Re:What it means for an API to be RESTful on Thursday July 30, 2026 @10:32AM (#49110596)
This is exactly the kind of pointless discussion around rest apis
Re:The New AI Superpowers: Focus and Followthrough on Sunday July 26, 2026 @03:01PM (#49061247)
AI as an expensive bandaid
Re:Ask HN: What livestream do you keep open in a tab? on Sunday July 26, 2026 @10:20AM (#49058506)
If I find a nice (YT) video, I download it and play it locally.
If by 50% you mean all juniors/mid-level engineers will not find work, then I agree.
From time to time check a couple of ads in YT. They are full of low quality unrealistic AI generated ads.
Same experience. I’m based in Western Europe.
Re:Ask HN: I feel like I've lost my identity due to AI on Friday July 17, 2026 @05:16AM (#48945053)
I would use that anger to still work for the industry. You still can get a job. Use AI to work minimally and perhaps get another job (part time?) and take advantage of AI as well to work minimally. Earn two paychecks (not big ones, but combined, good enough) and put your passion on side projects. Fuck companies
I think it’s because they are more convenient: CDs are cheap, you own your music. With iPods you save hundreds of dollars per year, and you get to keep your music (and the iPod shuffle is perfect for working out).
Re:Why Write Code in 2026 on Monday July 13, 2026 @05:36AM (#48890077)
Writing changed everything. You barely (if at all) can tell me what humans in the past were thinking without relying on some written artifact.
Re:Why Write Code in 2026 on Monday July 13, 2026 @05:34AM (#48890050)
That’s around 28K EUR/year. I know some junior-mid engineers that earn that (and they are good) in southern Europe.
Re:Interrail: 6,379Km and 13 Countries over 7 weeks on Monday July 13, 2026 @05:14AM (#48889868)
Any estimate on how much would the trip have cost? Just Interrail price
Re:AI 2040 and the cult of intelligence on Saturday July 11, 2026 @03:04PM (#48874766)
Besides the topic of freedom, we know how seemingly “good” companies (e.g., google) turned out to be: billion machine monsters that couldn’t care less about humanity and that have huge amounts of power… and yet, we vouch for Anthropic/openai to become the next giants because “progress”. Face palm.
Re:Tell HN: I De-Googled Myself on Saturday July 11, 2026 @04:39AM (#48870089)
Here a potential “nice” lesson: teach them to leave behind something they like. Now, that takes something (even for adults)
C’mon, don’t be naive!
> Do you mind if I MITM all of your work output, your emails, your code, your messages, and attach my name to it and then receive your paychecks in exchange for my work?

You just described the whole AI industry

Nah. Simple logic: look at Thiel and Musk. Two of the most deplorable human beings out there
Re:Tell HN: I De-Googled Myself on Friday July 10, 2026 @12:39PM (#48862273)
I liked it until the part about paying for yt. I prefer to not use yt again than to pay for it and make google even richer
Since when one learns at school? You go there, listen some guys and then go back home and there the real learning happens: when you sit down, alone, facing a blank paper or a problem you need to solve based on the notes you took while at school.
Doesn’t your bank require an email address? What about your job/employer? Never bought insurance online?

I hate to use emails for private matters too, but can’t avoid it unfortunately

Re:Grok 4.5 on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @02:27PM (#48835508)
But how do they know what day is that? Unless you have already something ready to be announced (and you just hold it until the very last moment, which doesn’t make sense, since you could just announce it asap)
Re:Software Bonkers on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @02:26PM (#48821617)
As impressive as it sounds, I don’t think this is representative of the AI panorama. It’s difficult for non tech people to build tailored software just like that, and unless things change drastically, I don’t see the majority of the population building their own software just like they use mobile phones
