Re:Bastion now available in Chrome Web Store on Friday December 09, 2011 @10:44AM (#3334080)
I know NetHack[1] has been available for a while. It would be safe to assume that there are others.

The data is pretty big (there are a lot of farmers' markets).
Re:Tell HN: Khan Academy is hiring full-time devs on Tuesday April 05, 2011 @09:00PM (#2413474)
I was going to ask the same question about interns (Saw a posting a few months ago about internships there). I sent my resume over.
Re:Ask HN: Los Angeles to San Fran, where to visit? on Sunday December 26, 2010 @01:51AM (#2040205)
I second Hearst Castle. Goes well when paired with Citizen Kane.

Also, Monterey is cool. Can also be paired with Cannery Row by Steinbeck.

Re:Major (unfixable) flaw found in P!=NP paper. on Tuesday August 10, 2010 @02:29PM (#1592476)
He posted something saying that it wasn't meant to be released yet. He had sent it to some experts on August 6th and it made its way into the wild on August 8th. He posted what he said was an "updated" draft. It was there this morning but is no longer.

Re:Five ways to save Condé Nast's Reddit on Monday July 12, 2010 @05:25PM (#1509489)
I think reddit users would be hesitant to allow their beloved website to start selling data about them. One of the things that drives reddit is the anonymity, why would they want to give that up?

Also, I don't think the author understands the extent to which reddit ads are targeted. Most redittors I know have it whitelisted on adblock and actively click ads because they find them intriguing.

Re:Ask HN: Recommendation for (re)learning Math Skills on Monday June 21, 2010 @04:30PM (#1449980)
I applaud you for teaching your daughter trig. Nobody has ever "taught" me trig and I have to constantly (re)look up identities and such.
Re:Quick bit about Gruber and Doctorow on Friday April 02, 2010 @11:50PM (#1238130)
"If you must have an iPad, then buy (and use) something open to balance things out." -- This doesn't really solve the problem of Apple eating our seed corn.
Re:The Real Cause of Obesity: It's not gluttony. It's genetics. on Friday September 11, 2009 @10:16AM (#817376)
Well, even if you can, eating like garbage will probably catch up with you eventually.
Re:Why boycotting Whole Foods is Stupid on Tuesday August 25, 2009 @03:46PM (#785600)
Voltaire never actually said that. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_misquotations)
My point was more that the article itself gave absolutely no evidence besides pointing out that a thing was happening and that there is a website called 4chan that does things like this.

I personally do not browse 4chan but the evidence in that article was kind of shaky.

The evidence of 4chan's involvement here is kind of shaky.
Re:Stanford, Duke, Rice, … and Gates? on Tuesday August 18, 2009 @12:34PM (#770812)
My high school was one funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and we tried to limit tracking as much as possible. For the first two years, there is absolutely no tracking. The idea is that the faster learners will help their slower peers who benefit from more interaction with their friends. Anecdotally, it seemed to work rather well but required students to initially be motivated to learn. My school never really had a problem with that because students applied to the school and could opt out of the application process without their parents knowing.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is already working on making better high schools.

Re:Web citizens trying to kill Internet Explorer 6 on Thursday August 06, 2009 @04:49PM (#746364)
I (an intern) been discussing this with my boss as this movement has been growing for the past few weeks. I cam back from lunch today to an email from him with this article linked. Pleasant surprise.
Re:Weak U.S. 5-year debt auction raises worries on Wednesday July 29, 2009 @11:48PM (#731658)
What we should really be doing is getting the financial firms to buy them like they used to but the yield is much too low. In January 2000, for example, the 5 year yield was around 6.5% (http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/domestic-finance/debt-managem...). The rates have been cut and the yield is a little over a third of that. No wonder nobody wants them.
Re:Bernie Madoff's First Prison Interview on Wednesday July 29, 2009 @10:20AM (#730012)
By that logic, any insurance would be a pyramid scheme.
