youtubes functionality but are focused on education, where creators can make courses and sell them (Udemy for example), it just makes sense to me.
Re:Ask HN: Anyone working 4 day week here, as an employee? on Sunday August 21, 2022 @07:05PM (#32545391)

Re:Lavender's Game: Silexan for Anxiety on Saturday May 21, 2022 @03:18AM (#31455953)
I did not.
Re:Lavender's Game: Silexan for Anxiety on Friday May 20, 2022 @02:38PM (#31451014)
It took a couple weeks for me because I started with taking one daily at night, didn't notice much benefit, then took two per dr. recommendation. After that noticed benefit pretty quickly.

One thing I did not expect which the article mentions is the "burps that taste like lavender". It was quite unexpected for me but I personally quite like them. I think my stomach might have gotten used to the lavender though because I would get them ever single time I took them for the first few weeks, and now it's maybe once a week some minor burp.

Re:Lavender's Game: Silexan for Anxiety on Friday May 20, 2022 @01:55PM (#31450590)
My doctor suggested I take this last year for my GAD. I've been taking it since September, and it's definitely been a huge change for me. Previously, I was really "on edge" and would get panic attacks semi regularly. I haven't had a full panic attack since starting to take in, and day to day I feel much more like I'm able to function like a regular person instead of always having that "on edge" feeling.

I guess it's possible it could be a placebo? Previously I was on lexapro for a while, and that didn't seem to be as effective as this, and had some side effects.

Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2022) on Friday April 01, 2022 @09:54PM (#30885202)
Remote available? I have a Tonal for just over a year and love it.
Re:Using hamburger menus? Try sausage links (2019) on Thursday March 17, 2022 @01:34PM (#30713752)
Yeah it took me several minutes to figure out how to scroll on a macbook because there is no visible scrollsbar, to hit right arrow, and then the scroll bar appeared. I couldn't click and drag it.
Please don't bring this toxic culture here.
The title does "Google mandates workers ...". Have to read further to know there is an option.
Re:Ask HN: Has Amazon been hounding you? on Wednesday February 16, 2022 @02:04PM (#30364237)
Without firsthand knowledge, I heard SDE 2 can get up to 400k and SDE 3 can get 500-600k. Crazy.
Re:Long-term cardiovascular outcomes of Covid-19 on Monday February 07, 2022 @04:57PM (#30251899)
Huh, I got sick a few weeks ago and PCR test was negative for covid, but I had this same thing with the tingling arms last night, I woke up and it was my whole body pretty much, but especially bad in the arms. And now I'm getting it a bit in my feet / ankle area awake today.
