News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Typical insufferable hn comment.

Besides the fact you clearly skipped 90% of this talk and missed its point entirely… what if the person /didn’t/ know about alternative data streams.

I am excited for the day when you come across something that isn’t obvious to you. I doubt you would ever let others know though.

Which could all have been solved by actually clicking the link.
Re:Inline Scope for CSS on Monday October 14, 2024 @02:42AM (#41834849)
Which is exactly what I, a designer who doesn’t care about css, love about it. I can tweak designs done by our other engineers. It has been world changing.
This seems blown out of proportion. Do you think Mrs Bakewell and her cooking blog set up by her 14yo son are gonna care about this drama?

No. Neither are the larger companies using it for microsites.

If you at all know him you must get him to contact the bbc archival team.
But then they wouldn’t be able to capture as much analytics.

Why not use headscale
Why is this a bad thing?
I know a couple of people close to this. They work alongside a load of CV-Driven-Development offshore Capgemini employees. They had to be mentored by junior members of the team for how to even connect to infrastructure.

Bear in mind a mid grade engineer (low grade in the real world) is a £800-1000/day line item. Capgem tell their employees to lie about their capabilities to get “bums on seats” for public sector contracts. Their own employees are only on 45k-60k for a senior engineer.

So much wastage of public funds.

I do wonder why they chose AWS for this when DDaT is primarily Azure.

How a dishonest scam artist fleeced WD-40 out of $2,750.

What is dead? And why?
Re:How I Use AI (Nicholas Carlini) on Sunday August 04, 2024 @07:28PM (#41157007)
I had a brain haemorrhage so I can not form sentences as well as I could. I nudge my AI to more accurately explain what I mean.

It is strange, I can read okay - by formations of words is challenging.

I am surprised at how many people still use Snapchat. It seems (likely is) generational.

My parents use fb it’s not cool. We use Snapchat.

My parents use snapchat. We use TikTok.

Or is it more instant connections people want, to feel like they are “there”. Perhaps the next thing will be (the name escapes me) where it only is live videos.

Re:Git: The Stupid Password Store on Sunday August 04, 2024 @10:37AM (#41153820)
Not everyone spends their days head buried in emacs only vm on their deblobbed gentoo hypervisor. An overwhelming amount of developers just want to “get on with it” and would see using ssh as unnecessary friction. There is a reason github’s ui defaults to clone over ssh which is missed by you.
