Re:Drupal's Golden Handcuffs on Wednesday October 03, 2012 @07:46AM (#4606896)
The beauty of open source is that we have the ability to learn from the experiences of others. Many of the challenges expressed in these conversations are being met head on by the Drupal community. I disagree with many sentiments of the OP but also practice integrating different technologies, when appropriate, to get a job done ... The feedback in this thread is invaluable and highly appreciated.

There are technical solutions in the form of modules and organizational workflow solutions that can be used to solve most of the issues I see mentioned here. There are also a lot of false or mis-informed assertions. Thanks for the insight.

Someone needs a patent on patents to stop this insanity.
Re:Leaked: Police Plan to Raid The Pirate Bay on Friday March 09, 2012 @08:19AM (#3683928)
It's kind of like how they started a country to escape taxes and then gave themselves the power to arrest and imprison those that don't pay taxes ... everyone knows how wrong what is happening is and how much it makes them look like morons to normal people ... but they have deeper pockets and patient lawyers/politicians in those pockets that will span generations if necessary until they get their way. They try a big step, and when it doesn't work, they step back and break it up into smaller steps that get them to the eventual goal. It's obvious their lobbying power is something that defies logic because we were taught how things are "supposed" to work in school. I'm curious how heartfelt blasting (totally justified btw) of these larger organizations accomplishes anything. A moment of rage doesn't stop a river. I'm not sure what does.
Re:How Facebook pushes updates to the site on Sunday May 29, 2011 @08:25AM (#2596512)
You have to remember that facebook is a compiled binary (hiphop). They entered the release cycle they did vs true Continuous Integration because original compilation times for this binary were extreme. Pretty sure Chuck mentioned something in the range of 1gb binary. They've corrected the amount of time it takes to compile and can push within 15 minutes of a trunk merge, but it's stil not on the scale of a few lines here, a few lines there.
Re:MongoDB gotchas for the unaware user on Thursday December 23, 2010 @08:45AM (#2034350)
First error of this user is trying to run mongodb on a single node instance. One note about his paragraph regarding replication ... just make sure to not use the autoresync flag if that's your data recovery plan or you'll simply replicate bad data to the slaves. If your really serious about the data, cycle a couple slaves down every X minutes so that they completely write to disk so that you can perform proper backups then have them come back up and resync.

Here's a rewrite of the article: Don't use monogdb unless you know what your doing and have the hardware to do it right.

Drupal wouldn't be where it is today without webchick and it's community. She deserves recognition for her hard work with Drupal 7 and it's nice to see this community agrees.
