Thank you, much appreciated :) Just picked up a couple from AliExpress.
Could you say a little more about how you plan to use BTLE and which units you’re using? I set one of these up last month and it’s generally great, but yeah wifi is a hog. It never occurred to me that something with BTLE would make such a difference.
It’s a great form factor though, isn’t it? Kicked off a bit of an e-ink / esp32 boom for me. I just bought 4 integrated 4-inch displays to complement this 7.5.
Absolutely agree that socialising the losses is egregious. But there’s a reason that “too big to fail” gained so much currency during the GFC (God, doesn’t that feel like an eternity ago?). We’re in the middle of a new Cold War and the (perceived or real, doesn’t matter) strategic implications of just letting these things fall over are politically unpalatable.
Sadly, this is just posturing. When the time comes - and it will - the rest of us will have to do what we always do, and reach into our back pocket.
Ain’t no teat like the gub’mint teat.
Excellent, thank you - that makes much more sense.
Bit surprised to hear that it doesn’t link notes in Obsidian. It seems strange to go to the trouble of implementing a visual graph later on top of a vault but then not even offer an optional setting to have those links create e.g. wikilinks.
I have some excellent news for you: you don’t have to.
That oughta fix it.
“So… what happened to the previous team?”
Only a married man can know the exquisite burning humiliation of breaking a brand new expensive tech toy while showing it off to one’s sceptical wife.
I hope you’re a patient person. My 2017 iPad Pro is still getting security updates.
> Toyota’s current chairman and former CEO, Akio Toyoda, warned in an exclusive interview with Japanese media NHK in July that the company is being forced to adapt, or “it cannot survive,” amid new competition and technology from China.
Finally run out of lobbying options, eh? Good luck with that.
I’ve been playing in this space as a moderately experienced hobbyist - mainly for 3D printing functional parts.
I’m using a single repo for all my models and Claude with build123d (plus a VS Code viz extension). Over time, I’ve built up a little folder of useful skills and I’m generally getting satisfactory results.
That said, I have had my eye on CadQuery and am looking for an excuse to try it. For those in the know: how does it compare to build123d?
Well, I’m not doing this, so if they push ahead and I’m made to do it for whatever reason, they’ll lose at least one $200/month sub.
Surely outfits like Sakana will be looking at a similar strategy. The White House / Anthropic spat supercharged all this.
Doesn’t the claim in the first paragraph only make sense if you assume that content becomes irrelevant as it ages? That holds for news but not for most other media.
I have a huge Steam backlog and a Plex server stocked with (ymmv) many of the finest movies available in the form. There’s so much media there that there’s no realistic path to experiencing it all in my lifetime. That certainly has an impact on my inclination to purchase new games or movies.
I concede that that’s always been the case for durable written works thanks to the local library. But the scale of convenient supply now is staggering.
I find Jump Desktop to be excellent. One time payment. Can connect from iPhone / iPad, too. A noticeable step up from Screen Sharing (which can’t be used from mobile device anyway). Can’t recall it ever failing to connect or flaking out as so many RDP setups seem to.
Thank you, that’s very helpful. Just added it to my homelab.
This looks really good. Would you mind sharing why you decided not to go for Calibre?
Interesting setup. Would you still have chosen a Wiki vs a folder of md files if all agents were using a shared filesystem / compute environment (eg personal computer)? I see Wikis often mentioned as shared state stores and I’m trying to figure out what makes people reach for them.
For me, the calculus is simply: “there’s no way I could do this better than Tailscale”.
Love this framing, thank you.
Hmm not sure about that. It seems like a lot of complicated effort to produce locomotion. I’ll stick with my reliable horse, thanks.
Could you recommend your picks in the space?
Edit (since I can’t seem to reply directly) - to the commenter suggesting LibreOffice below: quite different things. This was a library for implementing reasonably high fidelity docx viewing / editing in the browser.
Oh man, that’s disappointing. We implemented this in a test environment and have been hammering on it. Would love to know what’s going on as it solves a real pain point for us.
Jesus dude, could you edit that to be less explicit please.
Ok, I came into this thread intending to say “I’ve been using stow for years and am perfectly happy with it”, started RTFA and the comments, realised that I was actually not happy with it, started considering chezmoi then remembered that I had had a pretty great experience building a Nix VM recently.
Now I want to use Nix* to manage my multi-machine MacOS and Linux setup (with lots of dotfile config overlap, of course).
That’s the HN experience for you.
Kind souls: what is currently the blessed way to manage MacOS dots with Nix? I recall there is more than one paradigm - what’s the approach that simplest, most robust and can be adopted incrementally?
Edit: Just to say that I think Atuin now also plays in this space. Haven’t checked it out, though.
~Happy iPhone user for almost 20 (!) years. This has got me seriously thinking about picking up a Pixel.
This is going to be tectonic. Any business relying on US models and compute is going to have a busy week.
Installed using the curl-to-bash on Sequoia and I’m getting “error: ReadOnlyFileSystem” on ‘boo new’. Can’t see any open issues on gh and nothing in the readme.
Definitely interested in something like this - love ghostty and I’ve been finding Zellij a bit crashy recently (plus I don’t really need tabs).
Been getting this a couple of times a week for the last month or so.
Yeah absolutely, will do! Looks like we have common interests. I’m in Tokyo though, actually. Rest of the team is in London.
