Re:A sustainable web career, for when all this blows over on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @04:43PM (#49983812)
i so desperately want this to be true

i've held on hope for a year, but can no longer

we're a non-unionized industry up against very powerful people who want to deskill the field

i want hope, if you have any send my way.. unfortunately things are not looking good

Re:What Happens When the Cost of Intelligence Drops 100x on Friday August 21, 2026 @12:56PM (#49390854)
these things you are talking about are only true due to the unbelievably LARGE marketing ~propaganda~ spending

what you're saying reflects corporation tendencies

take away the propaganda, let people live, see how they react

Re:The Amazon Tax on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @09:02PM (#49355207)
> The same logic applies to other platforms - like subway platforms or television or even restaurant menus.

this is really bad comparison

a subway platform ad doesn't dictate the way consumers use the subway.

a restaurant does not monitor the effectiveness of the ads in their menus, analyse their industry and rip off their product with an in-house brand (amazon basics)

amazon is not a marketplace, it is a surveillance platform built to allow amazon to take ownership of more and more markets

to say this is just a problem with ads is defeatist instead getting real tangible change

honestly if you go vanilla just go vanilla, don't imitate the vdom but worse

use query selectors and manually do fine grained updates

i don't think it works for everything, but a few years back i started doing it for side projects and never really missed any of the frameworks

its a trade off for sure

but my experience working with elm is that things just work almost always the first time

if they can bring that over, many will take that trade off

yes somethings are harder to express, but its subjective if its a bad thing given the correctness guarantees

i haven't firmly run into the perf ceiling myself, but yes it is obviously there for more interactive apps

Re:Clojure: Transducers on Thursday April 23, 2026 @01:20PM (#47878481)
i see

so it's more than all tranducable types implement a common interface?

or the tranduceable operators depend on a small subset of generic functions?

Re:Clojure: Transducers on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @11:26PM (#47858554)
js iterators work over lazy streams
Re:Clojure: Transducers on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @03:22PM (#47853304)
Is there a gain of clojure transducers to js style iterators? - https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Refe...

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Refe...

both solve the copying problem, and not relying on concrete types

very cool! does this work? can you describe the kinds of real bugs you've caught with this?
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2026) on Monday March 09, 2026 @12:48PM (#47311560)
I got a few ideas which will probably never get done at this point

1 - actual css static analysis -- consume html + css, and provide tooling to preview what properties are inherited given the context you're in -- what you're overwriting, what display mode you're in. If there's inconsistent display modes depending on where in the html you are.

2 - a reactive html scripting language which using html as the source of truth, and synchronizes html elements through their relationships to each other

i only have prototypes, and unfortunately given the climate i feel i am the only person who wants these tools.. but every few weeks i get to sit down and get some progress and that's nice

I don't dig in reddit frequently so that specific issue is not one for me

Re:Browse Code by Meaning on Tuesday February 17, 2026 @11:49AM (#47049575)
This seems like a really great use of LLMs

Especially with local models, I would use this!

Re:Use protocols, not services on Monday February 16, 2026 @02:53PM (#47039459)

Re:Parse, Don't Validate (2019) on Tuesday February 10, 2026 @11:43AM (#46962558)
This is an idea that is not ON or OFF

You can get ever so gradually stricter with your types which means that the operations you perform on on a narrow type is even more solid

It is also 100% possible to do in dynamic languages, it's a cultural thing

when will developers learn UI actually matters
