The comparisons of speed and memory usage only make sense if there's feature parity.
Re:Outrage after airport self-service checkout asks for 18% tip on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:55PM (#50282624)
Where's LaGuardia on that list? What's wrong with O'Hare?
Re:Somebody please stop the spam texts on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:26PM (#50251226)
My father once accidentally auto-completed my phone number when he donated to a democrat. This led to over a decade of messages addressed to him from candidates from his state. Everyone time you ask to be removed, they remove it from their own list, not the list from which they cloned. I had to call so many people to find the office responsible for holding the canonical list of numbers which everyone was cloning. After talking with a few people there over multiple years, I finally got to someone that cared enough to remove me and not just hang up the phone. Political calls and texts are treated special under the law and aren't subject to most of the protections that the USA has over this sort of thing.

If you're going to donate to a political party or politician, do it anonymously.

The link to the github works. Everything else opens google play store page for twitter for me.
To win, the cause needs to be a broken law or contract. Neither are here.
Anyone can sue anyone else for any reason. We should encourage honesty and transparency, not discourage it.
Re:Show HN: UI micro interactions prompts for AI on Thursday October 22, 2026 @03:48PM (#50200115)
Some feedback on the first few

* toggle animation on the heart moves the same direction for add and subtract (confusing)

* hold-to-trigger indicator is covered by finger on touch screen

* remove button confirmation can be accidentally confirmed by double click

(I stopped looking after this)

The GPUs used in data centers cant really be used outside the same context. They cant connect to standard PCs or servers. They are highly specialized. The resale would need to be at the server or rack level for the same use case.
Re:Apple: Switch to Safari (From Chrome) on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:18PM (#50092364)
This seems like a misuse of favicons. Is there spec for changing the icon that way? Are the icons you expect to change being served with headers that allow caching? Are there more appropriate APIs that could be used like notification API?
Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @01:07PM (#50091050)
It's hard for my eyes to look away from that liquid glass toolbar train wreck to even see the ad.
Re:How Protein Took over the World on Saturday October 10, 2026 @02:01PM (#50035445)
Except in China where it's very hard to find protien supplements or lean meat. I visited two years ago and really struggled.
Re:A 100x faster* alternative to homebrew on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:35PM (#50009018)
Where did the 100x claim come from? The first sentence on the linked page says up to 6.6x faster.
Re:All I wanted was a custom domain email on Sunday October 04, 2026 @06:48PM (#49958729)
The problem with self hosting is getting through google, microsoft, etc spam filters.
Allow-listed would be a more accurate and more inclusive term.
Re:Fuck Android Developer Verification Program on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:19AM (#49918721)
That's illegal. No private right of action though. Gotta go through your ISP or FTC, assuming you're in the USA.

An active student means you're enrolled. It has implications, student discounts for example.

Re:A brief history of Windows scroll bar shortcuts on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @03:03PM (#49820905)
What do you mean? In my experience and according to the article, it scrolls pages at a time when you left click on the gutter.
Re:Ask HN: Is it impossible to disable Siri on macOS 27? on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:52PM (#49789846)
This sounds similar to Microsoft and the start menu. A few years ago I went to extreme lengths to disable cortana (powershell guid uninstall). This invisibly and inexplicably disabled updates to the start menu search feature. The index remained the feature worked, it just never got updated again. No amount of manually reindexing the disk helped. Reinstalling cortana got it working.
Re:Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one on Sunday September 06, 2026 @11:25PM (#49593537)
I really like Finder. It's consistent, reliable, accessible, and predictable. There are easy ways to see the real file system and windows certainly doesn't do any better in this regard (see: libraries and other namespaces).
Re:Your "File" Menu Isn't About Files on Monday August 24, 2026 @07:29PM (#49427226)
Nearly every example in the original post just gives more specific names to the type of files the application works on, including applications that are extremely file-centric like QuickTime Player and Word. One of the best counter examples in the OP is Claude, but that's only because, for whatever reason, Claude doesn't have an export, import, or attach option, probably because it's just an Electron app.
Re:Your "File" Menu Isn't About Files on Monday August 24, 2026 @05:30PM (#49426101)
Check the HIG. It says to use 'File'. I'm sure the goal here is consistency. It's a Human Computer Interaction (HCI) fundamental principle.

Re:Yes/No/Cancel causes Aspirin sales to soar (2007) on Friday August 21, 2026 @02:11PM (#49391878)
This is largely the consequence of the Windows API having a built in option to use these buttons, without having an option for custom text. It would be a lot more work to build a custom window with custom buttons than just callong this API.

Re:Grindr CEO Says AI Is Doing the Work of 200 Engineers on Saturday August 08, 2026 @09:00PM (#49227372)
Especially considering the quality of the app and how long bugs last.
Re:Quake – 30th Anniversary Update on Thursday August 06, 2026 @04:57PM (#49202442)
This was very common at the time. I suspect there was a technical reason, maybe freeing up the CPU and memory from dealing with music and offloading that to the CDROM drive.
I thought the pitch for just-cameras was that the hardware was cheaper and that it's what humans are "using", evidence that it should be sufficient. Just-cameras was to take more engineering to build upnfront but pay off in lower costs in the end. That argument disagrees with the graph that's presented.
Re:Most tech revolutions made work worse for employees on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @05:44PM (#49175625)
Yet people still have to work the same number of hours each day - they are performing the same amount of labor, just in a different form.
Did they not look up the PC manufacturer or model number to verify this hypothesis?
Re:Apple's hostile App Store rating system on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @03:38PM (#49102005)
There are many people in the HN comments supporting the decision to rate apps with one star when said apps solicit ratings. You posted a screenshot of another person agreeing with this perspective, and I'm yet another.
Re:Apple's hostile App Store rating system on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @12:25PM (#49099563)
Baseless? You posted all the evidence people need in the form of a screenshot and acknowledgement. People hate the nagging and support the only recourse they have to stop it.
