Young Earth Creationists are going to have a field day with this.
Re:U.S. National Debt Soars to a Record $22T on Tuesday February 12, 2019 @06:07PM (#19148629)
Not sure if sarcastic or very much part of the problem. I do hope it is the former.
I'm very excited to see how these will perform in folding@home and similar projects, where Nvidia historically has been very dominant.
First TensorFlow, then Baidu's Warp-CTC, and now Microsofts CNTK. It is a very, very exciting time for open source machine learning indeed.

The V8 team recently announced that they will be implementing WASM. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/v8-users/PInzACvS5I4
When I was in high school (2005-ish), Yahoo mails were everywhere, most of my friends used AIM, etc. I haven't used either for long now, but it's sad to see the company dying all the same.
Re:How to C in 2016 on Friday January 08, 2016 @07:16AM (#10864324)
"The first rule of C is don't write C if you can avoid it."

This ought to carved into the walls of R&D departments everywhere.

"Sitting is the new smoking"
Shhhhh...you will scare away the clicks, and heaven knows we need clicks!!

Getting a white page on Chrome 46, Fedora box.
Base income does not come out of nothing though. You need state income, which depends on taxation, which depends on people working and consuming.
> High fat diets are not proven to be detrimental to your health,

Do you believe this yourself?

Also, not to nitpick, but science does not "prove", it establishes plausible models for observed facts. There is no end to studies linking poor diet to poor health.

Re:Why improving kernel security is important on Tuesday November 10, 2015 @05:32AM (#10538539)
"The number of people using Linux systems is increasing every day, and many of these users depend on the security of these systems in critical ways. It's vital that we do what we can to avoid their trust being misplaced."

This, a thousand times over. Security and privacy concerns are ultimately among the make-or-break points of any major platform, and Linux needs to pass this with flying colors, especially as it grows ever closer to the ordinary user who is finally considering replacing Windows.

That moment a HN reference to your site causes a full scale DDoS takedown.

"Prima donna"??? Did you even read the guys responses? They are as calm and collected as anything.
Re:Germany is turning on its monster stellarator on Monday November 02, 2015 @06:02AM (#10491153)
This is one of the greatest events in the history of energy research. Really, really hoping that the upcoming results of the machine will at least meet expectations.
Re:People in Sweden are hiding cash in their microwaves on Sunday November 01, 2015 @02:31PM (#10487765)
Swede here. It is always fascinating to read this kind of rabid BS about the very country you live and operate in - it is as if a completely different society is being described. Whatever brings the clicks, I guess.

This kind of brings me back to Fox News reporting cataclysmic imagery about cars being burnt in my city (Gothenburg) some time back. External "perspectives" are comedic gold, indeed.

Re:Node.js 5.0 Released on Friday October 30, 2015 @11:19AM (#10478339)
There were 6 years between ES 5 and 6, and it will most likely be another 1-2 years before we have complete, well tested ES6 coverage across all major browsers. ES6 is fully backwards-compatible with ES5 anyway, so it's not even a Python-kind of language evolution.
Re:Node.js 5.0 Released on Friday October 30, 2015 @11:15AM (#10478307)
In the case of Babel - performance. Even with all the fantastic work that has been done on it so far, good luck avoiding massive transpile times for non-trivial ES6 code bases. I imagine TypeScripts (and other) transpilers have the same issue.
Re:Resigning from the Haskell Platform on Tuesday October 13, 2015 @04:12AM (#10379108)
Judging from how shallow your reasoning appears to be, it is way over your head indeed.
Re:Facebook shuts down swedish pro kurdish page on Saturday August 01, 2015 @08:45AM (#9986836)
I suspect this is due to the algorithms handling reports - not an actual human action. Atheist Republic - a massive community for atheists and skeptics on FB - was also taken down after being report-bombed by malicious users, this despite the fact that it was not in serious violation of any FB rules.

So I was reading this, and the only things that kept repeating in my mind were "Ionic, Crosswalk, Webworkers, Ionic, Crosswalk, Webworkers..."

(Yes I know Crosswalk is Android only, but it works wonders).

Re:JavaScript best practices on Sunday July 05, 2015 @02:54AM (#9832770)
This is to be expected from a field which is traditionally male-dominated. Personally I don't think gender matters at all - it is great to want to give exposure to minorities, but people should be valued for their skill, not genitalia.

Not sure why hoisting is listed under "the good parts"
Re:From Asm.js to WebAssembly on Wednesday June 17, 2015 @07:15PM (#9735875)
Like it or not, the web needs a way to protect business logic, no matter how imperfect it may be. Besides, uglification has already rendered most deployed sites unreadable anyway - no serious business that I know of will deploy non-minified code.
Re:Spotify has been doomed from the start on Sunday June 14, 2015 @08:16AM (#9714616)
"Continue to lose"

Really.

"Indeed this is what is happening right now with EU anti-trusting"

No. Read up on what anti-trust laws are. The US has them too.

"Additionally, like the Chinese, Europeans are getting increasingly weary of reliance of US made hardware"

The NSA tinkering with certain US-made hardware is not really helping sales.
