"We have great tools and you'll get to work with cutting edge technology" is a selling point!
DuckDB is now close to competitive with Trino. As the post shares, large distributed multi-tenant data systems require a ton of work no matter what technology you use, but as a huge DuckDB fan, I do have to agree that it is not an out of the box data warehouse, though check back in a year or so when DuckLake and DuckDB 2.0 have had time to mature a bit more for this use case.
Their forward pricing prices in all expected growth... so if they don't have accelerating momentum that reduces expected price.
I built a factorio "sidecar" LLM harness that would look at production stats every few minutes and identify issues. Even sonnet was good enough at finding potential things to alert on. coal production dropped and then iron production dropped two minutes later --> top potential issue.
Not useful enough that I actually play with it, but it was capable enough to be useful even just with sonnet.
It's just email! Works perfectly boringly.
move fast and break things.....
It's not about blaming a person, it's having a person or organization that has reputation to lose or gain and resources to fix it. Responsible AI coding usage increases both velocity and quality, but it's very easy to have issues become the responsibility of nobody.
Making a custom household object requires time, effort, and expense. Especially if you want it to be nice.
A lot of DIY AI software is going to be the equivalent of home built workshop / shed furniture: it works fine, but it is janky and built from whatever they had at the hardware store. There will be a place for professional assemblers and designers and engineers at the furniture store / factories.
A business ending software failure or security breach can occur from a single feature flag variable or 'minor' parsing bug. Usually its a long sequence of these, but it only takes one.
I've personally experienced week long incidents because someone didn't understand how a system worked and a couple of low impact shortcuts and convenient approaches and minor mistakes all came together to internally DDOS important systems. All reasonable individually, resulted in the majority of the ops team pulling a 70+ hour week and doing live prod cleanups in the middle of the night.... Agents do this faster. Also, they're labor competition, maybe.
For FAA purposes this is 100% not a plane.
Regulatory arbitrage is part of the value.
Github outages are pushing people away from it, AI maximalist software swarm coding is pushing people towards a bigger way.
for political ones they often get volunteers who are just pushing a send button nonstop...
> Sonnet max actually beats Opus max.
What are you smoking and can I have some?
Except Sonnet is slower, more expensive, and worse at reasoning levels above ~medium. Opus on low is faster, cheaper, and better at doing things.
Sometimes this tier is faster, and getting a good enough result in a few seconds instead of a better result in ~15-30 seconds is a meaningful result.
I think it's also a fake lever to give to finops / it teams to try and keep costs down.
"our management might be stupid" is a risk that people have been sued for before...
Yeah, everyone I know paying enterprise prices is really looking at them wondering if it's worth it. Most of them think it is, but they're also looking at alternatives...
and those charitable contributions probably include a bunch of marketing partnerships and their security work that would be very bad to back away from...
Appreciate the commitment to the bit!
Author is a genius troll.
Norway did not see negative revenue from their tax.
The fundamentals are fundamental for a reason. Don't go crazy with them, but triggers are great. (especially if you version control all your data definition language code)
Very excited for Triggers. Now DuckDB really is close to being a data warehouse in a box.
Now you see the system inherent in the violence!
Cheaper than thousands of dollars a month in Claude API use.
The problem is knowing when to stop. Cluade is not good at that.
Vertical on the curve of throwing money away for a share of the pie, but if AI gains are zero sum, then all parties will end up spending their profit on AI to fight each other, just like most companies spend more on marketing to acquire customers than to deliver their product.
