I would be interested to hear your take on Copilot vs Claude. I have used Copilot (trial) in VS Code and I found it to mostly meet my needs. It could generate some plans and code, which I could review on the go. I found this very natural to me as I never felt 'left behind' in whatever code the AI was generating. However, most of the posts I see here are on Claude (I haven't tried it) and very few mentions of Copilot. What is your impression about them and the use cases each is strong in?

Fair point on survivorship bias. But, I think SD card being flash memory is technically expected to fail over time, with that failure compounded by the number of write cycles. These cycles are a spec of the SD card. If a section/page of the flash is being overwritten more frequently than the other, then surely it'll fail faster than an SD card whose erase/write cycles are distributed uniformly across all the sections/pages.

Since January of this year, I have been waiting for a certain MCU (STM32F042K6T6) to be available but still no luck. I get the bigger picture now: there's a shortage at the source. I have to move fast and secure a stock of the rest of the ICs, otherwise this supply-chain issue can be disastrous to small hardware companies.

The automatic doors might be the quiet heroes here. Given that hands have proved to be among the predominant avenues for the virus spread, I have been keen to monitor where my hands are put into use here in Japan. The only door knobs I have to turn on a normal day routine are my apartment and office doors. Any other place: from convenient stores, ATMs to buildings, automatic doors are quietly but effectively protecting the masses

As someone outside of the US, news about people of the City of Corona queuing to buy guns was quite shocking. Things are difficult everywhere but a rush to buy guns, not least in the most powerful country, is probably one of the most shocking of all the responses I have read and seen so far. I hope none of those guns will need to be used. The virus is already enough of an enemy

Half of a Yellow Sun[1] by Chimamanda Ngozi.
If you want to sample probably a different style and culture, I would highly recommend this book. This is a 2006 novel by a prolific African writer and is set in the late 1960s Biafran times in Nigeria. There is a lot in it and is richly written.

Being from a developing nation, we had been fed a certain narrative about the US. It was the epitome of all the virtues humanity could conceive. Circa 2010 the advent and prevalence of cheap smartphones and social media across the globe (including third world countries), turned a new leaf on access to information from the hitherto filtered mainstream media. This removed the veil on the actual social, political and economic life in the US (in the eyes of my contemporaries and I). The 2016 elections and the circus it has been since then, tossed away the veil altogether. In the last 4 years, with utmost respect, I do attest the US has lost something at the global stage: at least its charm and probably much more.

Claiming a serial interface task will equip you with 90% of Embedded Systems is the biggest disrespect of a profession I've ever encountered. To outsiders, the field might be regarded to be just a microcontroller playground. But the spectrum of hardware design and programming in the field is at an unprecedented levels. PCB design, power supply, SoCs, SBCs, FPGAs, peripheral interfaces, Embedded C and Linux software development...to mention but a few; are some of the skills a modern embedded system engineer needs at the lower level.

Re:The Most Gender-Switched Names in the U.S.

Kenyatta: Interesting name whose origin (by Wikipedia) is skewed. It mentions individuals born in 21st century and completely ignores the 1st person to literally hold that name: Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta, born in early 1890's. It wasn't a traditional African name, but he bestowed it upon himself in his early 20's. Among the Maasai community, it referred to a traditional belt and Jomo, whilst living amongst the Maasai always had such a belt. The name fascinated him and he adopted it, altering the spelling to include 'Kenya' since he'd political ambitions

I'm just curious how such cases are proven in a court of law. The consent in such intimate situations is generally verbal;so if party A claims there was consent but the other party says there was no consent, I think that's a dead end for the prosecutors
