Jody Foster?
Which IMO can also be stated as that saying that goes by "If you want to go faster, travel alone. If you want to go farther, travel together".

There must be a middle ground between setting the bar so high that you will find only the diamonds and setting it so low that almost every rock out there will pass.

Wow, it really looks like a cat jumped on my keyboard :( sorry for the typos/missing words.
Re:OccupySaaS on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:30AM (#50335496)
And how you need to accommodate your business to work with it, learn a proprietary too, do training, ask for new features or bug fixes and hope at some point they will be implemented, or create workaround them, all while paying each month a hefty fee. Oh and pay somebody to tackle negotiations when the contract expire comes in, or throw away everything and spend even more human hours to migrate off it when the price is really draconian.

But hey, it gives a living to many HNers so it's good!

Where? I had a xyz for a few bucks in PorkBun and it just renewed for 15$ now. Also, a domain is an ongoing expense.
Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:22AM (#50334326)
I don't think this apply to most UST projector nowadays. I mean, operating lifetime is probably still an issue, fan noise while higher than a TV (which doesn't have it) is not an issue anymore, heat.. well, come close to my (old, ok) OLED LG TV and you can still warm your hands (although not like the previous plasma one I had, that's true). For the setup I don't know exactly but there are online shops that gives you the 1st setup for free (at the cost of doing the unboxing for you). Also probably nowadays with an LLM almost anybody that care enough to research and buy a projector can do it, I guess.

Yes, I want to buy a projector this Black Friday (Hisense PX3-Pro).

Re:Sam Altman Thinks You're Wasting DRAM on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:45AM (#50314781)
The linked interview in YouTube has sama saying basically what the article states, you can go and watch it. And I think it sparks a discussion worth having, here on HN.
Re:Sam Altman Thinks You're Wasting DRAM on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:19AM (#50314639)
Why has this been flagged?
Re:Infinite Mac: BeOS on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:11AM (#50314604)
Which model are you using? If Anthropic/OpenAI aren't you tripping any "cyber" blockage?
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:27AM (#50302981)
Isn't store of value something that keeps up with inflation? I put 100$ today, which can buy X, in 20 years I can still buy X with that, while 100$ can buy just X/2.

Otherwise I just use the dollar bill as the store of value

Saving one memory...

I took note of your suggestion, next time I will write the README in the voice of da-luce/astroterm README.

Re:Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:54AM (#50289103)
Can you tell me which division (i.e. 2.1) and specific point you are referring to? Sections seems to jump 3 by 3 from one page header to another
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:01AM (#50288279)
As an Italian, I'm astonished by Italy.
Re:Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:32AM (#50286914)
The issue seems serious but the part about Australia and 000 that would ban an attacked device seems the typical LLM-being-too-anal paragraph, and completely lacking common sense.

Maybe I'm wrong and naive but given that the AU law was done to force people move forward from 3G only phones because the network was being shutdown and 000 moved to 5G (I believe), it's a law for operator to contact their customers still using an old phone and migrate them to a newer one. I doubt they will block automatically the number if you are under that DOS for a few days in a row.

Re:The Last Deploy on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:39AM (#50286519)
Hey this is really impressive! Just played for 15 minutes and even if it's probably vibe-coded it's really well done! Congrats whoever did this!
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:52AM (#50286180)
The original poster actually talk about their singular experience, rather than a general overview. Even worse, they apply their feeling about how the future would be on their own past experience, arriving to the conclusion that the future will then be bleak.
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:15AM (#50285904)
What you say can be in the right direction, but that doesn't mean that the linked piece has a really, really oh but REALLY narrow perspective, even among the developer/HNer type of person. Because not even for the average person here the only way to meet people is due to the code they (or other) write.
Yes, there are. A popular protest (and even riots!) should come entirely or at least in the vast majority from a sentiment spread across the people. If it's 500 youngsters that come out of the blue following a campaign orchestrated most probably by a foreign state actor, then it's not legitimate.

Yes, we could start doing verbal and mental gymnastics about how an external actor could be legitimately interested to try and drive the political landscape of a country one month before elections, sure. But it's not the point here.

Re:Ghostty 1.4.0 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:42AM (#50272013)
Why static output history for a session/tab with reload on restart should be a multiplexer feature? I mean, the Ghostty GUI has already multiple tabs and split terminals, aren't those multiplexer features as well? I don't follow you.
Re:The State of Context Engineering on Monday October 26, 2026 @08:39AM (#50242630)

For eg. optimizing skills, it can help to put more important information at the bottom of a skill.

LLMs are tuned to overweight very early information so that they don't disregard system prompts. You might be able to exploit this by placing some important facts near the very beginning of a conversation.
Aren't these 2 parts in contradiction then?
Who is this guy? The blog has just this single post
Re:Reforming English Spelling on Friday October 23, 2026 @04:21PM (#50214769)
It's basically how Spaniards and Italians would spell English :D
I think that's the case since television went widespread? :) On a more serious note, I was worried that SOMETHING ELSE happened, because what a day yesterday, captain.
Example: an green-haired guy is elected President of Zootopia [1] but not all the State branches are still under his power, but he can force the .zoo registrar to release all their private keys so it can siphon all the encrypted data going back and forth .zoo domains that are used by other State branches, and blackmail them or find out how they are organizing.

[1] yeah I know it's a city in reality

But the Go version is as well old news, actually it was one of the first stories about eMudhra appearing on the HN homepage yesterday.
This is news for NIST but old news generally speaking, being the eMudhra debacle. Or am I missing something?
That's true, but I still think that in a "government goes dictatorial" scenario, where for example there is already a widely usage of up to that moment perfectly safe ccTLD websites and services, they could MITM all of them more easily just going to a single place, and doing it in a manner more difficult to uncover.

Although I'm not sure where a specific domain private keys would be hold in DNS in this case, and that could make my point moot.

Re:Rust off Rails: The opinionated web stack for the AI era on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:51PM (#50184923)
But in this case you still need to spend the tokens, although one could argue that it took some trial and error, with its consequential token spending, to nail the right set of prompts and templates like in this case.
Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @11:16AM (#50182469)
Usually the local petitions for city matters are spread through WhatsApp groups of friends and family of everyone directly involved, so they usually get a lot of signatures from people outside the city (valid more or less for any size of city)
Well, their tagline is: "Your AI models contain risks you can’t control. Until now."

The "why" seems pretty clear :) Thanks for pointing that out.
