Re:TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users on Monday January 20, 2025 @11:07AM (#42770008)
I'd be surprised if they don't already.
The ICC case has nothing to do with south africa, it was brought by the office of the prosecutor. The case brought by south africa was in the ICJ.
While I don't necesaarily disagree, in the case of france at least they can't really complain after completely destroying libya with its pals.
Re:Why just blocking Meta's Threads won't be enough on Wednesday July 12, 2023 @03:21PM (#36700298)
Then I fail to see the issue since "real conversations" aren't happening on the fediverse either.
Please stop reading reddit for your own good
You're not solving anything by reading comments you dislike either, what's your point.
You yourself just explained the reasoning as to why they would think that and seem to agree as well, not sure why you'd call it stupid.
Re:Tweetdeck is now broken for normal users on Monday March 06, 2023 @03:01PM (#35046781)
Honestly the "insider" even talking about "protecting" people from trolling and state co-ordinated misinformation(?) in the same sentence as protecting them from csam makes it very hard to believe it's something genuine.

Sounds like the people who say all the petty things they dislike about someone on the internet and then finishes with "he's a pedo" to add gravitas.(yes elon does fall into this category)

Re:Netflix's New Chapter on Monday January 23, 2023 @05:26PM (#34495993)
Because it makes money anyway and getting actually good people would cost more nd take longer.
More of a material fault than anything else, hiuses in the us are disposeable
SV is not representative of tech workers
And what did they do about it once they got this information? Yeah that's what I thought.
He is probably trying to stop the inevitable derailment once someone mentions(or believes is referring to) vaccines in any way that is not unequivocal and blind support.
Re:Epic Games to pay $520M to resolve FTC allegations on Monday December 19, 2022 @10:02AM (#34052852)
Somehow that wasn't an issue the last two decades, comparing it to alcohol is absurd, you dont go to the epic cornerstore and talk to the epic fortnite clerk to unlock voice chat.

This war on "toxicity" at the expense of basic communication is insane, the match ends and it all supposed harassment ends.

The idea that this is normalized as the way a bank behaves is profoundly scary.

Thanks for the copypasta
Re:Musk’s $5.7B Mystery Gift Went to His Own Charity on Thursday December 15, 2022 @10:20AM (#34000829)
One could argue that he wants the charity to be good just because of the "prestige" of having a top charity, and that would be helping personally I guess.

Not sure how putting money in a charity would make him more money even with tax breaks than just investing that money somewhere else, although I got no clue how charity tax breaks work in the US,

Re:The War on General Purpose Computing on Sunday December 04, 2022 @07:40PM (#33859850)
No, it's not. csam is illegal and so is revenge porn, the platform could even be in favor of csam and revenge porn and they'd still need to follow the law.
Re:Author warns about 'epidemic of self-censorship' on Wednesday November 30, 2022 @11:33AM (#33803202)
Urban dictionary is hardly a good enough source to do the heavy lifting you're trying to use it for.
Re:Emacs 29 on Wednesday November 30, 2022 @09:06AM (#33800912)
You can run an emacs daemon[0] and connect to it from clients both local and remote, including having multiple clients connected to the same daemon and editing the same file with total synchronization built in, you see not only the changes in realntime but the other client's cursors making the changes, for the masochists that enjoy pair programming.

And yes you can run the client using the gui emacs not only terminal emacs.

I assume that's what he is talking about.

I'm skeptical rust memory management is such a big invention by them and would bet some money the ownership model already existed before in papers at the very least. And even if not just imagine having to pay Dahl or Alan Kay to implement OO in your language, which was by every possible metric more innovative than rust's memory management.

Even if it would have stopped java from being a thing it's just not worth it.

Re:Where the Sidewalk Ends: The Death of the Internet (2021) on Monday October 31, 2022 @07:07PM (#33414627)
That's a very long winded way to say you have no evidence of it ever happening
Re:Where the Sidewalk Ends: The Death of the Internet (2021) on Monday October 31, 2022 @11:21AM (#33407059)
tarrant was widely mocked on the website, im not sure what makes you think someone would be radicalized to become another version of him there, everyone was mocked there actually.

The hotel where she was doxed by the sheets nothing was delivered, the second hotel was where the uber hack happenned and things were ordered thru ubereats, this was all done by doxbin[0], both the dox and the hack.I'm pretty sure kf was actually down during that whole thing due to a ddos attack but I may be misremembering.

Wikipedia doesnt post the truth(it's impossible, really), they post things backed up by secondary sources, when the secondary sources are knowingly lying[1] at keffals request to not mention doxbin it's pretty hard to trust them.

[0]: search keffals doxbin on google, not linking to it. [1]:https://destinygg.substack.com/p/keffals-a-case-study-on-int... check chapter 3, all sources are inside, doxbin is website zero.

Re:The tyranny of the supertweeter on Monday September 19, 2022 @06:35PM (#32905076)
Even hn has some supertweeters, fascinating.
how is that significantly different from someone downloading several segmented 4k\1080 "clips" and running them? Youtube seems to be able to do it just fine.
