I worked at Apple from ~1995-2002. The status quo described here, where the original bug reporter has to verify and close the bug was a beautiful thing. Nobody saw it as a disincentive to file bugs. It's not "extra work" to confirm that the team you begged to improve software had actually done what you suggested. The alternative, that software teams internally determine that the bug has been "fixed" without understanding nuances of the original report, is much worse. I love Apple's standard that the original bug reporter should be responsible for closing a bug, and I only wish that the privilege extended to third-party bug reports made via Bug Reporter.
Just to clarify F-Script is suitable only for debugging Mac apps. Super Debugger looks really cool for iOS.
Also, F-Script doesn't leverage lldb. The use of lldb in the example here was just that you can use lldb to attach to and load a library (bundle) into an arbitrary app process.
Very cool rundown of the approach to trying to decode this. FWIW there is also a significant archive of information about the format here, including information about the scrambling:

Joel, David has a great problem: he's extremely successful and facing the scrutiny of people who think he should be more perfect than he is.
The answer to this problem is never to tell people to "go away." The job is challenging, as you know. You work your ass off, for years. Finally you get something out there, and if you're lucky, people love it.
That's where the modesty has to kick in. Big time.
When you're even a little bit successful, you learn that customers are not bar chums who you punch in the shoulder and laugh when they say something that offends you. You adopt an unusually elevated posture. "Yes, I see what you mean. I probably could have handled that better."
I know you're good at this Joel, so don't hold your friend to a lower standard.
Thanks for reading my article. The topic rose out of a very specific situation among my circle of Twitter friends and acquaintances. I guess you're lucky if you haven't run into the kind of situations I cited among your own Twitter crowd. I hoped that at least by citing some specific examples, it would give people who aren't familiar with it themselves a sense for what I'm talking about.
I guess by claiming that wasn't basking in my own whining, I should have known it was a setup for somebody to look for cause to claim that I was. I still don't think I was or am, but I take your feedback to heart.
