It's not the use of the characters per se, it's the fact that this app came from a country with a history of state-sponsored hacking and censorship.

You could argue the same point regarding Apple's naming of their Macbook line prior to the discontinuing of the original Macbook moniker. Even now, the difference between the standard and the advanced Macbook line (purely on naming) are the words "Air" and "Pro".

There's also http://patents.stackexchange.com, which allows users to request and submit examples of prior art.

It doesn't seem to detect logins if third-party cookies are blocked. I had all third-party cookies blocked, and it didn't detect me logged into any of the sites. Disabled blocking, and it detected me logged into Google and G+.
Re:Ask HN: why is Johnson & Johnson listed as supporting SOPA?
on Thursday December 29, 2011 @11:39PM (#3406617)
I believe it's because they (and many others on the second lists) emailed Congress supporting some sort of copyright protection laws, but didn't name SOPA directly, and then Congress (or some other shady org) had the cojones to put their names onto the support list. A similar thing happened with Gibson Guitars, story here: http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111222/16384317175/gibson...

Did you even read the article?
Have a look at this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pornographic_actresses_... and try telling me with a straight face that all those actresses have a greater right to a Wikipedia page than the professors that the author mentions.

The fines for pirating music are ridiculous. I remember reading somewhere that the fines for pirating Prince's entire discography are more than Prince has made from those albums. Where's the sense in that?
Re:Raphaeljs polar clock demo (no flash, works even in IE6)

Found a bug:
If the clock runs until one of the smaller circles makes a full loop (i.e. transition from 11:59 to 12:00, which showed up as 12:60 for some reason) the inner circles make a full rotation every second.
