Re:Ask HN: Do you still own a printer? on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @10:58PM (#49987537)
I also own a brother laser printer. I bought it for $50 from some guy who definitely gave "I stole this from work" vibes.

I barely have to print anything, so not having to deal with clogged inkjet heads has been great

My nephew had a Gabb watch for a bit. Would not recommend.
Re:PS1 Games with DLSS 5 [video] on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @07:32AM (#49624740)
My take:

I was thinking DLSS 5's super resource intensive use doesn't have case in the latest greatest hi res, hi poly, already photorealistic games.

The use case is older early 3D titles. I was more thinking PS2/Gamecube/Xbox(OG) era, but seeing it work on an emulator is fantastic. It's an excellent option to have, especially with older titles where even if a developer wanted to do a modern remaster the rights might be murky or the demand isn't viable.

This lets you get the old school games of your childhood with a fresh coat of paint (and sometimes that paint is a landlord special). And if you don't like it, don't enable it. People are already making texture packs for retro games, so the argument of the original artistic intent doesn't hold water when we're already not playing on original hardware or CRTs.
