Yes, but also because those names were originally Greek.

Are you willing to share that? I didn't have the space at the time to download the entirety of Wikipedia (though I think I have an old copy of Wikipedia sans images floating around somewhere).
There have been a few. Here's one I found right away: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28595967
Yep, we can go back years to find sites like this. Here's one from 2021[1] and I swear I saw another site like this earlier this year.

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:43PM (#50293049)
They came to get free help and couldn't even bother to put a little effort into their questions. What do they expect?
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:31PM (#50292843)
You do not get points for closing questions, and you get negative points for downvoting. Where did that lie come from?
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:53AM (#50290103)
It worked fine earlier this week, but I guess that's that for Reddit. It had been a (not so) good run.

I'm a mod on two SE sites. It definitely happens. And yes, (imo) they typically need help.
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:02PM (#50283682)
I think it's pretty clear that was the cause of the 2020 spike and fall. Once people started going back to work (summer 2020 for us), questions dropped back to pre-2020 levels.

There's Old Reddit Redirect extension in Firefox, but honestly, you're not missing out on anything there anyway.

I think you're forgetting of a certain major event that happened in 2020. An event that initially caused a lot of free time around the world and kept people indoors...
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:36PM (#50283438)
I think Reddit is even worse. You could get banned from SO for using pretty foul insults, but in some places of Reddit, it's business as usual.
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:35PM (#50283430)
But SO was never a place to just talk to others. It's not a general purpose discussion site. It could have been a friendly place, but users still would have left, because it's just far easier to get an immediate answer from AI, and those answers have only been getting better.

Yeah, the place could be very hostile, but that hostility didn't crater questions before ChatGPT was released.

The fact that all this stuff is easily accessible online and yet some people think they can just out-logic the law is mind-boggling to me. Oh, you never studied law in your life but you're criticizing a 60-year old law that has been hashed out over and over again? Dunning-Kruger strikes again.
Because if neither side budges, it goes to court to figure out what's reasonable, like with any other dispute. This is pretty basic stuff.
You're missing a major component of the law:

> Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for an applicant or employee whose sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance conflicts with a work requirement, *unless providing the accommodation would create an undue hardship for the employer.*

If using a computer is necessary for the job, then the religious exemption would create undue hardship. Presumably for this Kentucky guy's job he can get his work done without AI and the university isn't suffering for it.

Oh, look, another drive-by throwaway profile that doesn't add anything meaningful to the conversation and just pisses on those who call out sloppy AI writing.
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:34AM (#50228362)
I just have it constantly update real-world analogues for keeping track of everything. I have it create guides, note cards, flowcharts, running to-do lists, etc. with every change.

It helps us keep track of things, why not AI, too?

Re:The Kevin Bacon on Saturday October 24, 2026 @12:47PM (#50222980)
Equally, just because someone is lower on the A-list than actor B doesn't mean that B is off the A-list...
Re:The Kevin Bacon on Saturday October 24, 2026 @11:15AM (#50222083)
Couldn't you say the same about Nick Cage? Granted, Cage's iceberg is quite a bit bigger than Bacon's.
Re:The Kevin Bacon on Saturday October 24, 2026 @11:10AM (#50222022)
I'll concede he's not at the same level as George Clooney, but as the lead in Footloose and co-leads/part of ensemble leads in Wild Things, Flatliners, The River Wild, and Hollow Man, I would have thought that put him above someone like Bill Pullman, who I think of as a B-list actor. But you don't always have to be the lead to be an A-lister. Just look at Gary Oldman.
Re:The Kevin Bacon on Saturday October 24, 2026 @12:15AM (#50218329)
Kevin Bacon is objectively an A-list actor.
Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:46PM (#50211864)
But that only raises the question: what bore PHP? A bit of a C(hicken) and an egg situation.
You're not wrong. These load-bearing air molecules are not too energized; they are quite tranquil―and the wavelengths emitted off plants' photosynthesis organs are equally pleasing.

Dude created his account 30 minutes ago. He's just a cowardly troll, probably paid by Twitter.
Re:Shitter – A Nitter Fork on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:07AM (#50210321)
You forget that Twitter is just a joke.
No one reads the article anymore. They're just vibe commenting.
Re:The compiler was supposed to end programming too on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:23PM (#50186160)
I'm not sure you're even reading the comments to which you're replying.
If someone thinks they can profit off of or otherwise control the Torment Nexus, they will build it as fast as they can.
