You should probably update your comment to at least let people know this is a one-time lifetime cost. Not a subscription.

Which is priced similar to Tailwind UI, which people are fine paying for.

Meta - anyone else not seeing a scrollbar on the blog? Chrome on OSX.
Cute game. A lot more forgiving than Marble Madness though.

Needs a good enemy marble to come crack you and hammers too.

Re:Building a Blog in Django on Tuesday September 12, 2023 @06:36PM (#37489538)
Incremental builds exist, so you'd really only have to build once: https://nextjs.org/docs/pages/building-your-application/data...

That said, personally, I love PG and enjoy using a DB. But I can see pro's to both sides.

Pretty inconsistent, but like Svelte, Rails, general tech, general business talk, books, etc.

It really makes sense though. I don't think it's because they don't go to therapy though. Look at the five levels they provide:

* Every day * 5–6 times per week * 3–4 times per week * 1–2 times per week * Less than weekly

Most people I know who go to therapy go once or twice a month. Very few go weekly, and I don't know anyone who goes 3+ times a week.

Re:DALL·E: Introducing Outpainting on Wednesday August 31, 2022 @02:21PM (#32666245)
Seconded. I got awesome results in making "artwork in the style of Yoshitaka Amano" in DALLE but horrible ones in Stable Diffusion. Maybe the prompt was incorrect there (it would be great if these were more discoverable), but they art in SD was lacking.
Re:Tailscale raises $100M on Wednesday May 04, 2022 @11:46AM (#31262108)
Maybe technical customers who knew it were Electron. I knew, and don't really care. My wife doesn't even know what Electron is- everything is just another app to her.
Re:Is Rust Web Yet? on Saturday April 16, 2022 @07:50PM (#31057138)
Looking forward to checking some of these frameworks out.

Question- Curious to know what backends / languages would be the fastest for a REST-based PostgreSQL backed API?

I did something similar on my homepage a while back, albeit not nearly as clean!

Take a look! https://www.davidwparker.com/

Here are mine:

All are made with Svelte (SvelteKit for the first three and Sapper for ListenAddict). Rails API backend. PostgreSQL.

Re:Ruby Fiber Scheduler on Monday February 28, 2022 @02:03PM (#30503596)
I like it. It's easier to read across short lines quickly versus too long. That being said, you could probably get away with a little bit longer.
Re:Ask HN: What are your hobbies? on Sunday February 06, 2022 @03:07PM (#30236454)
Fitness:

- Trampoline wall

- Aerial Straps

- Handbalance / Handstands

- Calisthenics

- Breakdancing (though not as much since Covid)

Reading way too many books

Creativity:

- Making chocolate truffles

- Making ice cream

- Slowly introducing myself to Kintsugi

- Watercolor

I also like to work on side projects and I wanted to get into Pixel art and making music, but I agree with OP about it being hard to sit in front of the computer after being in front all day for work.

They also said they've reimbursed all funds. So if you were hacked personally, you would be out money here, vs keeping it on their exchange where you would be made whole again.
Re:Ask HN: Which tech stack is the most fun? on Monday December 20, 2021 @09:56AM (#29625552)
Frontend: Svelte! (and SvelteKit) Backend: Rails (still! API) Mobile: Flutter
Re:Ask HN: Companies of one, what is your tech stack? on Wednesday August 25, 2021 @12:32PM (#28303670)
I've got a few sites (trying to make money), all using the more or less same stack:

* Frontend: Svelte using SvelteKit (and one Sapper), TailwindCSS / TailwindUI, hosted on Vercel

* Backend: Rails API, hosted on Heroku

* Database: PostgreSQL

* Queues: Sidekiq

* Caching: Redis

* Mobile: Flutter

* AWS S3 for things like images.

Sites:

And business site / blog:

Definitely The Tail End by Tim Urban

https://waitbutwhy.com/2015/12/the-tail-end.html

``` It turns out that when I graduated from high school, I had already used up 93% of my in-person parent time. I’m now enjoying the last 5% of that time. We’re in the tail end. ```
^ This is the crux of it, in familial (parental) relationships, we spend most of our time with them early in life, and that we don't get nearly as much time with them after graduation.
which goes into great detail many different times where police abuse power, and why things need to change.
Re:Generating JSON Directly from Postgres on Thursday July 15, 2021 @04:38PM (#27849833)
How does it compare in terms of performance to https://github.com/jsonapi-serializer/jsonapi-serializer (a fork of Fast JSON API out of Netflix, which wasn't being maintained)?
Re:Valve Steam Deck on Thursday July 15, 2021 @01:41PM (#27847520)
Probably someone like me. I have a pretty crappy PC for gaming, but I have 100s of games via Humble Bundle I've bought over the years. I already have and enjoy my Switch, but having another option (plus all the games I have already) would be nice.
Re:Virtual DOM is pure overhead (2018) on Wednesday June 30, 2021 @02:58PM (#27692230)
The creator of Svelte (Rich Harris) works for the NYT. If you ask him, I'd venture to guess he wouldn't say it's an "experiment" as they regularly use it. I doubt his frontend work there is alone too, so I'd guess it's fairly in-use. But again, that's just my guess.
Re:Virtual DOM is pure overhead (2018) on Wednesday June 30, 2021 @02:55PM (#27692202)
Yes, it's very much in beta! And if that's a concern for you, then I'd stick with Sapper or Elder.js or another.
That said, I think the replies covered the concern pretty well. For me, I don't really have any concerns with it. I don't find it very opinionated nor restrictive, but I come from a Rails background where I'm used to convention over configuration, so maybe I'm biased towards reasonable defaults.
Re:Virtual DOM is pure overhead (2018) on Tuesday June 29, 2021 @02:14PM (#27679629)
I built https://www.listenaddict.com/ with Sapper. It was a good experience. That said, all of my other apps are using Kit, and I'm finding that experience even nicer.
What did you find unappealing about Kit?
Re:Virtual DOM is pure overhead (2018) on Tuesday June 29, 2021 @02:11PM (#27679593)
I'd say that the NY Times is pretty good for "at scale".
Re:Static site generators to watch in 2021 on Monday June 07, 2021 @07:51PM (#27428866)
SvelteKit uses Vite under the hood. Also, as it uses Vite, it's generally faster than React/Vue. Not sure that's really contested.
Re:Zero to Production in Rust on Saturday June 05, 2021 @12:26PM (#27406376)
I upvoted it because:
1. HN, in my experience, is an extension of ycombinator. Since it's this guy's entrepreneurial thing, I think that's relevant.
2. I'm interested in Rust, though I've never used it.
3. I'm the target demographic for this.
Re:25 Years of CSS on Wednesday June 02, 2021 @02:39PM (#27372344)
I'd suggest checking out Flutter if you're doing mobile dev (or at least Android). It makes styling ridiculously easy.
Anecdotally, I haven't bought a single CD since the Sony rootkit fiasco. I had bought one, got rootkit'd at the time, and vowed not to buy another. I don't regret not buying any more.
